Excellent wait staff and food. Highly recommend to all. I was surprised that it was more down to earth than expected. Casual dress fits perfect. Great food.
Famous place. Really mediocre
I took my brother and sister in law there for their wedding anniversary. They wanted to go for lunch instead of dinner so that is what we did. It was not crowded so we were seated right away. We enjoyed our food and I have to say the service was very good. I changed my mind at the last minute as to what I was going order because I thought it would be good to have a variety of food for my order and I do not recall that I had ever eaten pan broiled oysters. I have had them fried before of course, and I know I do not like them raw. But it was a nice experience since really I do not have seafood often. Better start anew!
The interior is dated. Looks like they haven't changed the place since 1970; however, it was clean and quiet. We ate around 9:00pm so there weren't many people there. The food didn't appeal to me. The fried shrimp were greasy like they warmed them by frying them again. The catfish was good. There is a strange taste to everything. I don't know what it is, but it didn't taste good. The tarter sauce really tasted bad and the fried food had the taste too. I didn't finish the shrimp.and my wife didn't finish her stuffed shrimp. We probably won't go back.
Oldest restaurant in Houston!!! Best for fried shrimp & Greek salads. I am sure other items are tasty... but I can not change my order.
Yes there is an older crowd... but we know good delicious foods. Servings are perfect size.
Wait staff is attentive & friendly.
Christie's is a tradition in a Texas seafood house. The fish is reliably fresh and the preparations are delicious. We particularly enjoy the fried shrimp and broiled snapper, flounder, and redfish. It is also usually quiet enough to actually have a conversation. A small thing...but their rolls are really delicious, crispy but not overly crunchy and served with a generous amount of butter. My only concern with our last visit was that the restaurant was not busy, but in spite of that, the wait staff insisted on promptly removing plates from those in our party who had finished their meals. Then all the other condiments and other items were removed. It left one elderly person at our table who was not finished feeling as though she needed to just quit enjoying her meal since she was the only one remaining with a plate of food. This is not a diner and they were not busy at all since it was lunch. To be fair, I have had this experience at other restaurants. It creates an awkward situation for all and is totally unnecessary, especially when business is slow.
Amazing long standing restaurant with great food - when traveling to Houston it will certainly be on my must eat at list - the whole Flounder was amazing and really good - I recommend it as well as their Gumbo
Dinner for 6. Our waitress had no personality. She also brought one wrong drink order and forgot a second. She also didn't check on us hardly at all during our meal.
The fried dishes we ordered were good and had good-sized servings; but, there were downfalls to the remainder of the orders. The Shrimp Oyster Fish - Greek style was very skimpy. Definitely not worth the money. And, the Cajun pasta with crawfish was bad. We couldn't even eat it. Something definitely was spoiled.
The men's restroom was out of order.
Seated promptly, greeted table side quickly, appetizer/drink order taken quickly. Drinks, rolls and appetizer came out timely as did our meals. The stuffed shrimp were a little mushy but still good. Portions were good. A second glass of wine took a bit to arrive. Server was polite and mostly efficient.
Shrimp was great. Steak was so so. The desserts were good
The BEST fried shrimp in Houston!!! Fabulous flavor & large in size !!! 2 bites of delight!
You can order 12 (not on menu).
Also the Greek salad is also one of the best in Houston.
Service is attentive- courteous- flawless.
They know what they are doing ... yes they have been around forever. So the customers are older crowd... but the do know great food. Try it.
Took my son here for a birthday lunch, and had a wonderful time. The food was great, and the service was exceptional. Really enjoyed our meal there.
Been coming on/off since the 1990's but this was the first time we came to dine during Houston Restaurant Weeks. So glad we did. The surf & turf and my trout was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the wines and let us taste test to help us decide between 2. Overall a very enjoyable evening.
Very respectful and friendly staff, food was terrific and presented in a well rolled out fashion
The food was not very well seasoned. Pretty bland for my husband and I’s liking. I’d just like to say that we ordered from the Houston Restaurant Week menu my husband got the mango stack which, in my opinion, was the best dish. I got the gumbo, yeah not somebody’s grandma gumbo, store bought probably but I mean who eats store bought gumbo. I got the seafood platter nothing different from Captain Ds my husband got the rainbow trout it was bland as well. I hope this helps someone else decipher through the list as to which restaurants are worth their taste buds and money!
The food was great
Christie's is a rarity in the dining world--an institution with a long history dedicated to excellence. From the white tablecloths to the comfortable booths, it feels like it's been around for a while. Service was attentive and prompt without being too intrusive. The food was delicious. The chocolate cake was truly decadent. We look forward to returning.
I had never been there and the others in my party had not been there in years. It was nicer than expected, but the food was not exceptional. It was good, and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We'll be back.
Just great “old school” food and ambience. Not a five star restaurant by any means however our service was excellent, food better than advertised and we’ll definitely be back. It was one of the Bush’s favorite restaurants and we even sat at H.W’s favorite table in the bar area.
The place has been around literally forever albeit not the same owners and locations but the original Greek influence still shines.
Perfection! 5 gold stars! I’d eat there every week if I lived in Houston! My blacked shrimp was THE BEST IVE EVER HAD!! My shrimp cocktail was divine! My husband loved his meal too ( he had fish)! What a gem this place is! 🥇🏆
First visit there in years and the menu is classic seafood! The interior needs a bit of freshening up.
