Unfortunately no one in our party enjoyed their food. Our beginning of the evening started off with great service but then went downhill quickly as it was almost like someone didn't show up for work. We asked that our mother was treated special for her 75th birthday and when it was time for the b/d song/dessert she was brought a scoop of ice cream. I would have rather ordered a slice of cake or something more special but we were never even asked what we wanted to do for that portion of the meal. We will not be back. The food felt "frozen" and not fresh at all. Very disappointing.
Much love to this place but its pretty average, gastronomically. Old school Htown simplicity with a smile:)
Have been dining here for 35+ years. Food is always good and service on spot. Always made to feel welcomed and appreciated. Will continue to visit as long as we are able. Sure do miss Pappa Love. Thank you Christie Family!
Fantastic oysters wow and great service, overall great nostalgic restaurant with great service and food
Hadn't been there in years so we decided to order their classic fried shrimp. I had the combo of fried & stuffed shrimp. The stuffing was delicious but the breading on the shrimp was heavy and thick. I prefer the lighter coating used in restaurants of today. I recommend getting dressing on the side as salad was heavily dressed. Baked potato was good but onion rings we're so so.
The shrimp were great. No so for the ribey steak. It was tough with little seasoning.
We arrived and it wasn’t very busy yet. The service was great and very attentive. We ordered cocktails and those were good. We ordered appetizers and those were ok, nothing special. Our entrees however were not good at all. My steak came out and looked gray and was not appetizing at all. My fiancé ordered the crawfish etoufee and it was very bland. Our dessert was very good. Overall for a meal that cost us over $100 for two people, we were very disappointed.
Enjoyable evening. The food was prepared appropriately but not seasoned well. THE SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL.
Hard to review right after Harvey, their front (nice) dining area closed due to water damage...ate in the back/overflow room which isn't that great...but understandable. We went for Houston Food Bank menu, actually thought my entree Seafood Platter was very skimpy. Small piece of catfish, two small shrimp and two small crab balls -- thought they were little hush puppies. If I had bought that off the regular menu I would be very dissatisfied and a "no" recommendation. That said, their non-greasy light crisp batter on ahrimp and fish is wonderful, which is why we go there. Excellant shrimp (1!) gumbo, very tasty mango crab appetizer. Dessert course was out of the box cheesecake but o.k. Foodbank got their money and we ate out after staying in for over a week!
Well. We sat down in our regular spot. This family across the room had two children running literally through the restaurant. Very loud. At one point the younger child on the table dancing and screaming and the father is filming the child. Obnoxious. We are old time customers and I have never seen anything like it. In the end. We finally complained the to manager. She had a lame excuse that the children were autistic. I call BS. Just an excuse. The manager NEVER approached the table to quite them. I will follow up with the owners tomorrow. Complete BS. Awful evening
