Wife and I were celebrating our 26th anniversary. We have been wanting to try Chop House for a while. The service was slow and the server didn’t check on us very often. Long waits between sitting and getting drinks and in between. My food had good flavor and was overall pretty good but it was lukewarm/room temp at best. My wife’s field peas were way under cooked and grits were bland. For the price charged we expected it to be better.
Steak was incredibly thin, flavorless, cold, and way overpriced.
Loved our meal, outstanding in every respect!! I am a foodie who knows great food, this went beyond my expectations and eating healthy food from the farm helps because I am very health conscious! Go and enjoy!!!
The ambience was relaxing, the service excellent and the food delicious. I had baked oysters on the half shell with garlic herb butter that were done and tasted just right. My Caesar salad was delicious and presentation unique. I also had seared scallops that were tender and moist and paired with small grit cakes that complimented them perfectly. My friend ordered the salmon entree which she said was also delicious. Very enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommend it.
Servers were very bad at the job, nice people, just genuinely not good. And some of the food was surprisingly low quality. Steak was good. Just other food items too cheap considering the high cost.
Our reservation was for 6PM Saturday 15 Feb 2020. Ordered our meal, wife ordered a cocktail. Steak brought out with no knives, server said she would bring the knives, waited 8-10 mins for knives. Server returned and asked if everything was OK with our food. Told her she said she would return with knives. Oh, she said and went to retrieve knives. Wife asked for another cocktail ($12.oo) per glass. Asked if bread, rolls or cornbread came with meal as I had been to this restaurant prior and was served bread with the meal. She returned with the bread and I asked for check. Wife told her to not bring other cocktail that was ordered, server had a quizzical look on her face which indicated that she had forgotten. At $12.00 a glass and knowing the profit margin on alcohol, I would be remembering to bring the extra drink. As being one of those individuals that tip on percentage of the total bill, this would have increased the servers tip. We did not order dessert as we were not sure if and when that would be delivered. The restaurant was not busy at this hour. The food was delicious even at room temperature.
Service was slow and waitress seemed like she would rather be anywhere but there. Short ribs were good but the New York was badly over seasoned. The cocktail I had was not good either. We went to Liam’s the same night for drinks and appetizers and everything was exceptional.
Food was good. Server was a little slow and had to flag her down several times to ask for stuff.
Very cozy and semi-rustic ambience. The scallops were delicious. Beautiful old building in historic part of town.
Waited an hour for drinks from bar. Week of Valentines Day and we saw 1 waitress, 1 hostess, 1 bartender. Extremely slow service. Disappointed at service. Although we were compensated with coupon for next visit, the coupon was not enough to bring us back.
This was for my 44th bday, my mom got there about 15 min before our reservation at 4:00pm to decorate our table for 10 and place the cake on the table.
We had great drinks, app’s, and our waitress was the sweetest and very attentive!
We order from the dinner menu at 5:00pm, everyone seemed satisfied with their order except one order was not right, but we brought it to the waitress attention and it was remade and the manager/owner brought out the new dish.
We finished eating dinner, about 2 hours later. I was Serenaded with Happy a Birthday , while I was cutting my cake.
As I finished cutting the 10 slices for my table, a gentleman behind our table asked for a piece of cake and I gave him and his wife a piece, as I was about to sit down, a lady walked over to look at my cake and complimented on how beautiful it was and asked who’s bday, I said mine, but it’s actually Tuesday, she smiles being because her bday is also Tuesday, so I cut her and husband a piece. A young lady was sitting across from us said hers was the 16th , and I gave her a slice.
The manager comes to me and says,” we don’t allow outside cakes, we are here to make money and you giving out pieces of cake is not acceptable”. I then tried to explain to her that when the reservation was made, I asked if I could bring in a cake and the person stated that wouldn’t be a problem, I then told her I was sorry, I didn’t know”. She then replied, very mean and short, with,”just stop , serving the cake, geesh!” And rudely walked away.
