Church + Dey Ratings and Reviews
With so much traffic, construction and congestion in the area, church + dey is a great alternative for lunch. The restaurant is on the third floor of the millennium hilton and was a great place to meet an old friend for lunch. Service was great and the food was a level higher than hotel food. It was a bit on the pricey side, but the view of the Freedom Tower and the new construction made it well worth it.
I asked the restaurant to call me to let me know what Easter Brunch would offer. They did not. We arrived to find $35 huevos rancheros and $35 ceasar salad, which came with a kabob of fruit in a pool of yogurt. Burgers & Soup & Salad. We were the only people in the place and still the three servers (including manager) failed to refill coffee--ever. Server peppered two salads and left without asking if he should do the soups (which needed it). The light bistro food was completely indifferent, and not one person bothered to smile, much less actually bring what we needed (a teaspoon, son's entree, my coffee) in any reasonable manner. View of WTC construction is cool. Go up and look at it, but don't stay for food. Dreadful.
No acknowledgement from the staff of my reservation for 10:45 a.m. when I walked in. Staff looked almost surprised to see me and seemed relieved when I said all I needed was coffee. They promptly wanted to serve me coffee before I took my coat off. Had to hold them off till my guest arrives. Nice people but strange experience.
Location is good for NYC/Jersey City meetings.
Review is based on a dine the evening before, when restaurant unaffected by Hurricane Sandy. Food was better than expected. Chopped salad was outstanding, as was the margarita pizza. The sandwiches also lunch and tasty, fries crispy. The servers, well, what can I say? They are not well trained, too many come to your table, none are knowledgeable about wine, and while polite, they lack any panache and appear disorganized. Better management? Better training? Don't expect much from service, the food will surprise you.
