This used to be one of the better places in Tacoma, but now it is a place that lives off its past glory. The food was mediocre (at best). Seems like they used frozen foods for expediency. Other foods, like my steak were under seasoned and while I ordered it medium rare, there was no red or pink in the middle. Overall food quality has dramatically declined.
Service was subpar. Our waiter checked in on us once, but only after 10 minutes after our entrees arrived. He seemed more interested in chit chatting with some tables versus doing his job. Bottom line is the server should find another line of work. He sucked...and I mean that in the nicest way.
Overall this was a truly disappointing experience. I have been to this restaurant probably 25 times in my lifetime. Tonight was my last. There are so many other places to eat. Avoid this place like the plague.
Unfortunately there was nothing here (open table) indicating that it was buffet only on that day and my partner and I have both had bariatric surgery. Since we could not order off the menu and we eat a mouses portion between us, we had to leave. Sad because it smelled really good.
We went to this restaurant for dinner on Mother's Day. The only thing that I had an issue with is at OpenTable did not mention that the restaurant was Buffet only because of the special occasion. We could not order off of the regular menu. This wasn't too much of an issue as there are many options in the buffet and the food was good. The buffet was a little more expensive than ordering off of the regular menu. I typically would not spend that much money for my children's dinner, as it was roughly $40 a piece.
We were seated immediately after we arrived. We even got a window seat with the last minute reservation. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will eat there again the future.
Went for Mother's day brunch the only bad thing I have to say is my mom's favorite dish is salmon lox with cream cheese, bagels and capers but they ran out of capers. The waitress was nice to try and scrape together 10 little capers for her. :/ Other than that the food was really good and we sat outside on the beautiful day!
What a letdown. This place used to be in the top 10 brunch spots in the area, that is no longer the case. The food wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t at all good. Bland, under-seasoned, mediocre, undercooked. That’s what our meal was like. Everything tastes the same, there is no flavor to any of the dishes. Crepes taste of old oil and burnt liquor. The “eggs Benedict” is just a piece of stale English muffin with an over-cooked egg and shredded cheese on top. The prime rib was scary, raw (no, not rare... it was raw) and gross. There was no quality, no “fine dining” and definitely no reason to ever come back. What a joke. Go check out the brunch at Salty’s instead. That’s what quality food looks and tastes like.
I have been dining here for 19 years and have seen the quality of the food offered and the selection at the Sunday brunch decline rapidly. I will not be returning but will spend my money elsewhere.
Service was great. Brunch food quality was not good.
It has been nearly 20 years since my last visit to CiS. My wife had never been, so I brought her and our 2 children. The food was excellent; our server was great and the atmosphere was fabulous. The hostess/hostesses were the only part that was not 5-star. I made reservations for 10am and arrived at 945am to check in. After standing in front of the host station waiting to be noticed, a young brunette finally stated "hello, can I help you? I told her my name and waited as she looked at the screen for my name. I think she assumed the other hostess was going to speak to me, I was still waiting for a response. The brunette finally says in a quiet voice, "ok, we will seat you closer to your time..."
"Yes, we will be seating you in just a moment' would do.
I ordered the crab and shrimp stuffed sole, and I was disappointed. The non-existent crab and shrimp that was to be in the sole was without taste, had it not been for the peppers they stuffed in there as well. I can't stress enough how the spicy thing that restaurants have going on now is too much. Fish dishes should not be spicy, I'm sorry! Please stop over-spicing my food!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good food at a reasonable price. Quiet ambiance with great view of the South Sound. Great service.
Food was superb and loved the appetizer and dinners, but service was very slow. Had the best table in the house at a window above the other tables. After twenty minutes, asked for a server and she came to explain she was busy cleaning a large table. Understandable, but once we placed our order waited over 30 minutes to get any food, even an appetizer. There was only one other table in the entire restaurant as it was an 8:15 reservation. Food good service slow, so advice would be don't go when in a hurry. We were not, so fine.
Dined here for my sons Birthday! And we had a wonderful time! Made reservations and got the seating requested..the staff were a pleasure and hospitable. Food was delicious as always..my sons loved it and cant wait to partic in the lunch buffet!
Great food as always and pleasant ambience
Food was good. Service not so much. Which was surprising since we were an early dinner and the place was virtually empty. Just had to ask for too many things, service staff forgetting to fulfill something they said they would do, etc. Just not great service which for a nice restaurant was unexpected.
Was seated on time, nice hostess and waiter.
We had the weekend brunch and it was excellent! A wide variety of tasty items. Besides eggs and sausage there was prime rib, ham and turkey at the carving station. Omelet and crepe station made to order.
The value for what was offered was very nice. I’m surprised the price was so low.
Food was okay. Service was atrocious. Complete neglect from wait staff.
Great food and excellent service as usual. Beautiful views of the water and mountains.
Guard Your Table
We partook of a grand Sunday brunch. The buffet spread was very impressive and tasty, especially the seafood options.
However, the staff is quite aggressive in clearing off your table.
So I suggest that you only go to the buffet (or restroom) in shifts leaving someone to guard your table or everything is likely to disappear while you are collecting your next round of goodies.
This happened to us twice during our visit and definitely made our experience less pleasant.
