There is no fusion of dishes nor compromise on classical recipes, all are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavourings. No mono-sodium-glutomate (MSG) shall be used.
The decoration of China Tang will evoke a romantic sense of art deco of the thirties in line with the general architecture of the Dorchester Hotel. At the same time, there will be an abundance of Chinoiserie as well as a collection of art from both.
SET LUNCH MENU @ £35.00 AVAILABLE DAILY UNTIL 3.30PM
Slow service. We were overtly rushed, the dessert menu was brought out in the middle of eating our main course because of the apparently very strict 2 hour limit! Tables squashed, waiting staff can do better. Very annoying squeaky kitchen door being used all evening. Food left something to be desired. Disappointing.
We went for my daughters birthday, as we do every year, since we were last there the menu has changed and I prefer the old menu and when the dumplings arrived there was a black hair in them!! They were replaced but shouldn't have been there in the first place!
Food was great, but hot dishes were a little on the cold side by the time it reached our table, and attentive level of service. We tried a couple of dim sum dishes and a few from the a la Carte menu. Lovely flavours and wasn’t too heavy or greasy food.
Qualität der Speisen sind eher mittelmäßig.
Zum Teil nur lauwarm, undifferenziert gewürzt.
Im Großen und Ganzen kulinarisch enttäuschend.
Food, cocktails etc all very good. I was a little disappointed that two young children were running around the restaurant past 8.00, when they have a policy that means they should not have been there.
Probably the best Chinese food in town. Staff was helpfull, polite and kind. Food and wine were excellent.
We decided to go China Tang for an anniversary dinner as we were recommended and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were all very attentive and helpful with recommendations of what to order. The food was really good everything tasted amazing and will definitely be going back.
Splendida atmosfera, locale molto elegante, cibo eccellente ,grande professionalità e gentilezza ! Unico!
Excellent customer service, good food, and decor ...it would have been nice if they had made a bit of fuss over my son as it was his birthday and they knew as I had informed them when I booked. Regardless I would definately recommend the venue and go again.
Great food in a lovely setting. Cost was high but to be expected in the location. Duck was superb.
It was a good experience. Didn't enjoy the soup but the rest of the food was amazing. they catered to my needs perfectly and adjusted one of the dishes per my request without complaint. Would defo come back.
Sensational experience - Its not cheap but it's worth it
Fabulous.... the duck is amazing
A beautiful place to dine, food was definitely outstanding and the service excellent. Can’t wait for my next business trip to come again
We had high hopes for celebrate our anniversary at China Tang and made reservations well in advance. However the day of I phoned several times to confirm and move the time a bit earlier. No one ever answered the phone. When we arrived there was no one at coat check and the restaurant was fairly empty. Despite that they seated us at a tiny table in the back corner and upon asking for other options (and much discussion with "colleagues") we decided that this was the best that we could do. The sommelier was by far the highlight to our experience. We had a lovely bottle of champagne and he looked after us. The wait staff was fine and the food was good (not exceptional). The service was very rushed and the ambiance was not as good as it might have been as the table are very packed in and noise level is high. For the price point and being in the Dorchester I was disappointed.
Table booked at 9.30 and only seated at 10.05, kitchen closed for desserts as the steamer had been turned off.
Was recommended this place by my cousin to take my wife for her birthday and it was definitely worth it. The atmosphere was really wonderful and the service was very efficient. The food options were vast as well and prices were not as bad as I expected. The food portions were really big as well to what I was expecting. We ordered 2 starters and 2 mains and 2 sides as well as 2 desserts and due to the portion size, we just about managed to finish it all. They also sang Happy Birthday to my wife and gave us a small dessert platter on the house for her. Overall a very very pleasant evening and would recommend this to anyone who would love to enjoy Halal Chinese food as well as to take their respective partners.
Great meal served with perfection never fails to deliver and claims the prize of London’s best eatery
Impeccable food and service. Lovely setting, you forget you are below ground level. Bit noisy but feels polished for that special occasion. Lovely pistachio colada cocktail in the bar beforehand too. Must also mention I was first to arrive and didn’t feel uncomfortable waiting in the bar alone.
Great wine list. Food average.
Restaurant is very noisy. Tables are packed fairly tight. Food and service have been better.
A very elegant Chinese restaurant with good quality food and good service. But it was bit noisy and my table was at the entrance of the restaurant. Nevertheless we had an enjoyable evening.
I was expecting luxurious experience in Dorchester. However when we went there, no body took our coats initially. As we sat down on the table, we realised that the cutlery was old and we could see old marks on it. The waiter of the restaurant did not even smile when he introduced himself. The food was reasonably good. When we asked waiter to recommend any dish, he said he doesn’t know. The waiters were not as welcoming as we were expecting them to be. Finally the desert, Mango pudding was not good. It was not cold enough.
We could smell weed when we left the dining room.
