A neighborhood gem. came here for the concert with my date. The place was busy and bustling. Service was top notch. Food was flavorful. Being an indian i was picky about the food but chutneys met my bar. Never heard of a lobster dish in an indian restaurant and this place served it. The dish was the best of all. Will surely visit again.

Chutney's was great as always. The vegetable samosas were nicely spiced with tender, flaky crust. The lobster masala was filled with succulent pieces of well-cooked lobster in a rich sauce and the chicken sagwaala was lots of chicken in a wonderful green sauce of pureed broccoli, cilantro and mint perhaps. I forget the ingredients, but not the flavor. We were there early before a show, so I don't know what the noise level is later in the night, but it was quiet and very comfortable when we were there.

Chutney's has been around a long time. I suspect they survive due to their tasty, authentic Indian food. We have eaten here a couple of times over the past year and always find the food good. That is it. The place is in serious need of rehabilitation: The walls need painting, booth and tables need refurbishing, and, in general, the place needs an overhaul. It looks and feels tired. The staff is not trained. This time when we entered the man standing by the sign telling us to wait to be seated was so morose we weren't sure what we had done wrong. Skipping many details let me say, he was unfriendly, unhelpful and after he disappeared we were grateful. We love their rack of lamb. It is flavorful and generous. It doesn't matter if you order it rare or medium rare it will be served well done. Still, it is tasty and a nice dish with properly cooked vegetables. The bar has no olives for the martini's, no limes for the gin and tonics. Naan is delicious as are all the dishes we have ordered. When attending an event at the Seattle Center this is a good spot as it is close and there is always a table.

We have been going to Chutneys in Wallingford for many years. We had tickets to the Rep so decided to try the Queen Anne location. First off, they have many orders for take out which is why it took a long time to get served our dinner. Second, the chicken in the Tiki Masala was over cooked and chewey. Third, the Salmon was delicious. Fourth, our drink order was wrong as was the dinner. So maybe try some other things and make your own decision.

This is a different restaurant since new management took over several years ago. Creative dishes, and always delicious. We go before the opera, a tradition.

Casual environment with a casual approach.
Very good food options. Chicken and lamb dishes are very tasty. The shrimp appetizer was a favorite of the group.
Easily shareable dishes. We ordered two entree's and an appetizer for 4 persons.
We did make a reservation for a Saturday night and it wasn't necessary but reassuring.
Surprise was the cocktails. They were nice and had a fresh approach.

We ordered Paneer tikka masala and Garlic naan. The Paneer tikka masala was so sweet I confused it with shahi Paneer, but the taste was good. Garlic naan had garlic paste over and garlic was not stuffed, but again tasted very good. Niw quantity: Naan were small in size but the quantity of Paneer tikka masala was good for 2 people. They gave Jeera rice with Paneer tikka masala which tasted awesome. The best among all and sufficient quantity also. Went with Groupon coupon. Witht the coupon it is more than worth it. Definitely worth a try restaurant.

We went on an opera night. We have been there numerous times before with satisfactory results. The service this time was very slow about 40 minutes before our food came. It was a tandoori combo. All food on the plate was over-cooked, quite salty, and dry. i could hardly tell if I was eating meat or fish because it was all mushy. My husband shared it with me and had the same opinion. He and I were disappointed and hesitate to return.

Some surprisingly good dishes on this menu. The Tandoori Rack of Lamb is one great example of tasty, generous portion and very reasonably priced though a bit over cooked. Other items very tasty as well. We felt the wait staff was poorly trained. Simply being of East Indian heritage does not qualify a person to serve Indian food. I do not know how many differing people stopped at our table to ask the same question as previously asked. And, when we asked some of them about certain dishes their lack of knowledge of their food was apparent. The general manager is a charming, helpful guy. He is not well supported by his staff. Maybe it is expected for them to have lousy cocktails and a terrible wine list. Straight up martini served at room temperature without any type garnish. ??? The mango mousse slice was served still in its frozen state, Rather like a mango Popsicle right out of the package. Very disappointing end to a tasty meal.

My wife and I are great fans of Chutney's in the University District. Also, The Taste of India (off Roosevelt Ave NE), which I think is family-owned. However, we were quite disappointed with Chutney's on Queen Anne! It appeared as if the restaurant was newly opened and our server was brand new. He really tried hard, but was not acquainted with basic requests like a cilantro and /or tamarind chutney sauce to accompany the Garlic Naan. Our entrees were very dry and came, once again, with no sauce of any kind. I asked for a side of either curry or butter sauce and was brought a cold yogurt mix. My wife's 'Special- of -the-Night' was cilantro chicken. The chicken pieces had a light- green hue which was almost unpalatable to look at. In all, it was a disappointing experience as we were really looking forward to a new Chutney's near the Theatre District. I wish them the very best and I'm sure the restaurant will continue to 'take shape'.

