C.I. Shenanigans Ratings and Reviews
The ambiance is great, you can't beat a sunny day on the deck over the water. The food is really good, but the prices are pretty elevated. For instance almost $15 for a glass of inexpensive Riesling of which is about $5.99 to $7.99 for an entire bottle at the store. So that seems pretty high relatively speaking. I would have expected to pay about half of what was charged in any other restaurant (next door) for the same glass. I think $6.99 to $7.99 per glass would have been more like it.
We were in the mood for a very nice meal with a good view. We made reservations and the hostess showed us to our table. Rather than give a narrative I will just provide bullet points.
•waiter was awkward and inattentive (never did get his name)
•prime rib was tasteless and boring (waiter didn't ever ask if we were enjoying our meal)
•horseradish sauce was missing the horseradish
•we were never offered a 2nd glass of wine, or margarita
•mashed potatoes were awful (missing something?)
The restaurant was dead (it was Friday night) so it's apparent that things have been sub-par for a while. We used to come to this restaurant when I was younger, and the food and service was always wonderful. Next time, I'll steer clear. It's like they replaced the Chef with a Line Cook.
I've had better food, and service in a high school cafeteria.
Bathrooms were flooded. Ran out of several brunch items as we arrived (crab, bananas, and prime rib was gone for awhile, dessert items.. ) When the prime rib came at the end of our meal I went to get a cut. Was givin just a small piece of lard. Lady near me advised she had received a similar cut.
Bad value for bacon and sesame chicken which is what we had to resort to eating. But they gave us $5 off the total bill though. Thanks, keep it.
Been coming for decades. Worst experience we've had here. Not sure what's going on but something has changed. Desert options seem really scaled back also.
Seated on the deck for Sunday Brunch. The view was amazing and the food was delicious. Our waiter, Jason, was attentive. We had mimosas and ice tea. They had so many food options that there was something for everyone. My favorites were the oyster shooters and the made to order crepes. I had banana and caramel - yum!
We had reservations for 7 pm, and we arrived so the hostess let us know we could go to the bar and they will come get us when the table was ready. 7 pm came and gone, nearly 20 minutes later after the bartender actually was able to get them on track we were finally seated. The waiter took forever to take our orders. Food itself was delicious, the view and atmosphere was fantastic. It's just to bad we had to get other waiters attention in order to get serviced.
The brunch was recommended to us as we were looking for something similar to Salty's. We were definitely disappointed. The selection was minimal. The raw oysters were pretty milky (we generally love raw oysters). The 3 meal items I tried were good but I was expecting more. The server was rarely available and the table clearer/water girl even more scarce. I actually had to go to the hostess to get water and our table cleared. We had already had two bad dinner experiences at Shenaningans....brunch wasn't any different. **note...when we did see the server and water girl they were very pleasant.
We ordered the Prime Rib, med rare. It arrive med well. The server brought it saying there was no more med rare available. If I had known that I would have ordered something else. I changed my order to Ribeye also med rare. Waited while my party ate their food. The Ribeye arrived med well also. I told the server but at that point didn't want to wait for another meal. Basically I ate a very expensive baked potato for dinner.
The waiter brought us the menu with the specials of the day. We were there for a 4:00 dinner.
After a lot of thought I decided on the chicken special. When the waiter came back to take our order he said sorry we are out of that. Not a huge menu to choose from so I settled on a steak.
It was overcooked. the mashed potatoes were not very good. Over all not a good experience.
Outstanding service from our waiter D'Artagnan. He was fun, attentive, and understood the best times to check in with us. Unfortunately C.I.'s food tastes the same as it did in the '90s. Nothing really stands out on the dinner menu--Most of the featured seafood items are rather pedestrian. Drinks from the bar are solid. We recommend the fish tacos, but with the heat on the corn salad turned waaaay down in the future. The Fish and chips are ok, but we miss the one large piece of fish, rather than the three batter bombs as currently prepared. We will be back. The lunchtime atmosphere and service from the bar is one of the best places for an adult beverage in Tacoma.
Service was nonexistent!!!! Restaurant was dead and I was not cared for.. paying over $50 for a meal and I have to always ask my my bartender to come get me something is ridiculous!!! Bartender and Servers stayed in there corner and chatted with what seemed to be a manger. They even had a couple walk out at another table because they was given drinks and never attended to again. Was a tourist traveling through town, and I will not recommend this place..
