Christie's Seafood & Steaks Ratings and Reviews
Hadn't been there in years so we decided to order their classic fried shrimp. I had the combo of fried & stuffed shrimp. The stuffing was delicious but the breading on the shrimp was heavy and thick. I prefer the lighter coating used in restaurants of today. I recommend getting dressing on the side as salad was heavily dressed. Baked potato was good but onion rings we're so so.
We arrived and it wasn’t very busy yet. The service was great and very attentive. We ordered cocktails and those were good. We ordered appetizers and those were ok, nothing special. Our entrees however were not good at all. My steak came out and looked gray and was not appetizing at all. My fiancé ordered the crawfish etoufee and it was very bland. Our dessert was very good. Overall for a meal that cost us over $100 for two people, we were very disappointed.
Hard to review right after Harvey, their front (nice) dining area closed due to water damage...ate in the back/overflow room which isn't that great...but understandable. We went for Houston Food Bank menu, actually thought my entree Seafood Platter was very skimpy. Small piece of catfish, two small shrimp and two small crab balls -- thought they were little hush puppies. If I had bought that off the regular menu I would be very dissatisfied and a "no" recommendation. That said, their non-greasy light crisp batter on ahrimp and fish is wonderful, which is why we go there. Excellant shrimp (1!) gumbo, very tasty mango crab appetizer. Dessert course was out of the box cheesecake but o.k. Foodbank got their money and we ate out after staying in for over a week!
Well. We sat down in our regular spot. This family across the room had two children running literally through the restaurant. Very loud. At one point the younger child on the table dancing and screaming and the father is filming the child. Obnoxious. We are old time customers and I have never seen anything like it. In the end. We finally complained the to manager. She had a lame excuse that the children were autistic. I call BS. Just an excuse. The manager NEVER approached the table to quite them. I will follow up with the owners tomorrow. Complete BS. Awful evening
The best fried shrimp in Houston!!! Huge butterfly, amazing coating, crunchy, crispy, secret flavors!!!!
Greek salad is also special here.
Service, atmosphere are nice.
Family is still involved & should be proud that the quality & family pride is still 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was my first time at this restaurant. There was ground pepper scattered on the table I was shown to. No biggie, but not expected. Our waitress was very nice, but didn't seem to understand our orders for the first course. She brought two correct orders, and thought we all wanted gumbo. So one person was waiting with no food about 5 minutes until she brought 3 gumbo. Two of which we sent back. The rest of the meal went great. I especially loved the salmon I ordered. I'd probably get takeout if I ever wanted to go back.
The food is consistently good and the noise level is great. You can actually have a conversation.
I never eat fried foods except for Christi's fried shrimp. They are the best. Ate there twice in a couple of weeks and had the jumbo lump crab sautéed the previous visit. It was fantastic.
Great place to go if you are looking for good food, quiet atmosphere and a not too fancy setting!
We had a wonderful Early Father's Day Dinner with seating for 12. The tables were not crowded the light was good, the house Chardonnay was very good, We enjoyed the peach margaritas and the food was everything my 74 year old father had described. His favorite being the baked potato and stuffed shrimp. "The same recipe I had on a band trip in high school. I looked for this place for years and was elated to know Christies was still around. Although the first place with the Giant Shrimp outside I had first ate at had burned down shortly after I rediscovered it near the Astrodome, I was glad to know we can still enjoy the stuffed shrimp of my dreams" The gumbo wasn't like any I have ever had it definitely had a Greek flair with a slight cinnamon twist, but was delicious and the oysters weren't breaded with "Cracker Crumbs" but were on the ok list for our Grandmother. I enjoyed the Chicken Mushroom& wine Entrée and would have it over and over again! Thank You for a wonderful dinner and serving our large family. The wait staff was superb!
We were very disappointed after reading prior reviews. The food was tasteless, we started with oysters Rocheller which not hot and had not taste, I had their famous fried shrimp which were overlooked with way too much batter. My wife had a Greek seafood platter which was ok, the grilled fish was very tasty.
The place was almost completely empty , we understand why
I had the sauted lump crab, which was excellent, it almost tasted like lobster. The blue cheese wedge was good, but I've had better. The bread and corn muffins were good and they were served with plenty of butter. So yes, I would recommend this restaurant and I will be back. Thanks
The service and ambiance was awesome. We had the perfect waiter who was engaging but not to the level of being a annoying, he was great. With that, the food was somewhat disappointing. I don't want to judge with the food itself since it very well could be due to personal preference. We did enjoy ourselves but because of the food experience, we probably won't be back...but would still recommend to all to judge the food for themselves because I'd hate anyone not to experience the warm greeting, great personal service or the ambiance that we enjoyed so much. But the food, I can't recommend it.
We love to eat at Christie's because the food is always great. Very disappointed in Mother's Day and Birthday celebration this time at the restaurant. Table was only set up for 7 not 8 as confirmed by open table, and reconfirmed at the restaurant. Nobody got us an additional chair and place setting, had to do that ourselves. The drink and appetizer orders were very slow arriving, and the wine came after we completed the meal. The restaurant was busy, but no where near full - more like half full.
This is my husband's favorite seafood restaurant in Houston. The décor might be dated, but the menu continues to change with the times, while keeping classics from the original 1917 menu. The newly added wedge salad with their homemade blue cheese dressing and crispy bacon was as good as you will get in a five star restaurant.
Excellent food for reasonable prices. Perhaps the best fried shrimp I've tasted in years. My father's crab topped fish was excellent as well. The kids meals are very well priced, such that my biggest kid ordered two of them and it was still less than an adult entrée. We all, including my parents, brought down the average age of diner in the restaurant. It's a Houston landmark, but could do with a refresh/update inside and out.