I was looking for Indian food on Queen Ann for a dinner catch up with an old friend and had not been Chutney's on Queen Ann in several years. The service was excellent. They were timely, helpful and attentive. The food was very good although my friend asked for mild spice on her lamb dish and it was spicier than my medium spice on my chicken dish. We were very comfortable in a booth and appreciated the quite atmosphere so we could talk and hear each other to catch up. There were some extra chairs by the front door with worn upholstery on the seat that did not make a positive first impression however the overall décor is fine. I would recommend it as place for very good Indian food with excellent service, especially when seeking a restaurant where you can have a conversation.

Correct Scale of Hotness
Many Indian restaurants will serve you spicy and hot dishes even if they say they are mild or medium. I ask for medium hot at Chutneys and that’s what I got. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed it.

We went there on a Friday night and it seemed incredibly quiet. The food was fine and the service was good too. No complaints. Although I would have expected medium spicy level to have tasted a bit hotter but we all enjoyed the meal.

Went in for an uncrowded Mother's Day dinner. (It appears most of their business is takeout.) The food was outstanding, as good as the top NYC Indian restaurants. Fresh bhajia, done perfectly, with wonderful chutneys. Excellent tikka masala (both paneer and murgh/chicken). Delicious alu ghobi. Savory garlic naan. And three good beers on tap, as well as bottles and a full liquor license. The service was prompt but not warm, more workmanlike. Dishes came out a bit too fast, leaving insufficient time to savor the appetizers. A lot of reviewers have written very mixed reviews of this place. Maybe the owners have taken them to heart, though they still might want to spend some time studying how other restaurants do it. But in the end, we came for the food, and it was outstanding. (Made for great leftovers for Monday lunch as well.)

We will definitely go back to experience more of the wonderful East Indian cuisine. While the servers were very polite, they didn't time the meal so it all kind of came at once, appetizers and entrees.

There were only three tables of people, but we were really neglected, having to wait again and again and wave to get someone's attention and make our requests. I got the feeling that, because they were NOT very busy, they kind of got distracted by other activities and forgot about us diners.

We liked that it was not too noisy.

Still, the food was SO GOOD that we expect to return to Chutney's Queen Anne and to try the Chutney's in Wallingford Center, too. It was probably just an off night for the servers.

Our dinner was excellent. I typically hesitate to order fish in an Indian restaurant, as it is overcooked so easily. Our salmon was grilled perfectly and paired with a delicate masala sauce. The cauliflower in the aloo gobi was flavorful and just tender - not overcooked, the saag sauce with the chicken was the best I have had, and the lamb curry with apricots was delicious. Our friends, who were a bit skeptical of some of the dishes we were ordering, loved everything. We definitely will go back again.

I read that this Chutney's was sold to another couple who are the current owners, and the menu is markedly different from the other Chutney restaurants. I was a little thrown off by this but my wife and I were immensely pleased with the food and the service. The owners were the only staff there and they were both extremely polite and attentive. The food was rich and wonderfully spiced. The prices were just a tad higher than the other Chutney's restaurants, but the food was different and just as good. The restaurant looks a bit more American modern (all beige and black), and nicely decorated. Overall, I really good dining experience.

We came for a pre-opera lunch. Location is very convenient to Seattle Center. The hardest thing was to choose from the very complete menu, which includes many Indian Restaurant standards as well as dishes I haven't seen before. Everything we ordered was supremely tasty. This will be our new favorite place in Seattle for Indian cuisine.

Went to Chutney's for dinner before a show at the Arena. The restaurant was busy with other diners trying to make the same show. Our server misplaced our order and the food never came. Many parties who sat down after us finished their meal before we even got our food. However, the servers and staff were completely honest about what happened and apologized profusely for forgetting to place our order. The food was very good once it arrived, and the staff gave us free dessert as well as a 15% discount for our troubles. We really appreciated the staff's honesty and efforts to make things right. We will be returning again, and look forward to our next visit.

My partner and I are often looking for a dinner place before theatre, ballet, or opera at Seattle Center. There is a small number of options where we can get a full meal with good service and good timing -- not a pub or sports bar -- within quick walking distance of the Center venues along Mercer Street. Chutney's is certainly one. The Indian food is good, with lots of variety. The wine and beer menus are not huge, but contain some good bottles. Service is quite attentive -- and the place is generally quite empty at 5:30 or 6:00 on a weekend evening, so it's quiet and the staff is far from overwhelmed.

Entree servings are very ample -- next time we go, I'll suggest that we order two appetizes and one entree, and share.

My wife and I enjoyed the very nice Indian cuisine at Chutney's, which is conveniently located for the theaters on Mercer and across from Key Arena. The menu offered well-prepared traditional dishes and some unusual offerings. The onion appetizer was notable and the coconut curry was exceptional. The dining area is large, clean, pleasant, and appropriately decorated with Indian motifs. The mix of tables allows for twosomes through large family gatherings. Ambient noise was minimal, making this a nice place for conversation without straining to communicate over excessive music. Several draft beer offerings are a plus. The service was very attentive and the owner stopped by to make sure we were happy. We will be returning!