I then asked to speak with her, privately she would not let me get an word in edgewise wise. She stated that this policy is listed on the website, there was nothing. I begged her to listen, but she was just simply rude. She then stated, “I have guest to attend to, let me attend to MY guest” and she walked away. I thought I was a guest as well. We asked the waitress why she didn’t tell us, she stated she didn’t know of that rule. We were then charged a cake cutting fee.
We were so pleased with every aspect of this restaurant.
The service was great.
Great ambiance , perfect for our 54th Anniversary dinner!
The food is beyond believe for a small tucked away place in a small town.
By far the best rib eye steak we have ever eaten, including the Ritz and Benson’s in NYC years ago.
Perfection in every way.
The guitarist played wonderful music, maybe all French and it added so much to our dining experience.
I highly recommend the Chop House!!
Always enjoy a great dinner. Food was excellent and service was awesome. I really enjoyed the featured drink and the oysters were delicious. Great job
We live out of town but frequently eat in Thomasville because we enjoy all the different options they have.
We have been talking about checking Chop House out and finally went down Saturday night. We had a reservation for 8pm and we arrived approximately 7:50pm and were promptly seated at a high-top table in front of the bar. A very high-traffic area.
Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge us and bring a food menu. Several minutes later we were brought some water and the waitress moved on. After about 25 minutes we were finally able to order drinks. We went ahead and ordered our meal as well as service was extremely slow. It took about 20 minutes for us to receive our drink order from the bar. We received them about 2 minutes before our food arrived. My boyfriend ordered the aged ribeye and it was seared to a crisp. I had the filet and it was good, very tender.
After finishing our meal, we had to flag down another server to get our ticket so we could pay and leave.
This is by far the worst service I have ever had at a high-end restaurant. They prefer for you to make reservations but then were short-staffed to be able to handle the number of diners that had. We had such high hopes and were extremely disappointed in the service and meal we received.
We unfortunately will not be going back.
Unique upscale spot but overpriced. Server was good but she would disappear numerous times during the sitting. Been there a number of times in the past for business dinners and the kitchen appears to be extremely slow. Can be very aggravating when one sits at 6pm and the meal takes 3 hours to occur whether the customers want it too or not. Allow for a long evening and a big bill. nice venue though.
Restaurant was severely understaffed. We waited over 40 minutes for drinks from the bar. We had to go ask for them twice. Appetizer was forgotten about and came out after the main course.
We have went to this restaurant on numerous occasions. For the first few years it was and excellent place to go. However, over the last year or so things seemed to have changed with the service vs the cost of the food, which however remains of value. The management is the same, but seems to have went from a mid to higher end restaurant type of environment that is expected for the dollar amount of the menu, to having the same menu and cost to a lower end type of service expected and by even the owner herself. Get back to what you started with and what is expected in this type of restaurant.
Enjoyed a weekend in Thomasville Ga with dinner at the Chophouse. The lobster eggroll appetizer that we shared was delicious and plentiful, 2 full egg rolls. My husband enjoyed the short ribs and I enjoyed the black grouper. Fantastic service and wonderful live background music. Will definitely return.
We had a great time! Food was excellent as usual!!! Our waiter was Devin and he is an amazing asset to your business! We will come back as often as possible. We live 1 1:2 hour away and the trip is always worth it.
The food was fantastic!! Lobster egg rolls are out of this world! Filet is the best I’ve had in a long time and I loved the corn and potatoes as sides. My husband got the NY Strip and it was fabulous as well. Prickly Pear Margarita Martini is the best! Service was top notch. Music was a little loud and odd, but with the best food and service, we can look past that. Can’t wait to get back up there for another wonderful dinner!
1. Reservation time-honored ( arrived early and sat right away )
2. The server was attentive but had tables he assisted with all over the restaurant ( including bussing another server's table ) ... was sometimes not available for us and others he served...
