Great food. Really nice service. Hot chocolate was best we’ve had! The French cheese wheel was super tasty too!

the food is amazing here! They have a cute patio for outdoor seating and they welcome dogs. The service is wonderful. Lots of gluten-free options! And the chocolate is delicious. We come here every time we come to Santa Cruz.

It was so beautiful and yummy food! The service was professional and over the top, as they went out of their way to make sure we had just what we needed! It was my birthday and they surprised us with a beautiful song and dessert!

I almost forgot this little gem in downtown Santa Cruz! It was so nice sitting on the patio and the menu is extensive! It was a Mother/daughter day and we enjoyed chocolate everything! We’ll definitely return to enjoy more selections as this place is great for any occasion! Thanks Chocolate!

We enjoy the choices on the menu. We enjoy the seating outside, but we decided to sit inside this evening. The corner we were in was stuffy and one person in our party had problems with the intense cooking aromas that settled in this corner. Our servings consisted of the entre we ordered on one side of the plate and a salad that filled the rest of the plate.

I came here for the dessert which was amazing as was the Fuego hot chocolate. However, dinner was very expensive for the amount of food received and was just okay. $20 for chicken parmagian with a side of basically lettuce, $15 for a salmon salad, one piece of salmon on a bed of spinach. Additionally, I thought they had a bar with chocolate drinks, however, they only serve beer and wine and not even any chocolate flavorings. They have a wonderful pomegranate wine, however, you can only receive a small sample with the adult misbehavior dessert, you can't purchase it separately.
Disappointing

Yvette, thank you for coming to Chocolate. Our Chicken Parmesan Dinner normally comes with Caesar salad with toasted walnuts tossed in our our house-made caesar dressing. I hope that was the case. Not just lettuce. The Salmon Salad you mention is supposed to come with a generous portion of sundried tomatoes, our house-pickled organic cucumbers, balsamic onions, & toasted pistachios. By early June, our cocktail license should be activated. Please come back and try us then. Thank you again.

My husband and I went to Chocolate for Burger Week. The burger was unique in that it had pepper jelly and a pork patty. The veggie sandwich was fresh and came with a large side salad. The service was quick for a weekday meal, and the waitress was attentive. We have been to Chocolate multiple times, and it is always a positive experience. We only wished we had more time for dessert!

Ambiance is lovely; warm, eclectic and romantic. Food is not great, and certainly overpriced if you are going to be splurging on going out to eat for dinner. My salmon salad was essentially a pile of spinach with a cold overly-smoked salmon on top and some pistachios. My boyfriends quiche was better but not extra-ordinary. The two things I love about this restaurant are the ambiance; love the irregular decor and cozy vibe, and the HOT CHOCOLATE, which is to die for! I will not be eating dinner here again, but will certainly stop by for dessert.

From pictures, it appeared as though the outdoor seating would have multiple heaters, but when we got there, I could only see one (fairly small) in the middle of the patio. It was very cold out as there was a storm the day prior. We asked to sit closer to the fire because I had made a reservation but the hostess told us it was for reservation only. I don't think she understood what I was trying to explain but I told her I booked online and had a reservation. No one came out to check on us in terms of our seating arrangements and no one tried to accommodate us. The food didn't taste very food and wasn't worth the price - the only thing I would go back for is the dessert. The place is called Chocolate, so that's obviously their specialty.
FOR THE NEXT CUSTOMER - If sitting outside when it's cold, make sure you request a seat next to the fire or bring extra coats! It's not comfortable without.

Hello ShaunS. I'm sorry we did not have a comfortable table for you outside . Our overhead electric heaters should have been turned on for you, in addition to the fire. It must have been very cold outside that night. Normally our customers are comfortable on our patio. Bringing warm clothes as you suggested for sitting outside is a very good idea. Please try us again when it is warmer.

While everyone was very pleasant, our food took a long time to come out, especially dessert, and we weren't checked on for the most part. The roasted chicken pie was mostly potatoes, the dark chocolate orange BBQed pork on turnip puree was good, the flourless chocolate cake was more gluten free (made w/almond flour) than flourless & not nery good. The pasta rosettes were average. The hot chocolate Sofia & hazelnut chocolate milk were excellent. The restaurant is quite small and decor very eclectic - on the dark side. It did not appeal to our 20 something kids at all.

I chose this restaurant because it had lots of gluten-free options for my girlfriend. It turned out I enjoyed the gluten-free food as well it was really tasty was definitely impressed with the night and selections for her. The gluten free bread loaf was amazing and I normally don't care for gf breads. Going back on our next trip the Santa Cruz

We enjoyed dinner on their patio, watching people walking along Pacific Avenue. The chicken pie was wonderful and the pulled pork appetizer was just spicy enough. A dessert of chocolate mud pie capped the meal with just enough sweetness. The spinach & mushroom salad was disappointing. The dish had no imagination and the mushroom strips were tough and hard to cut. With such delightful desserts it would be a wonderful place after an evening on the town.

Surprisingly diverse dinner menu, not just chocolate hot and cold. We visited during Santa Cruz Restaurant week - don’t know if this affected the menu. My mahi-mahi was perfectly cooked with an amazing sauce and roasted vegetables. Dessert was a creative and delicious cake infused w rose essence, candied orange in the cream filling and, of course, chocolate glaze. My husband’s chicken soup was flavorful, filled with chunks of chicken and vegetables - a meal in a bowl. His brillat savarin cheese was perfection and beautifully served. Paired with a glass of Pinot noir, sitting out on the patio on a fair night, we had a wonderful evening.

Restaurant week meal:
The green beans were not fresh in this meal, and wasn't crazy about the salad dressing, but had a nice piece of Mahi Mahi, and rich desserts for restaurant week. Eggplant appetizer was too rich/salty.
My usual favorite on the menu is the mushroom soup. Good bread and dipping vinegar's.

So we came here again this year for Restaurant Week because the food is so interesting and delicious. And if you like chocolate desserts, this is your place, any time of the year!

I would have upped the score but our waitress aWas rather hopeless. She kept the water coming but didn’t turn in our order then got it wrong. Her supervisor kept rescuing things and we weren’t in a hurry, so it all worked out. The pasta rosettes are the best thing on the menu that isn’t chocolate.

Chocolate is a go to during Santa Cruz Restaurant Week. The menu has great offerings at an affordable price and in the past it has been our favorite place for Restaurant Week. That did not happen this year. Unfortunately they ran out of one of the dishes by 6:30, though they were quick to offer a substitute dish. Twice they brought me the wrong order, and though I corrected it for the appetizer, I didn't correct the dessert since it took a long time to get my replacement appetizer. The mud pie was melted and runny, and we were charged for 3 glasses of wine and we only had 2. There were not enough servers to support the amount of tables that were seated.
