Chops Ratings and Reviews
This was our third time at Chops and they are consistent! Last time we visited VA Beach, we went two nights in a row! I had the Crabcakes and my appetizer was the scallops. Both had a light texture with a robust cheesy flavor from the squash (scallops) and rice (crabcake). As a Marylander, I was pleased with the Crabcakes as well.
Ok so now the real review.... my fellow OpenTable homies. Did y'all see that we went THREE TIMES!?? We 👏🏼went 👏🏼three👏🏼 times! When your food is so good, you are WILLING to spend $200 per bill (party of 4), I ain't wasting time! I don't know what kind of crack they shimmied in those dishes to keep us coming back but it's an addiction (you know like Coca Cola used to do back in the day). As we were planning our trip we literally saved SPECIFICALLY to go to Chops: "clothes ✔️, toiletries ✔️, electronics ✔️, kids ✔️, $200 so we can go back to Chops ✔️"... really. Just go; you're in good hands.
Because of exceptional summer weather, we dined outside. We were able to have a conversation, so any music was at a non-interfering level. The waiter, Kyle, did a fantastic job with both service and interaction. The evening/meal was delightful. I am on a very restricted diet currently, and they were as accommodating as they were able to be for me.
The food was delicious. Between us, we had fried catfish, 8oz sirloin, pork chop, baked potato, and mashed. It is a very nice place, on the classier side for dress, (although some folks didn't get the memo.) My only complaint would be that the beer menu is limited
The food was great, ambiance was welcoming, but it was a little warm. The AC wasn't functioning well.
Service was great and our food was delicious. I had the crab cake with Mac and cheese and my boyfriend had the steak with mash. Both meals were beyond tasty!!
We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner but the manager we talked to told us he could not find our names. We were seated at an area that was close to the entrance and the ambience was not good. There were a few gnats flying around our table which was annoying and as soon as we sat at our table we noticed my table napkin was dirty/used. This place is a little pricey for what we got to be honest. Our server was nice though.
Wonderful meal! Thoroughly enjoyed filet mignon, server Gaston very friendly & professional. Celebrated our twins 14 birthday. My youngest ordered from kids menu - we were happy Chops offers a kids menu! I'm comparing to capital grille so that's why I give 4 stars not 5. The sides are $5 and are 1 person , not enough to share. So if you get a starch & veggie , add $10 to your meal. It was fine - I'm just noting it . I think we prefer a bit pricier but large portions of sides to share. Dessert was good but not excellent. But they brought ice cream w candle as an extra. Again - comparing to capital grille which brings a larger dessert sampler for birthdays. It was quiet at 8pm Thursday. We're not from Va beach but when we go back for vacation next year we will go again! Pricey but what you expect from premier steakhouse
We came here for our anniversary (and noted that in our Open Table reservation) on 4th of July. We were seated close to other people whose conversations we could hear, which is understandable, however the restaurant was not busy and had plenty of space. It felt like they were cramming people close together. Also, I get its Virginia Beach and a holiday but how is a tank top at a white table cloth dining establishment acceptable?
Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive for most of the dining experience. The time to get a cocktail and between courses was a little bit long but not totally unpleasant. The cuisine was excellent. We had the wedge (very good), flounder (excellent) and fried shrimp (excellent). The disappointment came when our server dropped dessert menus and then disappeared for 20 minutes. Not that we wouldn't pay for it or were expecting something but everything we have done open table on our anniversary the restaurant is attentive and brings us something that says Happy Anniversary. They said/brought nothing. Don't think we will come back given the other options around town.
Our server, Corey L., was polite, knowledgable, responsive, intuitive, and overall fantastic. 6pm on a saturday and we hardly noticed other diners although table placement could present a crowding. Staff is attentive, although slightly unnerving when the water busser silently reached across the table to refill our waters. (My personal opinion of disruptive). The restrooms need attention. :( Overall a fantastic experience. The steaks were perfectly served as ordered (one well done and the other medium rare) I found the food, service, and atmosphere to pair well with the expected price. After all, this is not a chain or party restaurant. We loved it.
We went to Chops for my husband's birthday, and also to entertain friends from out of town. This was our second time eating at Chops, and our first dining experience in October, which was for our anniversary, was much better than this one. The food and ambience was fine, but our server was not very attentive to our party. Once dinner was over, we were expecting to be asked about dessert, which we weren't, and a member of our party wanted to order another bottle of wine. Our server gave him the wine menu, but never returned to see what he wanted to order. And, we never did order dessert. Overall, the food was good; I'm vegan, so I had to get creative with pulling together my meal from the Sides section of the menu. I ordered the mushrooms, sautéed green beans and sweet potatoes, all of which tasted great and were very filling. The lackluster service was a huge disappointment (especially at this restaurant's price point), and won't soon be forgotten. Ruth's Chris has much more attentive staff than Chops at basically the same price point.
