Chino Chinatown at Trinity Groves
Inspired by “barrio Chinos,” Uno Immanivong created Chino Chinatown, a destination for Chinese and Latin-influenced cuisine. The bar menu is motivated by the cocktail movement and features classic, hand-crafted drinks. The menu is a collaboration of Asian & Latin cooking styles and techniques.
Tuesday - Thursday 11:00am-10:00pm,
Friday and Saturday:11:00am - 11:00pm
Food arrived cold. Server was overwhelmed. Reservation requested a table with a spot for a baby carseat & we were seated right next to the patio door which people had to keep opening to go outside, but the door would stay open. Had to keep getting up to close the door so my family wouldn't freeze to death during dinner. Went ahead and placed our dinner order, & ordered a second round of drinks and asked for the check all at once because service was slow. Asked for a to go box, which I never got. I just let that slide because the food wasn't great anyways.
They stayed open late to accommodate us. Food was very good!
The atmosphere and food quality have diminished over the last couple of years. On this visit our food came out one plate at a time over 4-5 minutes and the food was warm, not hot. The restaurant had a lot of flies as well.
Our friends picked this spot but the food was just so so. They're more into their presentation than they are about the actual food or the ability to eat it. I ordered elote which never came until I asked about it almost 45 minutes later. They informed me that it was sitting in a togo box in the back and they were trying to figure out where it went... then they brought it out and served it to me. It's just corn on the cob with dressing and cheese poured all over it. I asked "how do people eat this??" I was told "they just eat it. It's messy. Some cut it off with a knife". Not only was the flavor just so so but the ability to eat it without making a huge mess was not an option.
The fried rice that came with my dish was wet/slimy. Rice should never be wet or slimy, even when fried.
The chicken was tough and stringy and the sauce was just meh. It was spicy but not super flavorful. It was more along the lines of orange chicken than sesame chicken.
Our friends had been before and really loved it but my husband and myself remarked upon leaving " I wouldn't go back. The food was kind of gross and the price was quite high for the food quality."
Food was tasty but my food was not hot. It was barley warm.
The food was extremely salty. The Thai coconut shrimp soup was so salty I couldn’t even eat it and the shrimp was very fishy tasting. I used to love this place but after how bad the food was this last time I don’t think I’ll be going back which is very disappointing.
We tried to make a reservation for 7:30 Staurday 15th September. Open Table indicated there were none at that time, so we made a reservation for 7:00. Before we left at 8 there were more empty tables than were occupied. So next time we go to Trinity Groves there will be no need for reservations apparently. This restaurant is just mediocre, food, service, ambience nothing special. Loud music bouncing off all hard surfaces
The food is great; the chicken and broccoli dish is really good! Their drinks are delicious too! Service was good too but only complaint was that waitress came by like every 5 min. She was very attentive but it would have been nice if she came by less to give us more uninterrupted conversation time.
Love the chicken lollipops!
I used to rave about this place and highly recommended it to friends. I thought of it as one of the jewels at Trinity Grove. However, the Last few times I’ve been there it’s been marginal at best. Service is seriously off, food is poorly cooked by being too greasy or over-cooked and the menu has become stale. The restaurant just has to get back on track. Just by looking at the buzziness of the surrounding establishment you can surmise that others are in agreement with this assessment (for one reason or another).
Service was mediocre and there were flies where we were sitting. Its a shame because it was delicious
We went for my husbands birthday. The food was delicious we had lobster shooters and duck fat fried rice. My husband got a huge slice of pineapple upside down cake with a sparkling candle free for his birthday dessert. Service was good. We will certainly return.
I ordered a chicken salad which was OK but rather short of cucumbers and mandarin oranges. My friends loved their dishes of mushroom soup and Kung Lao chicken. It was just a little pricey.
The food was good, drinks were ok. Overall it was a good experience, the service was excellent for sure. One note though is that they will offer extra items to your entrees and will not disclose that it will cost extra.
We visited on a Friday at lunch time. Honestly, we think only one waiter was on duty. My salad entree was served 10 minutes before the hot entrees, and it was inedibly dry with few of the listed ingredients in it. We couldn't bring it to the server's attention because he never returned to ask how we liked our food. We asked two food runners for our check at the end, and it was delivered twice. The table looked like it could use a good scrub down with Mr. Clean. Seriously disappointed in this experience, and we won't return.
Food was overpriced for what you got, duck was well over cooked. Service was slow for how dead they were on a Saturday night. Was never offered another round of drinks (drinks are also cheaper on the menu then they show up on your tab) special instructions for food were not followed. Would most likely not return
Restaurant was busy, but not full on a Thursday at lunch. We were seated without menus, and it took a long time for our server to come over. Service was slow, and we didn't receive items we ordered a few times so we had to ask. It seemed as though management was picking up the slack for our waiter. The waiter was apologetic, but did nothing to remedy or improve the situation. Food was fine, but not worth the bad service and moderate-to-high price tag.
Our food was delicious! Our server was excellent & very attentive.
Wonderful food, friendly waitress, laid back atmosphere.
We arrived at 5:00 for an early dinner and they were a little disorganized. But we loved our experience and the price was what I'd expect for a very nice meal.
This is our third time here. Our server was sub-par. She messed up our order. Double charged us. Checked up on us sporadically. And in the end, decided an automatic 20% tip AFTER tax was due to her. That means she gave herself a 21.6% tip.
While I always tip 18-22%, the arrogance of the server to do this on a six top was selfish and disrespectful.
