We are offering dad our house-smoked pork with our own chocolate bbq sauce as a taco in handmade tortillas, or as a lunchplate with two sauces and potato pie. We will also be offering our house-smoked salmon crepes. Try either with a pint of IPA , a glass of ZIn, or our own honey-ginger lemonade.

Amazing, creative use of chocolate in everything from the Chicken Mole to a white chocolate gravy on the chicken pie. Eclectic decor, attentive wait staff, a moderately-priced wine list and a dessert menu fitting of a restaurant with the word "Chocolate" in the name made for a wonderful time.
They offer several lunch entrees that are reasonably priced however, according to my wife and mother-in-law, "go straight to the desserts".
We came for mother's day lunch and the restaurant made the experience so tasty and enjoyable. They sat us a little early even though the kitchen wasn't technically open yet, which was helpful because we had two small kids. They had mimosas! Not sure if it was for the holiday or always, but that was a nice touch. All the food tasted fresh and house made. I tried bites of the garlic cheese pot, chicken mole, quiche, chicken soup, and a chicken bacon sandwich--all delicious!
Only went for dessert. Service was great except for the wait for food to be delivered. Much too long of a wait for dessert. Quality of food was excellent.
Enjoyed the menu and options available and of course, the chocolate desserts are a must. Unfortunately, a disagreeable waiter spoiled the luncheon.
A little too noisy! I had the roast pork in chocolate BBQ sauce. It was very good. A few more vegetables on the plate would have been nice.
The chocolate ganache cake was excellent.
How amazing! Great selection of wine, entrees and desserts! Best chicken parmigiana. And the sesame ginger salamon was over the top delicious. And then, the truffles... they are mouth watering.
My husband, I, and a mutual friend royally enjoyed the Ginger Salmon dish which was so very tasty that we would come back for more. The atmosphere was beautiful and the waitress was very attentive. Thank you!
The outdoor setting was very cute and the service was great!! My husband had the poblano mole & I had the salmon. They were both ok. For dessert we had the iced Sophia. It would have been better eaten with a spoon. It had the consistency of chocolate pudding rather than a drink.
Restaurant was great; all the problems were with Open Table (our request for Outdoor seating apparently did not go through, so HUGE hassle when we arrived and no outdoor seating available!! Manager was very gracious and tried to accommodate, although we had to move tables in the middle of our visist...). Wish my mom could have just called the restaurant directly for a reservation (she's not so good at online). Hassle for me to have to go online, then not even have the reservation gotten right!
Restaurant = 5, Open Table = 0
Better and more dinner options. The price is too high for the meals specially for iceberg lettuce salads.
We took our family to the restaurant. The waitress was very helpful in showing us gluten-free and dairy-free options for family members who had these food limitations. The food was very good and the chocolate drinks were delicious.
Good service. Accoommadating. Would definitely return.
Great food & extensive dessert menu!
A wonderful meal. Chocolate is a go-to restaurant which is consistently tasty in terms of food. The cheese pot was wonderful. My partner and I both got full meals, and left full. Don't forget to leave room for dessert! We had the truffles which are always wonderful. A great place for meat eaters and vegetarians alike.
Good unique food choices and great hot chocolate options
Went there for Valentine’s Day and were completely ignored for the first 20 minutes. We ordered the Valentine’s Day special which included appetizer, dinner and dessert and champagne with each. While still enjoying our appetizer and champagne, which were both good, the waitress brought the main course and set it on the side because we were only half done with our appetizer and told me to “drink up” my champagne because she needed to bring the champagne that went with my dinner. Dinner was already kind of cold so we started eating it even though we weren’t ready. We got duck that was completely over cooked and charred. Our friend got pork that was also over cooked and tasted a bit like chewing on rope. We have eaten at Chocolate a handful of times and the food and service has been good. For whatever reason for this dinner special it was really terrible and definitely not worth the price.
I love chocolate. It has been a go to for my fiance and I. The food is always amazing and we love the wine selection. So of course we decided to dine there for Valentine's day. Everything was great with the exception of the service. It wasn't necessarily horrible but it wasn't great either. I felt very much rushed through my dinner which I didn't appreciate. I get that Valentine's day gets busy but I made this reservation a month in advance. My fiance and i dont get to do this very often, it is very much a treat for us. I hope next time our server will be more gracious and allow us to enjoy our meal instead of rushing us through it.
We had a lot of fun! The only thing we found disappointing is that our server kept telling us that our table was reserved at 8 even though our reservation was at 6:45, even though there was nothing we could do about the speed of service. I feel like we were rushed out of the restaurant even though the service was rather slow.
