As always, a culinary delight! The varied dishes, flavors and presentations remain world class and Chinois is a restaurant not to be missed. The Chinois Chicken salad is perhaps the best salad we have ever had and the Catfish is a maritime delight. Sauces are all unique and always leave us asking "what is this wonderful flavor"? Always an adventure. Highly recommended.
Been coming for years when we visit LA from Palo Alto. Never disappoints. Food is consistently outstanding.
This restaurant never grows old for us. We took our friend and her two sons (8 and 12) for dinner. There was something on the menu for everyone and we were able to share the generous portions we received. The service was excellent. My only small complaint is how close the tables are one to the other, but then the place was filled to capacity. Looking forward to our next visit.
Always a good experience - service and food excellent!
Super food, just as it was recommended to us! Fab place to mark the end of our west coast road trip.
Excellent service. Outstanding as usual.
Gastronomique asiatique de bonne qualité.
Bonne ambiance et bien reçu. Belle sélection de vins.
À faire !!
We had an amazing experience at Chinios; great food, ambiance, + family. Love this place🌸
Bella, Jason and the entire wait /cooking staffs are simply the FINEST of restaurants
Exceptionally good food
This foodie institution that inspired the Cal-French-Asian Fusion trend is still amazing after 36 years. Superb service and familiar dishes that are still inspired after all these years. In most cities, this would be the best restaurant in town. In La-La-Land I still consider it in my top 10 for sure.
Great overall experience! My favorite restaurant
We were jammed into a table by the cooking area against a wall under the air conditioning which was most uncomfortable for that expensive of a restaurant. We won't return!!
As usual the food was great. Had the chicken salad, duck rice, fried catfish and duck Bao. All was delicious. Good bottle of wine for$60.00. Wonderful waiter. Not a good deserts. Don’t order the banana crram pie.Very glutinous. Other then that wonderful meal and a very cold Martini.🍸
Always great food & service!! We especially love Chase who’s worked there for several years & is always very friendly & attentive!!
Our experience at Chinois is always wonderful and this time was no different. The food is delicious and the service was perfect
A California classic. If you haven’t been in awhile, go!
So amazing as always. The service is impeccable and the food so creative.
Food and service were great, as always when we visit Chinois on Main.
The seabass on tea leaf was delicious as always. The lamb was not very flavorful and not worth the price. We were there celebrating my daughter's birthday but the unattentive waiter didn't bother to put a candle on her dessert. Although, the lemon yuzu curd was devine. The restaurant was super loud and elbow to elbow. The grandma standing next to my table with her granddaughter in hand, had her rear next to my face, most of the evening. So overall, this experience was not as great as my past experiences with this restaurant.
Did Wolfgang sell the business?
Not the same
We came for the catfish and that was just ok
Still one of the best and most consistent restaurants in LA
Still awesome after all those years. Peppered with specials and new items, the old classic like shanghai lobster and tempura sashimi in Uni sauce continue to dazzle as well.
In my book still the best restaurant in the Puck portfolio. Sit st the counter!
Main problem was fish. The sea bass was advertised as Mediterranean, sea bass. like Branzino. . It wasn’t. , it tasted like a thin Chilean Sea Bass. Far different and not what we wanted.
Always love the whole catfish, crispy spinach and the Chinois Chicken Salad. One of our favorite places to eat.
The food was beautiful and delicious and our waiter, John was terrific! Can’t wait to go back!
Always an excellent meal!
After all these years, still one of the best restaurants in LA from food, ambiance and service.
Great place in every regard!
Fun evening. Mario the bar tender was amazing. His drinks sublime. Our server was also wonderful.we over ordere but every dish was a taste treat.
The food is good, but the salads have declined in quality. No chicken in the Chinese Chicken salad.
Pricing is ridiculous...many of the starters are over $30.00. Dinner for two without alcohol is roughly $200-250, and not worth it with the portion sizes given. The place is very noisy, so it is an eat and run kind of place, rather than a dining evening.
Exquisite food with wonderful flavors and presentation. The heirloom tomatoes were a combination of wonderful flavors and delicious sauces. The salmon was cooked to perfection.
Have not been back in 20 years. It was outstanding, I will be going back real soon. Food is the same:GREAT. The service was GREAT! A tiny gem I forgot about!
This is, without a doubt, one of the finest restaurants in Los Angeles. Chinois has been one of our very favorite restaurants since it opened and it remains so. The food is out of this world delicious and we can always count on a complete culinary delight here.
I haven't been back to Shimla in 20 years and I have to say I was quite surprised and I think it may come become a regular it was wonderful the Ambiance was great nothing's changed since the 80s which is kind of cool kind of vintage feel food was outstanding service was terrific 100% recommended!
I truly believe that if you want a perfect meal, in a perfect site, with a perfect menu, perfectly rendered by the cooking team, and perfectly served by the most charming, sweet, affable people on Earth, then you should go to Chinois.
I took my Mom for a special occasion here for lunch. We had a wonderful dining experience since the staff made us feel like VIPS :) The Manager Natalia runs a World Class Lunch that is appreciated by many. The food will transcend you from this dining experience to a very special place where memories are made.
I would have rated this a 5 star however the service was so poor I just couldn't. The food, which is why we go is just outstanding! Every single dish we ordered was outstanding!!! However, the service was just poor for the level of this kind of restaurant. I get much better service as diners, and I'm not kidding. Our server, was not interested whatsoever and frankly she seemed not to really care much about her job and certainly about us. When you spend over $400, one expects a certain level of professionalism. My water never was even refilled. I had to make eye contact with the bartender to get a refill ... he couldn't even get her attention so someone from my table got up and the bartender poured the water. Frankly, the manager & owners of Chinois should be embarrassed and ashamed. What was an amazing meal and celebration of a friend's birthday was overall a bittersweet experience. Because of that I can't recommend Chinois to a friend
