Chuck's Southern Comforts Cafe - Burbank Ratings and Reviews
Server came, (never gave us his name but we sat on the west end on the building an aisle away from the wall) took our drink order, someone from the bar brought our beers. Came back for our food order which was brought out by the kids from the kitchen and never came back again. We had to flag him down for the bill and he still never asked how our food was. He missed out on a larger tip b/c we wanted another beer each and possibly a dessert. I rarely tip less than 20% but did 15% so that he could tip out the bar and busboys He sure came back to pick up the check though. Luckily, the food was fantastic as usual
We went on a double date. We choose this restaurant because it was close to home and it was on the list for restaurant week. The food was pre-made and had been sitting from the looks of it. The gravy had lumped up and was surely microwaved. I will never go here for a meal again. The only good thing was, while waiting on our table, the time in the bar was pleasant and the drinks were great.
Had the Restaurant Week Menu, but should have just ordered off the menu and it may have been a better experience. The salad was the best course. The grits were too stiff and clumpy, mac n cheese was dry, and the hummingbird cake was very disappointing. Obviously massed produced in a factory and frozen. More cream cheese frosting than hard, dry cake.
The food was great as always. Service was a little slow and they had a lot of people for the buffet seated in the main dining room instead of the Voodoo Lounge, which was where the buffet was setup. There were tons of empty tables in the Lounge but we did not have an opportunity to sit there, so we had to get our food and walk all the way across the restaurant and through people waiting to be seated, to our table. It was a bit disorganized. Other than that it was fine.
I went to Chucks for Restaurant Week. This was a return after an amazing experience there in 2016. This year I was extremely disappointed. The only thing I enjoyed was the Poblano soup with Shrimp. The shrimp and grits was cold and was overwhelmed with tomato sauce. They were out of the brisket so I had the salmon which had very little flavor. And finally the hummingbird cake was dense, way to sweet and was cold like it had just come out of the refrigerator. Very disappointing after such an amazing prior experience.
Our go-to for a casual nite out! LOTS of menu changes! Tried the onion ring appetizer & it was fantastic! Our favorite is the chicken fried chicken entree! Sometimes we get a little piece of chicken and small portion of beans....this time we both had a beautifully cooked breast & big portion of beans! I don't know who was cooking, but it was delicious!
Server was attentive and did not rush us!
I went here for restaurant week. The poblano soup was supposed to have shrimp. No shrimp just corn and green beans. The shrimp and grits were not that great. The shrimp were very spicy. No garlic butter sauce like the menu stated instead it was some type of red sauce. The grits were stiff and not creamy. Not sure if I would go back and try something else.
The food was delicious and the lemonade was TASTY. The only complaint was we called the restaurant to say we were looping the parking lot and were going to be late because there was no availability (it's residential permit parking only on the street). Instead of the employee saying there is parking across the street they just said okay!
I wish that I remembered the name of our waitress. Fun, quick, very nice. All of our food was good. The prices have crept up over the past few years so it isn’t a bargain, but the quality and quantity are still good. If they extended the breakfast hours on Sunday I think they’d get more customers.
We went to Chucks on a friend's recommendation. The menu had lots of good options. The Shrimp Quesdadilla appetizer was the best part of the meal . The portion sizes are very large. My barbecued chicken platter was tasty; I've had better barbecue elsewhere. My husband had a Mexican pot roast Sunday night special. The food and the sides (mashed potatoes and veges) were soggy and the entire meal looked as if it had been sitting in a pot for a long time. Our friends seemed to enjoy their meal The mac'n' cheese side was tasty. All in all, I think that this is an average neighborhood reastaurant and one can have a decent meal there.
Chuck’s serves great BBQ, no question about that! It is also the only BBQ joint I know of that has table service. That said, be prepared to slow down the pace of service, i.e, don’t order your entree until you have finished your soup, appetizer, whatever, and are ready for the meal. Hubby and I ordered cups of soup, which came out of the kitchen promptly. Silly us, we put in the dinner order when we ordered the soup (house made Brunswick stew and beef barley, both hearty and tasty!). I had only eaten a few spoonfuls (at least two thirds of the cup remaining), when the runner delivered our entrees. Placing his hand on the saucer, and spoon still in my hand, he asked if I was done with the soup! I said “No.” I wish they would pace their service a bit. While finishing my soup, waitress stopped by to ask how my as yet untouched dinner was. Too soon to tell, she never did stop back to find out (that is another story). Sides are House made, okay, gravy very salty. I recommend sticking with the BBQ dishes, and stay away from the specials du jour. Chuck’s has a full bar, wines and a HUGE beer menu. Live and learn, I guess.
