Yes it has been around for over 100 years and the reason ... Best Fried Shrimp in Houston. Get a dozen.... they are that good that others at your table will try one or two. Greek salad is also a must.
The service is attentive & the restaurant is quiet so you can enjoy a conversation with your friends.
Consistency is good & so is the fried 🦐
When we go to Christies we always feel like family. We had family in from Louisiana and they swear it was the best raw oysters they have ever had.
My husband and I often come to Christied for lunch and have oysters at the bar. Staff is always friendly and food ALWAYS good! We’ll be keep coming back! And now it is a destination for my Louisiana sister!!
The food was very good and they brought it fast. The host and waitress were polite and came by our table often to ask if everything is okay.
The seafood is consistently good. Most preparations are based on Gulf Coast or Cajun recipes. The cocktail sauce is disappointingly bland. The salad dressings taste very institutional. This restaurant has been around for many years and the decor is outdated, but you can get a table on a weekend evening without a reservation and have a conversation during dinner without having to shout. Prices are 50% less than at most of the more trendy seafood restaurants.
Great food and service.
Christie's has been a favorite of mine for over 50 years. The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. The Christie's Pride and Stuffed Shrimp are 2 of my favorites. They always score a 10 in my book.
Enjoyed the great environment, excellent service and good food as always.
great food as always...low key atmosphere. seafood is always fresh.
Unfortunately no one in our party enjoyed their food. Our beginning of the evening started off with great service but then went downhill quickly as it was almost like someone didn't show up for work. We asked that our mother was treated special for her 75th birthday and when it was time for the b/d song/dessert she was brought a scoop of ice cream. I would have rather ordered a slice of cake or something more special but we were never even asked what we wanted to do for that portion of the meal. We will not be back. The food felt "frozen" and not fresh at all. Very disappointing.
Much love to this place but its pretty average, gastronomically. Old school Htown simplicity with a smile:)
Have been dining here for 35+ years. Food is always good and service on spot. Always made to feel welcomed and appreciated. Will continue to visit as long as we are able. Sure do miss Pappa Love. Thank you Christie Family!
Fantastic oysters wow and great service, overall great nostalgic restaurant with great service and food
Hadn't been there in years so we decided to order their classic fried shrimp. I had the combo of fried & stuffed shrimp. The stuffing was delicious but the breading on the shrimp was heavy and thick. I prefer the lighter coating used in restaurants of today. I recommend getting dressing on the side as salad was heavily dressed. Baked potato was good but onion rings we're so so.
The shrimp were great. No so for the ribey steak. It was tough with little seasoning.
We arrived and it wasn’t very busy yet. The service was great and very attentive. We ordered cocktails and those were good. We ordered appetizers and those were ok, nothing special. Our entrees however were not good at all. My steak came out and looked gray and was not appetizing at all. My fiancé ordered the crawfish etoufee and it was very bland. Our dessert was very good. Overall for a meal that cost us over $100 for two people, we were very disappointed.
Enjoyable evening. The food was prepared appropriately but not seasoned well. THE SERVICE WAS EXCEPTIONAL.
Hard to review right after Harvey, their front (nice) dining area closed due to water damage...ate in the back/overflow room which isn't that great...but understandable. We went for Houston Food Bank menu, actually thought my entree Seafood Platter was very skimpy. Small piece of catfish, two small shrimp and two small crab balls -- thought they were little hush puppies. If I had bought that off the regular menu I would be very dissatisfied and a "no" recommendation. That said, their non-greasy light crisp batter on ahrimp and fish is wonderful, which is why we go there. Excellant shrimp (1!) gumbo, very tasty mango crab appetizer. Dessert course was out of the box cheesecake but o.k. Foodbank got their money and we ate out after staying in for over a week!
Well. We sat down in our regular spot. This family across the room had two children running literally through the restaurant. Very loud. At one point the younger child on the table dancing and screaming and the father is filming the child. Obnoxious. We are old time customers and I have never seen anything like it. In the end. We finally complained the to manager. She had a lame excuse that the children were autistic. I call BS. Just an excuse. The manager NEVER approached the table to quite them. I will follow up with the owners tomorrow. Complete BS. Awful evening
The best fried shrimp in Houston!!! Huge butterfly, amazing coating, crunchy, crispy, secret flavors!!!!