So I would give 2/5 to this restaurant. But I would not recommend it for exclusive or fine dining.
The service definitely needs to improve , I emailed and called before arriving to arrange something special for my friend as it wa her birthday. Unfortunately they forgot to bring out the candle on the desert, the waiter also needs to improve on his customer service and communication skills (he smiled but his tone was quite abrupt ) I’m defiantly not going back or recommending it to anyone
The food was really good, but there was not 1 waiter who was looking after us so the food took long to arrive. the ambience was great and everyone was really helpful!
Good Halal selection from the Halal menu but we felt rushed as we were told we only have 2 hours to complete our dinner even before we were shown to our seat. We were there to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday and that dampened the mood. After we finished the main course we had 15 minutes to order and enjoy dessert. Although the restaurant did make an effort to put a candle on one of the dessert for my son.
It is not a cheap night out but if you willing to pay its worth it. Food very good. Lovely atmosphere and our server very nice.
The food was good; however this was let down be the incredibly poor service. For example, our order was incorrect and delivered at the wrong times (i.e starts came after there second course). It then took so longer for incorrect orders o be replaced that we had eat the rest of the meal before the correct order arrived.
On a plus, the ambience here was lovely; however, considering the overall service and food quality, we could have got as good in an average China Town restaurant, but for much cheaper.
We booked China Tang for a friend's 30th and we all had such a great time. As always the food was impeccable. Service was excellent. We got the best table in the house. Such a great time. Thank you.
Having high expectations of this recommended restaurant we were so very disappointed. Having previously asked about gluten free options my wife was extremely disappointed to be told she could have only two starters -calamari or soup! This is appalling and really not acceptable. The waitress served food to myself and continued to lean across my food to serve one of our family - not high standard table manners and she was very rude and abrupt. I feel we were crammed into a very small space and the gentleman on the table next to us most definitely had my wife’s body scuffing him on entry to the rear of the table. We were down on business and we will not be returning soon to this restaurant. The only excellent part was the entry through the actual hotel.
Very nice a restaurant with real class
As usual excellent food superb staff great everything first class, shall be back
Great place for dim sum and they serve dim sum throughout the day unlike others only serve during the day. fabulous deco, very traditional chinese, with lantern, cherry blossom all over. Great selection in the dim sum and a la carte menu.
They have separate teams to handle drinks orders and food orders, and on a busy night, food staff were difficult to find, so a bit of a wait to get their attentions.
Price is ok affordable for special occasion like Chinese New Year celebration & St Valentines or a reunion with friends is great!
BEST CHINESE FOOD IN LONDON! I’d eat there everyday if I could
We arrived just after 12 and restaurant wasn't open - we ventured downstairs at 12.05 and staff were standing around. It felt like we were intruding and did not receive a warm welcome from them.
I asked for the lunch menu and received disapproving looks, although I did order from a la carte menu. The sommelier was dismissive and quickly took away the wine glasses before I had even said we weren't having a bottle of wine.
We had originally planned to go for the Tea at Tangs, but there was no information about what time that was available from, and they didn't answer my email.
But then our waitress arrived and the experience improved. We were still the only customers in the restaurant so it did feel quite drab. A lot of the items on the menu weren't available, but what they did have tasted nice.
One disappointment was the xiao long bao had no soup by the time it got to us, a disappointing solid mouthful of meat and pastry.
Butttt I really enjoyed the lobster dumpling and mango spring roll. The egg tart was also nice
Overall, hit and miss. Service and ambience could be better and they could be better organised. The food was in general good, and the one waitress we had was nice.
Service was super lousy. Given the number of staff they had you and the fact it’s located in the Dorchester, you would think they know how to do service. We were not greeted or thanked when we left and the waiting staff were all mediocre and almost rude and non expressive apart from the guy who took our order.
Food is excellent but not sure I would go again when the service was so terrible
The food was very basic not nicely presented and average in taste. The wine list was externely over priced . The service was slow and I had the feeling they were under stress. Would not go back.
From the moment we walked in until the second we left, nobody seemed remotely interested in us enjoying our experience. It was a special occasion for us, not that anybody made any effort, even though the restaurant was pre advised.
I had heard really good things from friends I trust, and it was the only high end Chinese Resto in London we hadn't tried.
The room is far to overcrowded, they could lose 12 covers and the experience would be greatly increased. There was no thought to the seating attempt, a young couple on a romantic night out placed next to a table including 4 kids under 6yrs old, not ideal on a Saturday night.
The food that followed (dim sum aside which was a comfortable 7.5/10) was provincial takeaway quality at best.. At best. Tasteless lumps of nothingness!
We paid the bill of just under £200 and left very very disappointed.
Fabulous Dim Sum options, delicious flavoursome food, superb service, decor and ambience. Highly recommended.
I have been many times. Every time everything is consistent , the service is outstanding , the food is delicious and the ambiance is wonderful. I make sure I go every time to go to london
