Chophouse 47 – Steaks & Lobster Ratings and Reviews
As always, great food and service! Having read numerous other Open Table reviews, I find other reviewers also are offended by all the smoking and cigar smoking in the bar area. I believe Chophouse 47 would be WELL served to eliminate the nasty wafting of smoke into the dinning room! I would dine here more often if smoking were eliminated! Its a shame that a fine dinning restaurant these days still allows inside smoking!!
When I come up for the FSU vs. Clemson game, I always bring my clients to Chophouse 47. This was my 4th time and the 5th won't come soon enough unless you put a location in Tallahassee (you wouldn't have any competition). Don't ever take the banana cream pie off the menu :)
See you in 2 years.

Everything was great as always... however they allow smoking on the bar area and it was almost unbearable.... Never been to a restaurant where they allowing smoking period.... May decide to go somewhere else next time we want to eat at the bar.
Chophouse 47 used to be elecellent.
When we first walked in we smelled cleaning solution. Next we realized people were smoking at the bar. The smell of cigarette smoke permiatted the entire restuarant. The smell was so bad that we told our server we were leaving, at which time we were moved to a room farther from the bar. The smell was better, but not gone. When we returned to our car we realized our clothes smelled like smoke.
The service was the best part, but nothing to write home about.
My wife's filet had no flavor, and my bone in ribeye was good but not great.
Won't return. Too many other great places to eat in Greenville. Form this point forward I will compare eating at Chophouse to eating a good steak in a bowling alley.
Management indicated that they would have a particular liquor when I returned, and when I returned they did not have it this visit. They handled it very very poorly. They offered a lessor brand oppose to what they should have offered. I wanted a 14-year-old Scotch they did not have it they had a 18 year old scotch that I have been purchasing from the restaurant on each occasion. He offered a 12 year old-very disappointing.
Been a patron since 2011. I've noticed a horrible decline in quality of food and service since 2014. I previously ate monthly at Chophouse. Now since the decline in service perhaps once a year. Ate tonight at Rick Erwin's East Side. Last night at Stella's. Won't be back to 47 until I hear through the grapevine that quality has improved dramatically. Don't think they will be around for long at this rate.
I've been going to the Chophouse for years and for the first time was disappointed in the quality of service and the food. It took 45 minutes to get our steaks once the order was placed and my steak and my son's steak were overdone. The Cesar salad dressing was very bland and almost non-existent. With the variety of top notch steak houses around, there are many others I would pick before going back to the Chophouse.
When Chophouse 47 opened in Greenville in 2001 off of Pelham Road near the Michelin Tire Headquarters, it was unique as an upscale "big city" steakhouse. My friends and I went Sunday night for a social outing and really with an eye to getting away from the crowds that came in for the eclipse. The Greenville downtown has become one of the nation's best smaller cities since "47" opened. There are now at least 8 really great restaurants downtown and 4 upscale steakhouses right near the river in the city center. Unfortunately, "47" has not kept up. The menu lags behind and does not have the variety of Rick Erwin's, Hall's, Larkin's, or Ruth's Chris. The food was good, but they did not have the vegetable choices we preferred, nor did they have a simple Delmonico with center and deckle, unless you paid extra for the bone. Despite having a reservation, we were seated 10 feet from the open door to the kitchen. It's surprising that anyone in the main dining room can enjoy a good meal hearing all that noise. We asked for other seating options but the Hostess curtly replied, "We can't help that. It's the only table we have." No manager ever checked on us. As friends who get together occasionally, we wanted to catch up for a while before ordering. The server knew the menu fine, but interrupted our conversation and couldn't seem to understand that our priorities were to visit first and order later. I left unsure if I will ever go back.
While the service was great especially from our server, the overall experience was definitely lacking. The food was not worth the price especially when my wife's 12 oz Filet looked and tasted like a pot roast. It was initially undercooked and our server noticed and asked if my wife wanted to send it back to the kitchen. When it was brought back out it had the texture of being reheated in a microwave instead of broiled or placed back on a grill. The filet was extremely rough and dry with a bland tasteless flavor. My food was prepared well so I shared my steak with my wife as she does not like to complain. My wife also had an Old Fashioned, which she felt was over poured and after tasting it I have to agree that it was too strong. Will the overall experience was not bad it put a damper on our 3 year wedding anniversary and I'd have to say after ho the experience affected the night my wife and I wI'll probably not be dining at this restaurant again.
Expensive, but I was not paying so who cares! Filet was good, not the best I have ever had here. Appetizers were fantastic, oysters rockefeller and thick bacon. Sides were great, with grilled asparagus, cheesy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, wedge salad etc.
We have spent a lot of money over the years at the Chophouse, both personal meals, and business meals. Every time we come back, the platters get smaller. We had a party of 6 the other night, and order appetizers as well as entrees and desserts, with wine etc. There are now 4 shrimp as an appetizer, vs. 6. We ordered green beans and asparagus, there was 5 pieces of asparagus, and limited green beans. Steaks and chicken were good. Potatoes were good. Our cheesecake to go, with strawberries was stale. We through it out. Definitely not worth it. The butter cake was not a good value, $21. It was not great. Overall very disappointed, and will not go back.
