   I love Chinois on Main! My first visit since Covid and the food does not disappoint! Arrived on a Saturday night and this place was packed and smelled absolutely delicious! Started with the Chinois Martini, then the Chinese Chicken salad / my favorite! Lobster spring rolls, dumplings - yummy. Main entrees were the salmon with the black and white noodles, short rib ( huge portions/ must order this!), vegetable fried rice and the amazing stir fry mushrooms. The entire meal was absolute divine - the flavors are incredible. 5 stars for food. Service/ top notch! Our server Mario knew that we had shellfish allergies and the chef from the kitchen came out and discussed how the food was prepared- we so appreciated his disclosure on this which made our dining experience extra special. 5 stars for taking care of us. Ambiance- the room seemed updated a little, the energy and vibe was great, I noticed the bathrooms were refreshed, 5 stars.. the kitchen crew were running around and I do enjoy the open kitchen concept. It was a special birthday dinner and the restaurant gave us complimentary desserts- made this an extra amazing meal and I can’t wait to return!

   We celebrated a special birthday at Chinois and left feeling very disappointed with the food and the service. The food did not meet my expectations at all!! I ordered the duck and pancakes ($27) and the seasoning was flat. It was served at room temperature; not very appetizing. I also ordered the sea bass ($70) and it was dry (overcooked) and not seasoned very well. My date ordered the crab cakes (ok, but average at best) and the scallops and pasta (again, no taste sensation……. extremely average). I have eaten at Chinois before and enjoyed everything about it….. but it is no longer the icon it used to be. We spent $300 for a meal that we could have enjoyed at a dozen other restaurants for less than half the price. I have recommended this restaurant to many family and friends…. but I will no longer be recommending it to anyone. It is simply not the restaurant it used to be!

   Les plats sont bien réalisés. Bien que nous ayons réservé, nous avons attendus qu’une table se libère. Pour s’excuser le guets-apens manager nous a offert les desserts. Au moment de régler l’addition les desserts nous ont été facturés et le manager disparu… Une manière de faire qui n’est pas professionnelle au regard des prix pratiqués. Désolé mais le succès vous fait oublier vos valeurs. Une fois mais pas deux!

   While the food is no longer considered cutting edge, attention to detail remains; excellent sea bass prepared with black bean sauce, yuzu custard were excellently prepared, perfect for the setting. Exemplified why Asian food never gets boring.

    Chinois is a classic without peers for LA dining. After 40 years it has not lost a beat. In fact surprise specials put a contemporary spritz on all the time tested and true Asian fusion menu choices. Keep it going!!!

    We went for a birthday dinner. My first time loved everything about my experience. Excellent cocktails, excellent food, excellent choices, and delicious desserts. Service perfect! Bella is amazing! We enjoyed ourselves fully.

    Chinois has been a favorite of mine since it opened. Bella and GM partner is the best hostess and director in town. The food is consistently great. Rene the chef does an outstanding job. Hector our server and Hoel, the runner, are wonderful. Anita another server is an old friend and real pro. There is noting about Chinois that doesn't make me want to keep coming back for what ever time I have left on earth. We'll be there again soon at my regular table by the orchids in the window. Barbara Lazaroff's design has not aged. It is a treat in every way. If you haven't been, go. If you haven't been in a while go back.

    After returning to Chinois after several years, it was a bit disappointing. The service was inattentive. We wanted to order dessert but the waiter never came back for our order after dropping off the menu. The ribs were good quality meat but smothered in too much sauce. One of our party could not finish the duck/pancake appetizer because it too was smothered in sauce. My tuna sashimi was up to par. I would return but my dinner partner probably won't.

    This was our first time back since before the pandemic. The food as always was fantastic, the servers were great and have a good sense of humor and are very proud of their many many years working at the restaurant. Lamb Chops, Salmon with Black and Gold Noodles, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Crispy Spinach were all perfect. Then a great soufflé desert. It is a long drive for us but totally worth it.

    Fantastic food and terrific service. We choose to eat outside, which was great, but the patio ambience could be improved. That said, the restaurant could not have been more welcoming or accommodating, and we had a lovely evening there. Again, top marks for our wonderful server; unfortunately I have forgotten her name!

    I haven’t been to Chinois in years, and the food continues to be solid, even if the menu seems to have not changed much in 10-15 years. The wait staff is pleasant and efficient. The decor and interior needs a major upgrade, and while our table was near the open kitchen, it was a little tacky to see the table next to us serving as the hub for napkins and silverware.

    This was a lovely experience. The last time my sister and I ate at Chinois was shortly after it opened 40 years ago. Last night, the food was spectacular as it was so long ago! The service was attentive and helpful! Thank you for such a great time!!

    Outdoor dining on Main St in Santa Monica has evolved to a very European experience. Lots of people on the street having a good time. Chinois upholds its standing as the most upscale dining experience on the street. Food and service were extraordinary. Evening was capped off with a table visit from Wolfgang Puck himself.

    We loved everything. The lobster, ribs, chicken salad, steamed vegetables, Steak, Bass. You can't go wrong with anything. Tons of fun and good drinks.