Nowhere did it state that there will be auto gratuity on a table of 6, and nowhere did it say it would be 21.6%.
After confronting the hostess about this, my concerns and dissatisfaction went unanswered, for she didn’t know anything about auto-gratuity, and she didn’t care to check or ask anyone. She basically showed us the door as we were exiting.
On the other hand, the food was excellent, hence the 3 stars instead of 1. It’s not the kitchen’s fault for the server’s crap service and the restaurants mishandling of our complaint.
I made a reservation and I didn’t have any problem when asked for it. The waiters were very attentive and servicial. In overall the food was great even thought I think they have modified the seasoning in some aspects like for the ramen broth and it didn’t come with eggs like usual. Service i. The other hand was excellent!!
Food quality seems to have declined since we were last there a couple of years ago. The place had very few customers. The metal chairs are very uncomfortable.
Dining at Chino Chinatown was a pleasant experience with great service. Both my fiance and I were curious to try new foods so we ordered the Tour of Chino (It was highly recommended by our waitress) and sampled what was available. While the pork in the sampler was a bit dry, the other foods were all excellently prepared and delicious. We especially enjoyed the fusion restaurant's spin on the elote as well as the lollipop chicken. If you're feeling curious for new flavors and wonderful accommodations
This is still one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas!
The waiter was very nice and accommodating. We ordered the wontons and they arrived very cold. After we notified the waiter, he brought back a fresh order of the wontons. The new ones were delicious!
We love Chino. Great appitizers ro start with some unique bar drinks. Loved our entrees .. great portion sizes
For something new, plus you can walk around to try the cake bar or Kate's chocolate
Father’s Day but they rushed us out so quick
Food was great but service was horrible. Cocktails were not good and questionable as to if alcohol was in the drinks. For the type of cuisine it is overpriced. More than likely won’t go back but we did enjoy the Duck Fat Fried Rice and the Chino Platter. Just overpriced.
Some of the best food we've tried. Great menu, great staff!
We were at in a high traffic area even though we made a reservation. Servers continuously tried to get past each other between our table and another table. The same server ran into me 3 times and the table next to us 3 times, which means we were startled 6 times! It's hard to eat when you feel like you're on a football field. The lobster shooters we just okay, the lobster itself had no flavor and was extremely tough. I ordered the Short Rib Drunken Noodles, something they are known for. The plate looked so sloppy. Way too much sauce, the veggies weren't chopped up into bite sized pieces and the short rib was so overcooked it was dry. Overall it was so disappointing. We took our meal home in hopes of enjoying it more in a nice environment but we actually hated the food more the second time. Won't be returning unfortunately. I love any kind of Asian fusion cuisine but this fell very short. Too bad because Trinity Groves is so cute!
We brought a group of 5 people and ordered the Chef Uno Family Dinner. It was more than enough food, we had a lot left over. Everything was incredibly delicious. There was nothing we would have substituted. We could not agree on which item was the best.
In addition to the mind blowing food, we had amazing service! I wish i could remember her name. But she was the blonde waitress for the round booths on Saturday night. She did a great job, very knowledgeable about the food and cocktails.
We tried a few of their cocktails. The mule with the pisco was a big hit as well as the snake charmer. The cocojito (like a mojito but with coconut water) was a little strange. But the regular mojito was really good.
The food came out fast. The music was neither too loud nor too quiet. Very nice atmosphere. I would love to go back for a date night.
One of my favorite restaurants - I come here as often as I can. Food is great, but lately service has been lacking. Last 3 or 4 times I've been, the restaurant is only 30% full, but we have to wait 15+ minutes for a server to come take our drink orders, then wait again for their return to take food orders. On one visit some people in our group were ordering two drinks at a time because it was taking 30+ minutes for the server to return. Still will come back though, food is great and large sized plates.
Food is delish, service is awesome!! We have never had a bad experience! Love this place!
It has been a long time finding a restaurant that it hit on every level. It put it simply this place was amazing. The look, the feel, service and food were outstanding. I wish my hometown of Houston had something even close to this. The duckfat fried rice was incredible, along with the tour of chino.
The food wasn’t fresh. Not worth the money. Very disappointed.
I waited 25 minutes for the waiter to ask for our lunch orders and another 35-40 minutes waiting for the food. FOOD NEVER CAME after being there an hour, we left.
It was a horrible experience because of the mean crappy waiter. I went their for my birthday with my family and server didnt even greet up. The only time we saw our waiter is when he came to take our order for drink and foods. We saw a bus boy more than our server. He never came to the table to ask how the food was, he didnt care enough to know how the food was. We felt very unwelcomed, so when it was time to pay we decide to not tip him good as for us tip is base on service and we were not satisfied. And the crazy part is as soon as i put the check tray down after signing and tipping this server look at the tip and ask us why did we tip so less and we told him because we didnt like the service. And the server had an audacity to tell us that we should go to a fast food joint to eat if we are not going tip more than 18% and when i told him that my tip is base on service he blame it on restaurant being busy and couldnt take care of it. That was very rude behavior, people who do not know how to treat there customer feel valued and at the same time behave rudely shouldnt be in a customer service business. The server name was Albert or something like that. Overall a horrible experience never coming back and never going to recommend anyone. It was a worst birthday dinner. I think you guys need to train people.
Water glasses were dirty on the table when we arrived and the service was slow. We weren’t in a hurry so it was ok. It gave us more time to chat and stare at other people, lol. Food was still great. Always a an interesting variety of food choices. Plus, the valet was on point that evening.
