We were excited to go here but the service was not very good. Our waiter told us he was tired and looked miserable (which I totally get). Unfortunately it was reflected in service. We tried helping by stacking our used plates and things like that. But he would leave them there and just bring our next course. Then he brought us the check and never asked if we wanted dessert. We told him hey we want to try to dessert. He brought us dessert and we had no where to eat it at the table because there were stacks of old entree plates and appetizer plates.
We’ve missed dining at Cholanad. Our return trio was very satisfactory. The distancing and ventilation were excellent, and the service was very attentive. The food was what we remembered, an we love. We’ll be back soon.
Short staffed. Waited an hour after ordering.
My first time & I will definitely be back. A more nuanced taste in the food than what I have eaten in other Indian restaurants. I really liked it!
We had a wonderful experience. Food was amazing
Amazing authentic food and great service!
Everything was amazing! Will definitely visit again!
Great place we have been many times and will continue to go to.
The food was above the ordinary Indian fare with a great flavor profile. My gripe is really the price point for lunch. There is no lunch or brunch menu and everything is ala carte. Three people split one appetizer and each had an entree. With good tip came to 76 $ way too much for lunch.
the food was very good , we were alone in a big room opened to the outside , like garage doors opened, I would definitely say this is fine Indian cuisine with a specialty of South India , which I love.
Service was slow, but it was Father's Day and they were slammed. The food was delicious, and worth waiting for!
We were a party of 6 out of towners visiting Raleigh area. We went here based on a friend’s recommendation. We were amazed by the menu selection, quality and service! Authentic home made taste. Very personable owner and his nephew who made us feel at home, and gave us free advice on the real estate around here, as we were here on a scouting mission.
A must go place. Will return here anytime we come back to this area
Service was very poor. It took over an hour to get the food.
Food - tapas portions
Authentic labeling was questionable
Excellent variety of different flavors. Many choices for Gluten Free. Great service.
We had a graduation lunch for my daughter. Every item we ordered was exceptional. The five of us cleared every plate. Two appetizers, five entrees and bread. Tis might have been the best Indian we have ever eaten, and we have eaten a LOT of Indian before!
Great food and experience. Glad they are in the new location. We will be back often.
Great food but terrible service. I was wondering why so many people recommended this restaurant but it only had around a 4.1 star rating on Google. The food here is unparalleled and may be the best Indian food you can get in the Triangle. However, this restaurant seemed severely understaffed and we had to wait over 20 minutes for our drink orders. Over the course of a (pretty spicy) meal we also only had our water cups refilled one time but only after flagging down a waiter. Food was 10/10 but consider hiring more wait staff to ensure the dining experience is better.
Food was good but our main dishes were all barely warm and the service was friendly but very slow
Awesome food amd service
Great food and variety of dishes. Nice inside and outside seating options
Excellent food. Friendly service. Lots of vegan and veg options.
Cocktails used stock mixer add-ons and were not very strong.
Fantastic Indian food in the heart of Franklin St. Great service, great food, great location.
Great food and drinks! Highly recommend.
We were surprised and saddened to find Cholanad had moved next door into the old Mellow Mushroom. We both preferred the old location and the ambiance it had. The new location has some nice perks with the patio area, but it certainly lost some of the charm the other building had. It has been years since we dined here and it seems the menu has grown. I think it would be better to pare it down and simplify. It was overwhelming to try and choose and large menus generally signify there is less attention to detail in the food. The food itself was good, but it didn’t wow us like it did years ago. Overall, the experience was good, but probably not enough to draw us back again for a long time.
Great new location. Same amazing food.
Food is delicious and new space with covered outdoor seating is great.
Cholanad has moved to the building where the Mellow Mushroom used to be, and they certainly have benefitted from the move. The new locale is perfect for outside and pseudo-outside dining during COVID. The excellent cuisine has not changed.
The food and service was great - prices reasonable. Had Indian food in England and Europe and to find this authenticity in NC was great....
The best Indian restaurant in the triangle region. By far!
Visited for the first time in a year since the pandemic. Wait staff wear masks and tables were six feet apart. Food of course was good!
Great food and service. However, the "outdoor" seating option is not really as outdoors as one would expect. It is more like an enclosed patio.
The food and service is always excellent. Can’t wait to go back.
We waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our order and then about 45 minutes for the food to come out. The excuse was it is a difficult dish to prepare?
The food was terrific. I got chicken curry and my date got chicken tikka masala, both at a spice of 3/5. We both like spicy and thought it was perfect at 3. The garlic na’an was yummy, too. The service left a bit to be desired but we weren’t in a hurry so it didn’t bother us. We will definitely return soon.
Great food and personal attention from manager was great. But waitress was disinterested , slow and constantly texting on her cell phone - not paying attention to our table.
Bright lights and low occupancy in the restaurant made us feel more like we were in a fast food joint with wait staff.
Food was excellent - but overall dining out experience only so-so.
Wonderful atmosphere, service was very prompt. The best South Indian Food in the Triangle area. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone that's want try true authentic South Indian Food. We will be returning soon.
This was your first visit to Cholanad and it was a Valentine dinner, our first as well. The atmosphere was great. Romantic, spaced out, and felt very safe. The menu was laid out well and the food was out of this world. The staff was very attentive and even the manager came over and spent some time with us. Would highly recommend for a date night.
The best Indian food anywhere in the Triangle. Fantastic for a date night.
