Chop Steakhouse & Bar - Downtown Edmonton - 101 St Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was empty when we arrived. Received service right away. Everything was going great until after we ordered our meals. Took a long time to come and then was told 90 people arrived downstairs in bar so kitchen was backed up. Our meals arrived different from what we ordered. My chop salad arrived with no chicken on it. It was delivered 10 minutes later. Pricey for the plain food we received. House red was very good though.
Lunch experience was overall just okay. Before being seated we
Asked the attendant if it wouldn’t be a problem to get in and out over the lunch hour as we had to be back for a meeting. We were assured it would be no problem and just to let our waiter know - and we did. We placed our order inmediately but ended up waiting 45 minutes for our food to show up. Our waiter seemed to avoid any eye contact as at no point during this 45 minutes did he come by or even provide an opportunity to get a status update. We had to eat quickly which wasn’t an issue as we were all so hungry by then. Food was Okay - not bad but not great either. Only after others delivered the food did our server finally come by our table to ask if everything was ok. Bills and payment was quick at least but I would not recommend this restaurant unless you have all the time.
A nice downtown eating place and one of the few good eating places open for lunch on a Saturday. It was confusing at first - we came in on the street level for a reservation - not realizing that the dining area was on the second floor - the lounge was on the main floor. Meal was nicely done and our server was great.
A restaurant, this size, with 2 levels - NOT a good idea!! Love the food, but won't be back to this location unless we sit at the bar downstairs. Our table of 8 people were tucked away in the farthest back corner of the dining area, on the second floor, on a night when we were the ONLY table in the dining area, and the lounge was quite slow. All of our drinks and meals had to be hiked up to the second floor by our waiter, who had only been on the job for a week. The fact that the poor guy had to walk the stairs SO MANY TIMES created long wait times for drinks and food. 1 meal was completely missed, and the other 7 of us were finished eating by the time it arrived, the french fries were cold and the ribs were room temperature - I think all because it takes TOO long to make the trip to the second floor. NOT an enjoyable dinner, and to finish it all off, the waiter could not get the bills sorted out for each of the 4 couples, and after 15 minutes of trying to figure that out, we just paid whatever was on the bills he created...and went on our way...we couldn't invest any more effort.
Usually I've been very satisfied with Chop, but this experience was less than satisfactory. We sat down and ordered drinks and appetizers right away as we had tickets to the Oilers game. After 40 minutes we asked where the appetizers were, and there was no response. We ended up getting our meal and appetizers all at the same time. This was a business meeting and I was apologizing all night as it was my recommendation to go there since it is good food. The server was more interested in telling us what he likes to eat and his life story, than listen and take our order as it didn't come out correctly at all. Food items were missed and 2 out of 4 steaks were quite over cooked. Like I said, I have always head Chop in a high regard, but this experience wasn't great.
We have been at Chop a few times before and it has always been good. This time we had a reservation for 6:45 p.m. and had to wait until 7:20 to be seated. Typically would not be a problem but for the fact we had Oilers' tickets and an 8:00 p.m. start time, which we were late for. The kitchen was overwhelmed and apparently unprepared and the food was okay as a result, but not great. Our waiter was very nice and tried his best to get us out the door as quickly as possible. Overall just an okay experience.
We came on an Oilers game night, so it was very busy, but still fantastic. The food was terrific.
We got steak and lobster, and sirloin oscar-and they were unbelievable! Steak cooked perfect and loved the crispy onion straws with Bernadine sauce...what a delight. A perfect plate.
Better than the keg which is a comparable restaurant for value, etc. We will come back for sure, because the food was so good. 1 minute walk to Rogers place too!
Went with 4 of my friends. The food was pretty good. We had steak, ribs, chicken with mashed potatoes. The steaks were really small and the mashed potatoes were very dry but everything else was delicious! Our server was really awkward.. He kept mentioning how much he was sweating and mentioned a few times that he just needed to go home. We felt bad for him but at the same time those are really unnecessary comments to be making to customers. It was really uncomfortable whenever he came by.