Greek salad is also special here.
Service, atmosphere are nice.
Family is still involved & should be proud that the quality & family pride is still 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Although the service was good, the food was just average. Visited during Houston Restaurant Weeks so the value was higher than had we ordered off the menu.
Christie's is 100 years old so they must be doing it right. It is the old fashioned kind of seafood restaurant and the fried food was delicious without being grease loadedl
The food was delicious. The waiter was attentive and accommodating. It was a great experience.
very nice, quiet place to eat. food is delicious.
This was my first time at this restaurant. There was ground pepper scattered on the table I was shown to. No biggie, but not expected. Our waitress was very nice, but didn't seem to understand our orders for the first course. She brought two correct orders, and thought we all wanted gumbo. So one person was waiting with no food about 5 minutes until she brought 3 gumbo. Two of which we sent back. The rest of the meal went great. I especially loved the salmon I ordered. I'd probably get takeout if I ever wanted to go back.
The food was fine. The bill was definitely more than the value on the plate.
5 had seafood options, all enjoyed. The one steak was over cooked.
The food is consistently good and the noise level is great. You can actually have a conversation.
I never eat fried foods except for Christi's fried shrimp. They are the best. Ate there twice in a couple of weeks and had the jumbo lump crab sautéed the previous visit. It was fantastic.
Great place to go if you are looking for good food, quiet atmosphere and a not too fancy setting!
great food and service as always. ....the fish is always fresh and great shrimp.
This place has been my go-to for special occasions since the 70s!!!! Two thumbs up!
The chicken madiera was excellent!
They have been consistently good for the last 35 years I have dined there - service and food have always been great!
We had a wonderful Early Father's Day Dinner with seating for 12. The tables were not crowded the light was good, the house Chardonnay was very good, We enjoyed the peach margaritas and the food was everything my 74 year old father had described. His favorite being the baked potato and stuffed shrimp. "The same recipe I had on a band trip in high school. I looked for this place for years and was elated to know Christies was still around. Although the first place with the Giant Shrimp outside I had first ate at had burned down shortly after I rediscovered it near the Astrodome, I was glad to know we can still enjoy the stuffed shrimp of my dreams" The gumbo wasn't like any I have ever had it definitely had a Greek flair with a slight cinnamon twist, but was delicious and the oysters weren't breaded with "Cracker Crumbs" but were on the ok list for our Grandmother. I enjoyed the Chicken Mushroom& wine Entrée and would have it over and over again! Thank You for a wonderful dinner and serving our large family. The wait staff was superb!
Food was bland. I think they lost all the seasoning.
We were very disappointed after reading prior reviews. The food was tasteless, we started with oysters Rocheller which not hot and had not taste, I had their famous fried shrimp which were overlooked with way too much batter. My wife had a Greek seafood platter which was ok, the grilled fish was very tasty.
The place was almost completely empty , we understand why
Enjoyed a nice quite lunch of seafood. Service was good. Food was served at a nice pace. Choices were available to customize the order.
The fried shrimp are the best!! The service was spot on. I always enjoy dining here
I had the sauted lump crab, which was excellent, it almost tasted like lobster. The blue cheese wedge was good, but I've had better. The bread and corn muffins were good and they were served with plenty of butter. So yes, I would recommend this restaurant and I will be back. Thanks
Best fried shrimp in Houston!!!
Consistently excellent every time we go. Get a dozen because it is that good. Also a tasty Greek salad to enjoy.
Service is attentive...
the red snapper really appeared to red snapper and was simply and well prepared. the restaurant is not pretentious
We dined here for my husband's birthday. He loves seafood and was very pleased with the menu variety. The Opelousas snapper was divine! We will definitely return.
The service and ambiance was awesome. We had the perfect waiter who was engaging but not to the level of being a annoying, he was great. With that, the food was somewhat disappointing. I don't want to judge with the food itself since it very well could be due to personal preference. We did enjoy ourselves but because of the food experience, we probably won't be back...but would still recommend to all to judge the food for themselves because I'd hate anyone not to experience the warm greeting, great personal service or the ambiance that we enjoyed so much. But the food, I can't recommend it.