When we arrived we were notified that reservations were running about 20 minutes behind but we could be seated in the lounge area right away. Well we sat in the lounge area for 20 minutes anyway without anyone greeting us. Can't speak for the food because we ended up leaving and going to the Ram next door that promptly sat us (with no reservation) and had us in and out in no time. Don't waste your time and just go next door, they have better water views anyways
Overall it was just okay. We wanted to sit outside but they said nothing was available. When we were seated, we looked outside and there were at last four tables available. We sat down around 8:30 and ordered around of drinks and apps, when 9 o'clock hit we were told about happy hour only to have our waiter come back to us and tell us it only applied in the bar. We got our last round of drinks waaay later than we ordered them and by the time they came, we were already ready to go. The waiter said they were "searching for Hennessy"... food was amazing but when your bill is over $150 I would expect better service...
My wife and I came here to celebrate our 48th wedding Anniversary. Our food and drinks were amazing and the service was impeccable . We shared a Mudd Pie for a closing evening treat. It was delicious. We have never been disapointed at this establishment. Thank you for an evening we will never forget.
We've eaten at CI Shenanigans many times over the years. Sunday, we were extremely disappointed. Our food was delicious and the view is fantastic so that was great. However, the service and environment was poor. We had to ask several times for drink refills, none of our empty or dirty dishes were cleared so they began stacking up, the four surrounding tables sat dirty for almost our entire dinner, then it took 20 mins to get our check picked up. Not the experience I'd expect for a $300 dinner tab.
Service was terrible. Made the reservation with special requests to leave a nice romantic set up. Nothing ever happened even after I reminded and showed the waitress proof of confirmation email. I was ready to spend some money and enjoy but service was so bad I was never offered another glass of wine or even my own box for the rest of my food. I had to walk my bill up to get it closed out! Terrible! Never will go back. Have better service at Red Robin or jack in the box! 😡
The food was good, but with the place as empty as it was, it took a long time. The noise & conversation from the staff in kitchen area could be heard in the dining area. The dining area was uncomfortablely warm. Not the same service or ambiance as I remembered when celebrating special occasion.
We've had bad luck with the service at Shenanigans our past few visits, but decided to give them one more chance. Sadly, that was a mistake. The restaurant was at half capacity, with virtually everyone dining outside. We were a party of 7. After being seated 15 minutes we had water delivered. After 30 minutes our waiter took beverage and appetizer orders. One hour later we received our appetizers, and then only after I asked the waiter if he had forgotten about them or if they going to be served with the entrees. The waiter had vanished for a length of time, and told us he had been busy assisting the cook. So in assisting the cook, he neglected his diners. When the calamari appetizers finally arrived they were excessively greasy, and in a blob. They had to be pried apart in order to eat them...very nasty. I would not recommend C.I. Shenanigans to anyone.
We have been going to C.I. Shenanigans for over twenty years. In the past we would go for New Years Eve. Now we take friends there for lunch or dinner. They also keep going back. Our granddaughter who is 10 requests we go to C. I. Shenanigans when we are in Tacoma. Our friends also have taken their granddaughter there, and it has also become her favorite dinning place.
It is a great water front restaurant.
Our table was ready upon our arrival. Bar staff , hostess and wait staff were friendly and professional but not uptight. Seated at the perfect table. Wonderful view. Server provided excellent recommendations between our choices. We had the Parmesan Halibut and the Steak w coco shrimp. The halibut was amazing. The scallops appetizers was also something I'd highly recommend. Can't say good enough things about the experience. Was a perfect evening.
The experience was awful. We ordered an appetizer that we never received, and we both ordered steaks that were delivered very late without steak knives. We asked for steak knives and the waitress told us they couldn't find any in the whole restaurant and that was why the food was late. Neither of our baked potatoes were prepared as we had requested and the bulk of the meal was cold. We picked through our entries eating what was warm enough, then when the bus boy came to take my wife's plate he asked her how the meal was and she quietly stated "not good", As he was walking back to the kitchen he made a face and stuck out his tongue taunting my wife to the waitress because she had complained. We pointed this out to the waitress and she had him "apologize" whereby he said he was sorry it had been a long day. We should have asked for a manager but we quietly paid the bill and left. We obviously won't be going back and would encourage anyone considering dining there to take their business elsewhere.