At first we weren't sure about being upstairs away from the main lounge area but ended up appreciating the fact that we could actually hear each other. Our group age range was 26 to 31 years and we all felt that the music downstairs was too loud for dining.
Having said that, we all enjoyed the food, the service and the dining experience.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Chops. We have been here before & found the staff to be very helpful.
We were going to a concert at Rogers & our server made sure everything was prompt & she wished us a good evening at the end of our meal. She was helpful telling us about the specials.
We enjoyed our visit. We will be back.
We went to Chop for our anniversary! We had a reservation but got there early and they were able to seat us then and still make sure that our "request" for a quiet table was met even though we went on an Oilers game night! Our steaks were amazing! Cooked exactly how we wanted even the wine selection was good! Our server was very nice and prompt and the manager made sure everything was good for me because I have a food allergy! We even got an anniversary card from the staff! Definitely going back sometime!
Took 10min. for the hostess to show up at the desk to seat us. And she only came up because i went down to the bar to ask if anyone was working. Took another 1hr and a half to get our food and when it arrived the portions were small. Food tasted good but the wait was not worth it. Will never go back
Great Sirloin Oscar but really lost interest in my sad looking baked potato with no fixings. The young man who dropped off our food told me that there isn't any sides that go with my baked potato, I quickly reminded him that the bake potato comes with sour cream, green onion and bacon bits. Then the young man realized what he missed and took 8 mins to return to the table with my sides by this time I already changed my side order with my server due to the lack of interest in a very sad looking bare bake potato.
Presentation is the Key to the Perfect Dish!
We were there to celebrate a bachelor party. Right off the bat we were told our reserved table was really close to another party and it would probably be too loud to sit upstairs so we'd be better off downstairs. The waitress and bar staff, while friendly, took forever to get drinks and wouldn't return to the table for refills for quite a while. It pretty much got to the point where we were ordering the next round as fresh drinks were being dropped off cause we didn't know when she would be back. Did I mention the restaurant was almost completely empty apart from a few tables. Had service been even average we probably would have spent at least another $200-300 in drinks and shots. The food was brought out timely but there was utter confusion as to whose plates were whose and by the time that was sorted, the food was all cold. Steaks weren't cooked to the doneness they were ordered in either. Did I mention we were only a party of 7? The rice tasted like the uncle bens microwavables and the gravy was clearly made from powder. For a $43 meal, disappointed would be an understatement especially when you can pay $30-35 at Earls or The Keg and get fresh, in house made meals. In the words of one of the members of our party "I don't complain, I just never go back" and I can tell you barring some miraculous save, we won't be. I think the writing is on the wall for this CHOP location as Joeys was jammed across the street and we all talked about how we made the wrong decision in dinner venue for the evening.
My first time at Chop for lunch. I anticipated this meal to be as good as all of the dinners I've eaten there, however, the Pulled Chicken Club was extremely dry and difficult to eat (had to sip water with every bite to get it down). The wasabi mashed potatoes were amazing as always (the main reason I love Chop!). I'll definitely go back but I think I'll stick to dinner time only.
This was a last minute meal out but the restaurant was very quiet compared to previous visits. Our server was attentive and efficient, everyone's food was well prepared and tasty. My friend and I enjoyed the mini dessert offerings as we were too full for a large dessert.
We chose the Chop for a pre-concert meal. The location is very close to Roger's and worked well with a wheelchair. We did have to wait for a hostess to grab a card key for the elevator to the second level for our reserved table.... that's a little awkward. The staff was friendly, helpful and knew the menu. There were Gluten Free options for myself that didn't just lead to a salad and protein like some other restaurants.
Our main problem was that the salad entree did not have true field greens, came twice with chicken instead of steak, the goat cheese was in a glump and there was not enough dressing. My steak was cooked perfectly, but was only warm when it arrived at the table.
The staff was quick to solve the the salad issue, but we were out of time to deal with the steak. All in all not a bad meal... but this is the second time we have had problems at the Chop. I don't know if we will try for a third time.....
