Food is fantastic. Making a choice was very tough. Every time a dish went past us to another table we wanted to grab a taste! The room is big and impressive and the kitchen is an open one in middle of the space, which made it a bit smokey. Our server was distant and aloof and took a very long time to get our drink order.
Over all, we would go back because the good was so amazing!

Been going here for more than 20 years and always try and fit in a visit when in NYC. Managed to squeeze in for 75 minutes between train and flight back to UK. Good as ever and the tuna and crab tacos were sublime. Calamari salad also great. My son considers the bananas in a box to die for. Still cool after all these years.

CG looks inviting at night when passing by on foot, but once inside it looks a bit dated and dog-eared. High ceiling is a plus visually, but noise levels are too high with a full house. Restaurant Week menu offerings were quite tasty, except the house desert cake--it looked fine but tasted blah. Service was OK considering how busy the restaurant was (7-9pm).

No good salad options. Best dish was shrimp on black rice. Food was greasy and salty and created indigestion. Drinks were good. Waiter was very good. Not a new york experience. More like a hotel restaurant. I expect more for 50 bucks each and from new york. More healthy fresh options would be an improvement.

Food is definitely the highlight. Super tasty. Service ruins the experience. I had the worst service on my 10 years of dining in nyc. Waiter was completely unattentive. He forgot half our order and what food did make it to the table came at completely staggered times. Terrible!

Food was terrific, as I recalled from my encounters with this restaurant's Chicago and Las Vegas locations (now closed, alas!). I was told by our waiter, Chris, that NYC was the first restaurant and has operated since 1987. We opted for the 'Restaurant Week' prix fixe (with a couple of upgrades). Service was quick but not rushed, staff was attentive but respectful (no one interrupted our conversation to ask about the food).
The restaurant felt a bit tired. The full-height windows appeared dirty when looking out to the street after dark. There is no carpeting, no table cloths, and the walls appear to be covered in some kind of stone. However, the room was high enough to prevent the noise from becoming bothersome. Main lighting is provided from above, with large leaf-shaped shades covering lights that hang from the unfinished ceiling. The gap between the lights and shades allowed direct light to shine into the room, which we found to be somewhat unpleasant.