3. Looking around the restaurant ( if the manager would have been visible I would have asked for them, but never saw them ) 75% of more of the guests wore their coats or sweaters, we asked to have the cool air discontinued or the heat turned on ( the server said the mgr would look into it ) ... never happened...
4. The entrees were a slower process than what was expected ( the server recognized and told us they should be out soon )
5. They did arrive, The grouper was served steaming hot ( good ) but, my pork chop was not ... it was warm(ish) but not cooked med well... maybe medium but not hot as it should.
6. Dessert was excellent ( Brookie ) as was the coffee ( serving piping hot )
Great food; great setting; worth the 45 min drive.
Our waitress did not accurately tell us what the soup was, which my mother in law ordered for her birthday lunch. Turned out, the kitchen had made a different kind of soup containing an ingredient my mother in law does not eat. Our server brought us the different kind of soup and we had to send it back. Also, we had a 5-year old in our party, and our server brought him a glass cup very full with water. We asked for a to-go cup instead. I just note this because at other places, the server usually give him a kids cup instead of us having to ask. All in all, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the food was good.
Wonderful food awesome waiter!!!
We arrived an hour early as we had seen all the Victorian Christmas street activities and we were getting a little cold. They could not seat us, even at the bar. They said they were full with reservations and walk-ins, but there were empty tables and booths. They said they would call us if they had an opening. We left and came back in 45 minutes and were seated immediately. On the menu, there were 3 and 5-course specials with wine, and hamburgers. The same things were on their menu on OpenTable and their local menu. I asked what the specials were and the waiter said they did not know, and that the chef prepared whatever he wanted to serve us. As is was an hour to closing, I suspect that it was whatever leftovers he had the most of. We asked for a glass of house Merlot. They had no Merlots. We then asked for a couple of hamburger baskets and what was on draft. They said that this was a special occasion and that they had pulled the hamburgers from the menu. We left and walked down the street to the Fish House where we had a great meal.
Enjoyed a dinner for two. Celebrated my husband’s birthday with a wonderful German chocolate cake.
The first two or three times I ate at The Chop House I really liked it. Thus I wanted to bring family members for a special occasion last weekend. The noise level was so loud it was hard to hear at times. Our waitress initially seemed to be right on top of things but that quickly changed. Another table in her section must have included friends of hers because she spent so much time there talking that it took almost 1 hour and 45 minutes from seating to payment. We told her at the outset we had another function to attend but she did not care apparently about our time constraints. One of our party ordered a medium rare steak that came out medium well. Had our waitress ever returned to check on us he would have sent the steak back. I ordered a second glass of wine but never received it. Because of time we could not linger over coffee and dessert as we had hoped. When it was time to pay our waitress again was gone into thin air. Finally the manager came over and took our money and brought back the bill folders. Overall it was a very unsatisfactory experience. I will probably not go back there again. The prices are too high not to have properly cooked food and great service.
Hands down the best meal! My husband and I will definitely be back! Anyone that comes to Thomasville should treat themselves to this jewel.
Maddeningly slooowww service!
Pricy but alwaya excellent. Great service, of course and definitely great food.
Food was acceptable, but the noise level was so high we couldn't have a conversation without yelling. If the like a lot of background noise, this is your place.
Great food and friendly staff. We will definitely be back!
Tremendous service, creative dinners, and love the atmosphere
You most certainly must make a reservation! There on a Sunday at 11:30; they were having to turn folks away by about 12:30! We were OK with the noise any full house can create b/c we asked for a booth (something we must do nowadays, being a group of ladies of certain age, you know!).
Took my wife there for our anniversary. The server was very knowledgeable, and the fun was amazing.
The sweet potato cheesecake was spectacular, but the appetizers and entree just ok. My filet was good but side dish and my daughter’s pasta dish were lukewarm. Nice atmosphere though.
Service was terrible! Food just so so. Disappointed.
Great Food and Great Staff!!! .
