The staff was amazing, very attentive and helpful!
We were seated right away and the restaurant was the perfect location for dinner before a show at the Kodak. But the sushi was very mediocre—no better than you would find at a grocery store. Tempura and gyoza were fine, and there was a wide range of cocktails to choose from. Probably best for drinks and small bites.
Located on top level of Hollywood Highland with excellent view, this restaurant is a wonderful celebration of Japanese art, culture and food.
Every item on display here is for sale - from kimonos and statues to bottles of saki, flowers and baskets.
As evidenced by an 8 page menu, there is a wide variety of food, including soup, salads, sashimi, baked Sushi, shabu shabu, tempura and California rolls.
Sushi here is fresh, as are California rolls; tempura is lightly battered with fresh vegetables and shrimp. Miso soup didn't have good taste, but had good aroma and texture.
Service here was okay. Server forgot what we ordered, and was a little slow; it was pretty slow when we arrived, so no need for delay. But, food was worth wait.
I am interested in returning to try shabu shabu.
The food is not so well, we had a Shabu Shabu, actually it comes with noodles but the waiter did not notify us and let us order one more noodles.
Exceptional service! Had a party of 7 that was very well taken care of! Love the experience of shabu shabu is always fun and delicious. Sharing broth with one other person I suggest a combo full size or one meat truck size if your trying to feel way too full. Add those shabu sides while your at it and apps will be an overkill. Enjoy.
Enjoyed the ambiance for adult conversation. The food and drinks were good.
We were on a family vacation, the location is great. However, the food quality was somewhat below my expectation.
The food was fantastic, atmosphere good, and staff was amazing. However, during our vistit, there was another group of 6 that came in right behind us with no reservation. They were rude, starting with, walking around everyone waiting in line and demanding a table to be sat at immediately. The hostess did not accommodate their immediate request, all the while being polite, and continued to seat those of us that were there with reservations. This outraged the other group. They then began walking around the restraunt, checking tables, yelling at staff, hovering over tables, etc, including the table we were sat at, saying "that should have been their table" and wouldn't move away as we were ordering and then trying to enjoy our meal. When I spoke to the manager about how completely rude these folks were to his staff and to other patrons, he "shushed" me as to not upset the group further. He was more concerned about whoever these people were than his staff or the other customers. Quite frankly, they should have been asked to leave. No one should behave so entitled. Very disapppointing. They disrupted the entire restaurant and the manager allowed it. Having said that, this was an isolated event and I'm sure doesn't happen often. However, the managers complete lack of concern for how his staff was being treated was disppointing.
Unfortunately out of uni. Soft shell crab roll was delicious. Fresh sushi!
I was disappointed in the total lack of service. Our server never came to the table to check up on us and we had to flag down someone else to get our server to come to us when we needed something. I thought the food was nothing special and I didn't think it was worth the total bill. I will not be returning.
Excellent food, service and experience! No complaints!
Food was just OK. The atmosphere was pretty nice tho.
This place is awesome! Would definitely recommenced to all
Bon accueil et repas de bon goût
It met the need and want...nothing special about it
We picked this restaurant because we needed a quick dinner prior to a show at the adjacent Dolby Theater. The meal was a complete disappointment in every respect. We sat outdoors and quickly found ourselves crowded out by the groups of tourists milling about and looking at the menu. The service was fairly slow with our server seeming overwhelmed with many tables. Worst of all, the food was fair at best. The miso soup was literally cold but we couldn't find the server and were pressed for time so didn't try to send it back. The sushi rolls were about the same as you'd get at any order-at-the-counter Japanese fast food place in a mall. My Katsu Don main course was edible but not much more. The only condiment on the table was watery soy sauce so there was no spicing things up.
Will never go back to this restaurant. I can see now why it seems to be filled with tourists and no locals. It's a shame the Hollywood & Highland complex can't come up with some better dining options.
Food was fresh and nicely seasoned we had rolls. The waiter had too many tables he was slow
Reserved through Open table but they did not give me my points. They said only the boss can do it and he was not there. Most of the staff did not speak English, making communication challenging. The miso soup was mediocre. The rolls were ok. Not going back!
The food was awesome and the atmosphere was okay. The table wad a little stickey like it wasnt wiped properly. The bathrooms were also a little dirty.
The table and bathroom floors all felt sticky and dirty. I didn't think it was a clean restaurant, which is especially yucky with raw seafood. We chose to eat cooked seafood instead. Even though the restaurant was almost empty and there were at least 2 waiters, we saw our dishes pile up on the kitchen counter and waited a long time for the waiter to deliver them to us. Too bad, because it's a convenient location.