Very nice made me feel so contactable. First time for my wife and i. Yes would love to go again. Both food and service was very good.
Valentine's Day special: $95 per couple, including glasses of 3 kinds of bubbly. Fine antipasto, half a roast duck a la orange, fine roast brussels sprouts, and wild rice. One might think Chocolat is a dessert place. It didn't disappoint - with a selection of brown treats.
Outstanding meal and presentation. We came for a special Valentines Day serving and had one of the best dinners we have eaten in Santa Cruz. Thanks Chocolates! Well done!
Great server.....amazed me by giving me a first timer at this restaurants -- thanks to Open Table -- a delicious chocolate bonbon!!
* When you make your reservation thru OpenTable for a Saturday night, it's for the small outdoor seating area only, not inside. Fortunately, the hostess was able to get us a table inside.
This is more of cafe style food, not fine dining. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but drowned in a thick sweet sauce that was difficult to escape. The Chicken Pot Pie was dry (they advise you of this on the menu). Our bottle of pinot grigio was below average quality.
The chocolate desserts and gelato were fantastic. Would go back for dessert.
Service was slow and food was average. Not my best experience. We ate in the bar area and it was cluttered. The best dish was the sausage but presentation was poor.
My husband and I came here for the first time on 1/13/18; we really enjoyed our experience and the meal - especially the dessert! I love the dessert menu, I had the Lena hot chocolate and we shared 2 different gelatos. The occasion was really just to have a special weekend for ourselves, in anticipation of our first baby, due to arrive in a few months!
Service was good, food was awesome. We started with the warm Roasted Garlic & Cheese Pot. Delicious! Then we moved on to the Chicken Mole & the Spicy Chocolate Bbq Roast Pork. Flavors were rich and bold. Only regret, we were too full for desert. We'll be back.
The food at Chocolate is always good - it's a relatively short bistro-style menu for lunch or dinner, and everything on it is good. They also have daily specials.
Where they really shine is, as you might expect from the name, their hot chocolates (7 or 8 varieties) and their desserts - all excellent and delectable, with something for every taste. Fun décor. And if the weather is nice, their outdoor dining area is great for al fresco eating and people watching, with radiant heaters to stretch the outdoor dining season a bit.
It's not the cheapest restaurant in town, but the quality is excellent. We've never been disappointed.
Chocolate is a unique local restaurant with excellent food and service. My wife chose it for her birthday dinner this year and it is one of our favorite spots for special occasions. Be sure to try a hot chocolate drink.
This is a good place to go for date night. I went before a movie that started at 8:30, arrived at Chocolate at 7:15 and I was seated right away. Appetizer arrived around 7:30 and our meal around 7:45. All the food was good, ambience was nice.
Everything about the restaurant is great. We were six people and each had a different main course. A few appetizers were shared. Our meals ran the gamut from salads to salmon, chicken pot pie and pasta. Every dish was delicious and tastes were passed around. The desserts, which not all of us were able to eat after the generous portions of food, were outstanding. And to top it off, we took home some of the outstanding truffles.
Terrible food all the time. Ok, salads and bread are good. I'd give them 4 stars if they'd ditch the menu and solely serve dessert and hot chocolate. Definitely go for that, nothing else!!
Food was mediocre. Will not be back.
Best hot chocolate I've had on the West Coast; salmon special was moist & tasty; sausage plate was good tho the peppers & onions were on the sweet side. Shares restrooms with the great bookstore next door (your dining companion may take awhile to return).
Love this place! One of my favorite spots in DT SC!
Lunch was good but we were disappointed with the desserts.
Our meal was excellent and we ordered take out the next day to try some other items on the menu that we didn't order the first night. The Coconut Cheesecake was excellent.
Always great tasty food and fabulous desserts...and friendly efficient service....thanks Chocolate!
This was my first time to Chocolate even though I live here! We went during Santa Cruz "Restaurant Week" specifically to experience a restaurant that we'd never been to in town. The Restaurants participating provide Pre Fixe meals for a reasonable price. The meals were just beautifully presented and the flavors were exotic and oh so yummy! Instead of chatting about what we did earlier in the day, we chatted entirely about the food and how amazing it was. The service was unobtrusive but "spot on" with refills and plate removal. Our server was knowledgeable , engaging and obviously loved her job. We so enjoyed sitting outside to eat and felt as though it was Paris along the Champs -Elysees!
