Christopher's Prime Steak House & Grill Ratings and Reviews
The overall experience was very good. The steaks are generous in size and the texture of beef was superior to cheaper steakhouses. The portions were generous and the Brussel sprouts were amazing. The ambiance is very amber, generally quite, and it doesn't start to fill up until 730pm.
Food wasn't the worst steakhouse, but not the best either. The disappointing part was my wife and I asked to forgo our included appetizers with our meal for a joint upgraded appetizer, to which we were told wouldn't be a problem...only to find out after we consumed the appetizer that the waiter said his "calculation was off" implying that we would be liable for a portion of the cost for the upgraded appetizer. However, when our bill came, we were charged for the full amount, and not given our included appetizer with our dinner.
Love Christopher's food. Their chefs are five star!! Love the decor and ambiance. However, our waiter misquoted the price of a meal that was ordered. He said $39 and the bill said $90. Wasn't too happy about that. Three of us heard the price quote so I am pretty sure that it was not misheard.
Service at Christopher's for this special occasion left something to be desired. For being a high end steak house the Filet Mignon needed to be recooked as the first steak came out well done. We were also told Halibut was on the menu for the special and then the server said, oh I am sorry, my mistake, we actually don't have that tonight! and this is supposed to be a 4 star restaurant?
Overall we were not satisfied with the dinning experience at Christopher's and do not plan on going back.
We had a party of 6 with reservations. We still have to wait 20 mins for our table to be ready.
The market fish entrée served was dry. The cioppino was incredibly salty & completely inedible! The steaks were good as were the appetizers. Service was sporadic. Our server was very nice but she was poorly supported. This was NYE & they weren't especially busy. There was no effort made whatsoever by management to make the place festive or decorated for NYE - it was rather a let down! I'd go again for an occasion for a good steak dinner (Pricing similar to Ruth Chris etc..), but never again for NYE & wouldn't be top of my list for re-visiting.
I was given a gift card as a gift by a friend and had a reservation made for me. When I showed up for my reservation I found out that the gift card that was given to me could not be used. That was a little frustrating but the overall service and food was well worth it.
If you're planning to use a groupon or other discount, be sure to read the fine print because Christopher's has now put so many restrictions on when you can use them, it makes it not worth the trouble. In addition, the prices have gone up dramatically from the last time we ate there. We will not be going back.
Server brought our salads to us after we had been eating our entrees for a couple minutes. Clueless server. Didn't get much of an apology, only blamed it on the kitchen, which that is the servers fault. Meat was undercooked.
Better food at Ruth Chris. This place is even slightly more expensive. Only reason we tried it was because of a groupon.
Food was good, but not outstanding as expected. Order was not delivered as requested. Service was unusually slow and not very attentive. The setting was nice and live music very pleasant. Steaks were a little over priced for the quality. Overall we were a little disappointed.
This was definitely not a fine dining experience worth returning to. The food was very good (but not outstanding) and the service was terrible. It all started when we arrived 8 minutes past our reservation time. We were told, "You are going to have to wait because you are really late for your reservation." It was confusing because then 20 seconds later we were sat (never having received an offer to check our coats). After ordering drinks, they took 15+ minutes to arrive at our table. Then, bread took another 15 minutes on top of that. Appetizers came out in a reasonable time, but then the gap between our appetizer and entrees was awkwardly long. The time between our entree and our check was entirely unreasonable - we are talking 30 minutes after we requested the check before it arrived at our table and then another 30 minutes once we put our card in the bill for them to pick it back up again.
There was also poor communication between the waiter and "manager." The waiter initially told us a promotion we had was not available, but before we ordered returned to let us know the "manager" said we could use the promotion. Then once the bill came the "manager" approached our table and told us we couldn't use the promotion. This was extremely annoying and the "manager" wouldn't budge because "even though the waiter told you that you could use it, the exception was listed in the fine print of the promotion, so that is on you." There was no accountability from the manager and no willingness to honor what the waiter communicated to us (there was no dispute of what the waiter told us, only on whether or not they would honor that. In the end, they did not honor the promotion).
Based on this experience, we would not recommend the restaurant. The very good food did not outweigh the terrible service (especially considering the cost).
We were staying at the Peery Hotel for the night and decided to go to Christopher's. We went to Christopher's ten years ago at their previous location and enjoyed the experience. We knew how much higher the menu prices were than the normal restaurants we frequent often. The quality of the food lived up to the higher price level we were expecting. Our appetizers (spare ribs and donut-sized onion rings), our salads, our main entrees (Filet Mignon 8oz, Butternut Squash Ravioli's) and even the desert (creme-brulee) was the best we have ever tasted. Though the menu prices will limit us returning often, the food was incredible. The only small complaint I would have is that the server was busy with many tables, so at times it seems we were waiting longer than expected, yet our food courses did come out promptly, fresh and hot.
we were in slc for a convention, very casual clothes, we usually share a meal when we dine out, especially when staying at a hotel.(can't take left overs home) I asked for one meal he looks at my hooded sweater are you using a coupon? I said yes he said we have to buy 2 meals, it went down hill from there, he didn't offer to bag up our food like the other service staff was doing, the manager took care of our coupon, I asked for a bag and they just walked by the table and tossed it there. Didn't bag it up or wish us a good night. Being snotty does not count as good customer service, I am a business owner myself and will not recommend this place to any of my clients, being nice doesn't depend on how much money you think we have. We should have went to Ruth's they get great reviews from my middle class friends and clients.
The food was fantastic.
The service, however, was really underwhelming. It was 20 minutes after we were seated before anyone came by to take our order (other than drinks). Once we did order, it took 45 minutes to get our food. The bus boys who hand out rolls and top off drinks just kept skipping the 3 tables in our section. Even when I flagged them down to ask for something, and got a "I'll be right back with that" response, they forgot about us and didn't come back. Again, the food was fantastic, but they even struggled there. I asked for one of their complementary side sauces to go with my steak, it didn't come out with my meal. When I asked our waiter about it, he said he'd be right back with it. After 10 minutes of waiting I gave up and ate my meal without it. Our waiter came back with it when I had two bites left. Then, we told him we needed to get going to make it to another event and asked for our desert to-go. I also asked him to bring our check asap so I could get it taken care of. He again disappeared and didn't come back until the desert was done. He handed me the check with the desert and I told him to hold on as I had my card ready to go. I stuck the card in with the check and went to hand it to him and he was already gone. 15 minutes later he came back to get the check. By this time I was pretty irritated as we were about to be late to our next stop. Now, to be fair, we went on a very busy night where they had two large Christmas parties going on in half the restaurant, but there were 3 couples that came in after, ate and left before we even got our check. For what we payed for our meal, I would think service would be an emphasis.
Next time we'll go to Spencer's.