With the restaurant half full we were amazed how long it took for our food - not cooked since it gets cooked at the Shabu-shabu table - to be brought out to the table when the server realizes they prepared the wrong portion. Wait staff was frazzled and apologetic from the kitchen delays.
So good I was changed forever!
The venue is a lovely location especially being on the top level of the hollywood and highland center. The food was super tasty and the variety of options is fabulous. Perfect place for a meal before an event in the area. However allow time for service because it can be a little slow.
Sushi was not "out of this world" but quite good, especially the salmon. Datff was friendly and the wait not too long for a single at the sushi bar. Lucked into parking which was not the easiest to get there. Good place to go for a late night sushi dinner or snack.
I chose Cho Oishi for a business meal prior to a movie premiere with our partners. It was a perfect casual meal al fresco. The sushi was fresh, wine was good, and service was spot on. We will be back!
Went to dinner here on a Friday night. Arrived early and the restaurant was not very crowded. Ordered drinks, edamame for an appetizer and two rolls. The drinks and edamame came quickly. After that service was non existent. People arrived after us, ordered full meals and received their food before we received our first roll. I had to flag down the waitress to inquire about our second roll. Refills on drinks were no existent. When it came paying the check, I opted to walk up to the register and pay the bill. We will not return to the restaurant.
The food is very poor I had teriyaki chicken and the chicken was like it had been cut up a week ago and rewarmed.
The service was OK, but the food quality was VERY mediocre, perhaps aimed at tourists? Would not go there again...
If I could give this restaurant no stars I would. The sushi was the worst I've ever had:(
The server was not friendly and would not explain a section of the menu that I wasn't understanding. Food wasn't that great and they took forever with my drinks. Wouldn't recommend the sushi it tasted old and NOT fresh.
We were seated outside.
Not great. Sushi was fresh and selection was good but the rolls are small for the price. The host also didn't credit our OpenTable points despite the fact it wasn't busy at all when we dined at 2pm. Would not go back.
Would not go there again. The ambiance is chaotic. The rolls were pretty bad and food court quality. The inside of the restaurant was freezing cold when it was actually a little too cool to sit outside.
This was the worst restaurant I've ever been in when I receive my food it was absolutely nasty spoke to the manager and left . Do not do not do not eat here 😡🤢
Fun experience cooking your food. Good ingredients and fresh
Waitress was very nice but service was slow. Space is large and good for groups. Don't eat Sushi, so I can't judge quality or price of that. I had beef teriyaki. Based on description thought it was going to be a steak, but it was sliced, small pieces of beef.
Was disappointed in this restaurant's food. Great location but miso soup came out lukewarm and the overall presentation was not very appetizing. Flavor was so-so and just not something I'd want again. Tables were sticky and chairs rocked back and forth so seemed unstable. Will not be back.
We had made a reservation through OpenTable. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess checked a handwritten list of reservations, and could 't find ours. But, as the restaurant was relatively empty at the time, she seated us right away.
This is at best a tourist trap. As an Asian, I found the decor to be offensive - stylized attempts at "kanji" artwork on the wall. The food was meh - the sushi quality at the local supermarket is better, our tuna was slightly questionable.
They were slightly understaffed; but when they came, they were very nice. The best thing about this place is the location and proximity to the Dolby Theatre
Really bad starting at the reception desk. They claimed I did not have a reservation, even when I showed them my reminder from Open Table on my phone. I felt like I had to convince them to serve us. Most UNwelcoming. Make no mistake - I was pleasant the whole time, in spite of their ineptitude. We were then taken to the very back of the restaurant and abandoned. Had to ask for beverage service three times. It took 20 minutes to get drinks (beer and water - nothing complicated), and another 40 minutes to get food. When the food was delivered, our server was a CHILD. He could not have been more than 8 or 9 years old. An adult server accompanied him. The final insult was a big, black hair on the bottom of my sashimi plate. When I called the manager over to show her, she apologized and offered to bring a replacement dish. I had lost my appetite by that point. Our friends paid the bill, and I believe the manager gave us a discount, which hardly made up for all the nonsense. This place is in the middle of a giant tourist attraction (Hollywood & Highland). It is clear that they do not care about repeat business, and we certainly are never going back. Just awful.
The host never checked us in via Open Table even after I asked him to. This made it look I was a "no show". Sushi was merely adequate for tourists. Best part was its location inside Hollywood and Highland where the Dolby is located. Otherwise, not worth it especially in a city with so many good Japanese restaurants around.
