ITS CLOSER. WHY WOULD YOU ASK HOW IT WAS?????? Sometimes technology really is lacking.

Food is fantastic. Making a choice was very tough. Every time a dish went past us to another table we wanted to grab a taste! The room is big and impressive and the kitchen is an open one in middle of the space, which made it a bit smokey. Our server was distant and aloof and took a very long time to get our drink order.
Over all, we would go back because the good was so amazing!

Been going here for more than 20 years and always try and fit in a visit when in NYC. Managed to squeeze in for 75 minutes between train and flight back to UK. Good as ever and the tuna and crab tacos were sublime. Calamari salad also great. My son considers the bananas in a box to die for. Still cool after all these years.

CG looks inviting at night when passing by on foot, but once inside it looks a bit dated and dog-eared. High ceiling is a plus visually, but noise levels are too high with a full house. Restaurant Week menu offerings were quite tasty, except the house desert cake--it looked fine but tasted blah. Service was OK considering how busy the restaurant was (7-9pm).

10 years ago much better kitchen and better menu! The presentation was better, and the people in the reception more friendly!

No good salad options. Best dish was shrimp on black rice. Food was greasy and salty and created indigestion. Drinks were good. Waiter was very good. Not a new york experience. More like a hotel restaurant. I expect more for 50 bucks each and from new york. More healthy fresh options would be an improvement.

Food is definitely the highlight. Super tasty. Service ruins the experience. I had the worst service on my 10 years of dining in nyc. Waiter was completely unattentive. He forgot half our order and what food did make it to the table came at completely staggered times. Terrible!

Food was terrific, as I recalled from my encounters with this restaurant's Chicago and Las Vegas locations (now closed, alas!). I was told by our waiter, Chris, that NYC was the first restaurant and has operated since 1987. We opted for the 'Restaurant Week' prix fixe (with a couple of upgrades). Service was quick but not rushed, staff was attentive but respectful (no one interrupted our conversation to ask about the food).
The restaurant felt a bit tired. The full-height windows appeared dirty when looking out to the street after dark. There is no carpeting, no table cloths, and the walls appear to be covered in some kind of stone. However, the room was high enough to prevent the noise from becoming bothersome. Main lighting is provided from above, with large leaf-shaped shades covering lights that hang from the unfinished ceiling. The gap between the lights and shades allowed direct light to shine into the room, which we found to be somewhat unpleasant.

It was my sisters birthday. We have been coming here for the past six years but tonight was the first time we didn't feel as helped by our waiter. He didn't seem to have the time for our table.

Disappointing. Decent food but nothing too special, and subpar service. Sadly not a repeat. Plenty of better options at this range and cuisine in NYC. La Chine, Tao, Spice Market, etc. blow China Grill out of the water any day.

Had not been in many years but grabbed the chance during restaurant week. Its hard to believe this restaurant is 30 years old! It doesnt look it yet not much has changed...huge high ceilings but one can still hold conversation. We had family style/shared apps and mains, all fantastic. Dumplings, burrata on eggplant, bbq salmon and the famous drunken chicken. Sides had to do the also famous crispy spinach...nothing like it, cotton candy in your mouth. Try it, you'll like it :)

Everything was excellent but I took away one star for service because although there were plenty of tables, we we seated way in back behing serving stations. That was our view. Other than that, everything was great. We dined for restaurant week. There are a lot of additional surcharges for some items but they were worth it. We were prepared for smaller cheap portions but were pleasently surprised. The food was very good but, based on their prices and my new attempts to not spend in excess this year, I think I will only dine here for restaurant week

I haven't been here in many years even though I work right around the corner. I found the ambiance it to be a little dated and worn. We visited during restaurant week so we had a pre-fixed menu selection. The cost for the 3 courses not including tax, tip or drinks was $42/pp.

We started with the SPICY BEEF DUMPLINGS with ginger soy, sriracha - they were ok, there were 3 I think and they were very spicy. We also had the CRISPY EGGPLANT & BURRATA with a miso glaze. There were 3 small fried pieces of eggplant lying on the burrata cheese - pretty tasty. For the entrees we had WILD MUSHROOM PASTA made with parmesan, butter, sake and the GRILLED SZECHUAN BEEF shallot, red chili, ginger, cilantro (additional $9 per order) as a side we picked VEGGIE FRIED RICE to go with the beef. It was good, not great, my friend liked it more than I did. The service was very attentive and our waiter was very nice in explaining the options. For dessert we had a chocolate layered cake with sorbet on the side - the cake looked decadent and I couldn't wait to dig in but was disappointed, it wasn't chocolaty enough for me. The bar seemed like it was happening, I know they have a happy hour with some nice choices for bar snacks at more reasonable prices. I might go back for that and give it another try.

Great ambiance and enjoyable overall. Service is very good. The dishes are different and very tasty. However, be warned: you have to insist that they slow down the delivery of the dishes, and when you do, the second course may not be hot. Recommend ordering one course at a time.

Been coming to China Grill for years and they are really struggling to keep the quality and service levels up. Food tasted great but was lukewarm when it finally arrived. Service was SOOOO slow and without explanation or apology. The bartender and seating hostess were delightful - it wasn't overall a terrible experience but not up to standards for the VERY expensive meal even by NYC standards and certainly not as grand as experience as it used to be to dine here. Judging from other reviews it's hit or miss.

This is one of my favorite places in the city! I've been celebrating my birthday here for years... There is no other restaurant like it. The unique cuisine really makes this restaurant stand out from the rest!!! You must try the lobster pancakes and the crispy spinach. Also no meal would be complete without the Bananas in a Box for dessert!!

I had almost forgotten how delicious the food was, and how good the service was... The crispy spinach is one of my favorites, and not found at many restaurants. The lobster/ginger mashed potatoes and the garlic grilled shrimp with black rice and coconut sauce were to die for. And the final treat of a salted caramel soufle was superb! I can't wait to go back!

We have dined at the China Grill in the past, and have always been happy. Today was disappointment personified. The service was poor, the appetizer came at the same time as the main course. I usually have the duck salad, let me say it was difficult to find a piece of duck in the salad. While we were not big spenders like other, that does not mean I should have to ask twice to have my water glass filled.