The second time it happened staff completely cleared our table of everything even though we hadn't even started to enjoy the desserts we had collected.
French toast was a bit under cooked today. It is one of my favorite things to get and was not that today.
I didnt like the service. No one was tracking my anniversry.
It was Tacoma restaurant week so good food for cheap is always great. I’ve eaten here before and it never disappoints
The waiter was very good, but the beef entrees were more medium than medium rare and when I told the waiter my filet was over cooked he had to take it to the manager or the chef to prove it before they would cook me another one. Also, one of our party ordered coconut shrimp and it was over cooked and the accompanying rice was dry. Overall, we had a good time due to a great waiter and the people we were celebrating with, but I felt the prices were high and the food did not meet the expectations.
The wedge salad was excellent and the stuffed mushrooms were great.
The food was fine, but they were out of the artichokes, which is why I selected Shenanigans. Also, my stomach hurt in the middle of the night, so something did not agree with me.
Enjoyed lunch with my spouse during Tacoma Restaurant Week for $15 per person. We both had clam chowder for appetizer, fish and chips for entre and tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert, respectively. Food was good and large portions for entrée (two large fillets of fish with plenty of French Fries). Scenic view of the waterfront. Not that it was a major negative, but the young waiter only stated a few words to us during our entire lunch. And quietly, too. Could have been even more enjoyable with some casual conversations about the day, lunch specials or recommendations. Won't prevent us from returning someday but he's not a good waiter.
Your three course luncheon was more than adequate food wise , very reasonable and enjoyable. our server had many tables assigned to her so we had to wait for service at times. over all the time spent was very good.
Great Sunday Brunch with an amazing variety of dishes. Friendly staff, great food with an wonderful view.
we always go for Sunday brunch but the quality is a hit & miss.
The food and service was very good. The only negative thing is that the food came out much too fast. We had not finished our salads and when I said something to the server who brought the food, he asked if I wanted him to put it back under the light. For me that was not an option.
The best is the incredible location!
It was a Birthday celebration for my husband. Mentioned it to the hostess and also put it in the reservation. No one acknowledged it and requested a window table. Saw a few available when they seated us, not at a window . Nothing special about this restaurant.
Always enjoy the coziness of this restaurant. The Easter buffet was THE BEST !
We went there for a birthday celebration. Service was tremendous, cocktails were superb and the atmosphere was terrific. The food was out of this world. We will definitely go back.
Excellent Sunday brunch with lots to choose from.
When I made reservations, I didn't realize they only had brunch, but we definitely enjoyed it.
Excellent service and ambiance. We've been there for many occasions from birthday celebrations to date night. We especially enjoy the brunch on Sunday! Good crab legs, salmon, shrimp, crepes, eggs Benedict! My only disappointment was that I do not see any cooked vegetable entrees except for the breakfast potatoes. Some cooked broccoli, or asparagus or green beans would be great with the Roast beef or Ham. A senior discount was not automatically given nor asked about but the server gladly obliged. I love the views, seating and great cocktails available a reasonable prices.
Sunday Brunch was great! Had an 11:30 reservation for 7, got there 15 minutes early and they seated us right away! They don't give you much to go on menu wise on their website, but everything that was offered was top notch. Especially the cold shrimp and Dungeness crab legs! All the seafood( clams, and oysters too!) was fresh and they were constantly bringing out more chaffing dishes to replenish the options. The something sweet table was well stocked with the pecan roll with caramel sauce being the standout. Also the $3 mimosas were tasty, boozy and a great deal, with our server coming back to ask if we needed a refill or anything else very frequently. We had out of state relatives visiting and this reservation didn't disappoint, I requested a window table and we actually got one! That never happens, you could put down that you were dining with the Pope at some places and they would still stick you by the kitchen. Great value and come hungry!
Restaurant was suggested by a friend. Very pleasant experience, food was delicious and very well prepared and presented by the servers. Omelet maker was efficient and suggested additives which would enhance the item; crepes very well prepared. The only item that I feel could be improved was the deviled eggs which had no flavor but whomever piped the filling did very well.
Prime rib was very well prepared and the seafood was delicious. Overall it was a great brunch experience. I will return and recommend to others
I don't want it to seem like I don't like CI Shennigan's. I have been going to brunch here for probably 20 years. I do think the quality and the variety of food offered has diminished greatly while the price goes up in the past 5 years. I would love them to elevate themselves to the quality they used to be. We have been disappointed the past 3 or 4 visits. It will be some time before we give it another chance. Sad to say.... Used to be a go to favorite for a special brunch.
Waiter and service were great! Food was disappointing to say the least
We came here over the summer, sat on the deck and had a great dinner. This time was pretty different. The place was empty for a Friday night at 630. My ahi dinner was pretty bland, overcooked rice accompanied. Hubby says fish n chips was good, huge portion. Mom got chicken marsala but it was not traditional, real thick, heavy creamy sauce no hint of marsala to be found. Lobster quesedilla had by kids seemed decent. OK traditional margarita, hard, stale bread. Bruschetta was ok, bread was blah and super hard. Red shananagin was good. Waiter was nice, did birthday dessert for my daughter