My dinner partner ordered broiled Snapper Greek style and she was most pleased with it. I had stuffed shrimp which had a nice flavor although I probably should have had the entree baked a little longer.
All in all, my companion I were impressed with Christie's and will soon return!
SALADS WITH MAINS FAIR,GREENS FRESH THOUGH, calmari chewy, overcooked but marinara spicy and piquant, Crabmeat entrees fresh with excellent taste, grilled snapper very good but small. waitress not attentive or too visible
It was my birthday. I had table with 4 friends. We had drinks and appetizers, as well as add ins to our entrees. We were Never offered dessert or a dessert menu. Took a long time for waitstaff to return to table. Water refills were great but not much else. I ordered a lemon drop and it came with a salted rimm instead of sugar. Very surprised and when I told them I did not like it or expect it I was met with a stare and nothing more. Food quality was good. My $46 lobster thermidor was acceptable if not a bit chewy. Over all not worst birthday but not what I expected for a long time classic restaurant.
My husband and I always look forward to our dining experience at Christie's. Almost every Friday or Saturday night, we drive from Pearland to Westheimer to unwind from the week's stress. We wanted to share this experience with others, so we invited our cousin, her husband and our son. We enjoyed the ability to visit because the noise level is zero at Christie's. The waiter was very attentive and the quality of the food is off the charts. We've never had a bad experience at Christie's and we look forward to having many more dinners there.
We came before the dinner crowd. The service was awful. The waitress did not check back with us to see if we needed anything. When we finally saw her, asked for extra bread and refills, the waitress disappeared. We had to get the attention of another waiter. The food was bland and tasteless. If you like cafeteria or hospital food, then this is the place for you!
Was difficult to find a dairy-free option and the Remoulade sauce was terrible. The server was friendly and the Margaritas were good. Close to split decision on this one but would probably not go back.
Galveston ice tea was terrible
Outside if restaurant needs to be refurbished... inner decor is dated also.
Good crabs! Sirloin Steak was tasty, mushrooms unispired.
Server was attentive.
Its not hard to imagine why this restaurant is still in business for 100 years. Really great seafood and cajun dishes!
The food is excellent with lots of choices. Our server was good with a great attitude. It's a nice place for a special occasion with friends because you can hold a conversation without having to yell across the table. We've never been disappointed here.
Everything was awesome. Had a Birthday dinner for my aunts 70th Birthday. She was very pleased
Christie's is wonderful, old school dining. My first experience at Christie's was probably from a high chair. I am now 68 and still enjoy dining at Christie's. It is wonderful for family dinners or dinners for two. I am partial to their cold crisp house salad with delicious dressing before having stuffed shrimp or a perfectly cooked steak. It is Houston restaurant history at its best.
We’d never been & it seemed like a Houston institution so thought we’d try it. The wine list was brief but we found a nice wine to enjoy. The menu is varied & if I wasn’t trying to be be healthy I would have had more fun, lol. My hubby ordered the fried crab claws, which he adores & enjoyed them along with gumbo. I started with the shrimp cocktail, which I always enjoy. For dinner I ordered the Chargrilled Snapper “Greek style” with olive oil, lemon & herbs. It was nice. I had the Greek style green beans with it & they were tasty. Hubby had the Snapper Beluche (with mushrooms, green onions, shrimp & crabmeat in a cream sauce) & liked it a lot. All entrees come with your choice of salad as well. The menu is large, varied & had many delicious choices. We enjoyed it The Greek touches to some dishes is quite interesting. It does have the feel of a Galveston restaurant but makes sense because they started there. Crazy to know they began in 1917! It’s a great story you can read on the menu.
really enjoyed our dinner. good selections and good food. had a big group and we all were very pleased with our meal
Food and service are consistently fantastic and the noise level is low so patrons can actually have meaningful conversation
Had a very nice Father's day dinner w my family. Good food, service and value!
Good staple in Houston. Came from Father’s Day and had a great experience. Fried shrimp was delish!
poor quality of ingredients and execution of simple preparations. this restaurant uses institutionally available prepared frozen products rather than fresh products. garlic powder instead of fresh garlic, frozen dinner rolls, margarine instead of butter, microwaved baked potatoes, pre-breaded and frozen fish, etc.
Mother’s Day tradition. This is where my wife wants to go every opportunity she wants and Mother’s Day is a particular treat for her. It is a walk down memory lane Amy has had for decades and her mom as well. The food is always consistently great and Beyonce wonderful and the food especially delightful.
My husband used to come here with his grandmother when he was a kid. Now, we come when we get a chance. Easter was a perfect choice.
It was a little noisier than I expected, compared to the last time we were here.
Service was attentive. We started with the calamari, which was a little chewy, but we finished it all. Salads were nice and crisp, although I could have used just a tad more dressing.
I tried something new to me, the shrimp with lemon garlic sauce. It was quite good. Hubby had the Opelousas, which was fabulous. MIL enjoyed her fried shrimp. Son had the old fashioned platter, trying oysters for the first time. He didn't care for them, but his dad finished those. Daughter had chicken alfredo, and thought it was okay, but won't choose again.
All in all, a very good meal for a special occasion.
This ha s been my favorite restaurant since I moved to Houston in 1982. We eat there for special occasions. Last week it was my husband’s birthday
