Great service and the food was outstanding. We were not familiar with the French wines so, our waiter helped us find a fantastic wine pairing with our food.

Go there! The food is just mouth watering, but every bit as wonderful as the food is the humor and humanity of the staff. Adam and Megan made our lives an absolute joy the night we came. From the moment we walked in with our nephew and his girl, our experience was delight after delight. The room is lively. Our quartet ordered everything from steaks to vegan fare, and the taste treat was uniformly wonderful for each. It's hard to describe a feeling -- but go there and you'll know what I mean. It's like walking into a place that was built for your ease and comfort while eating food that you've only dreamt about. Thank you all at CHURCH AND STATE!

We when on a Tuesday and it was surprisedly not crowded !

The service was very good and friendly ! Food was excellent ! We wish we had room for more!

The duck and chicken entree had many excellent flavors. The Brussels sprouts had a hint of anchovy (yum!)
Desert (can’t even say how good!)

We will be back

The ambiance is lovely at Church & State and on another occasion we enjoyed wonderful cocktails. This was our 1st dining experience here and we will not go back. It seemed the kitchen forgot our order. Our early Sunday dinner took 3 hours. The duck breast, practically raw, was inedible. The restaurant gave us an extra dessert (pot de creme) to compensate: a meager gesture.
Highlight of the meal was the Moules Frites. 2 of our party of 4 haf the Sunday prix fixe which is a good value.

Church and State does a very nice job of French bistro classics. The portions are generous and presentation is good. We did have one newly-minted vegetarian in the group who was struggling a bit for something other than the seasonal vegetables as an entre. The service was terrific and very gracious as we were a bit of a high-maintenance group. This is one of my favorite restaurants and a great place to go with friends.

Wonderful service, nice ambiance & most importantly - a flavorful dinner. The steak tartare app was well seasoned and the cassoulet was exceptional.

This is one of my fave dining spots in LA. From the moment you enter to the moment you leave, you feel well taken care of. The staff is friendly, knowledgable about their food and beverages, attentive, accommodating, and genuinely lovely. The ambiance is laid back, beautiful, and luxe. And the food always excellent.

We dined last Friday night and had a wonderful and delightful waitress....wish I remembered her name. The food was incredible and my French 75 was delicious. I would definitely go back.

screaming babies at church and state no a friday night? seriously? everyone in the restaurant was uncomfortable, including the management, yet no one spoke to the couple with the crying infant, no one moved them to a corner or outside.
it took 3 attempts to get anyone to take out drink order.
we ordered 24 oysters and it took about 30 minutes for them to arrive at our table.
the food was delicious, as always, but the waitstaff was chaotic and ill-prepared and church and state on a weekend night is not the place where anyone expects to encounter crying infants.
open table gives no "noise level" choices appropriate- i checked "energetic" but that is the noise level i have encountered at c and s in the past. it is NOT what we encountered on friday night last--which was just stupid infant screaming noise.

I'd seen this restaurant on Los Angeles eats lists. It's not in an area I ever go to so I visited after a trip to The Broad. Wow! What a gem. All of our meals were fabulous! I can't wait to find a reason to go back!

Restaurant felt like New York or Europe. Lovely. Open table lied about number of open reservations and we found ourselves in a practically empty restaurant at 6 pm.

I like to bring my friends to this restaurant - each time I walk through the art district, I need to juxtapose it with something as close to the old world as possible. Church and State comes as close to that as possible in that neck of the woods. The ambience, the building and the perfect bread compensate for some occasional short comings: excessive salt in a salad and such. Will be back for sure.

They call to confirm the same day. They'll only seat you when the whole party is present. We were definitely ready to eat after finishing the apps, the entrees took a bit of time to get there. The veggie entree was dull and the birthday girl was the veggie, otherwise the food was excellent. Attentive service. Drinks were good but not strong. All told satisfying experience, C&S continues to be a standout on the east side/in dtla.

Lovely dinner with friends.
The drinks are very good. I had the Hemingway cocktail.
For dinner I started with an appetizer of Goat cheese with lavender and honey, wonderful!
Dinner was Cassoulet which had duck confit, lamb shank, a house garlic sausage on a bed of white beans - perfect for fall.
Dessert was a delicious pear tart. The service from our waitress was impeccable! Will be back soon.

When making the reservation, it asks you to select and occassion and "add a special request." I put down that it is a birthday and we have 2 ladies celebrating their birthdays. We ordered dessert, they came and NOT EVEN A CANDLE. So why did the reservation ask for occassion and special request?

I drive 70 miles to dine at Church and State, that is how much I love this restaurant. Not only is the food delicious, the service is outstanding. The complex flavors of the cassoulet belies it's common origins. The waiter had the kitchen prepare a salad not currently on the menu, which was not only divine, but artfully plated. I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant.

I enjoyed very much the bone marrow, excellent and very original. But there was nearly nothing else to eat with it. Fortunately my friend ordered French fries and we shared them.
Kir Royal was great, and very French.
