Chima Steakhouse - Washington Ratings and Reviews
I have always enjoyed taking friends and family for dinners at Chima Steakhouse. Offering lunch is a great idea, especially that I work in Tysons area. It is a fabulous dining option for my coworkers and business visitors. Most of my friends positively comment on the variety of food options with the rich salad bar and the authentic meat and unique desert menu. I always loved Chima's relaxing ambiance, great services, and friendly staff.
Hands-down the most delicious meats we've ever tasted. Amazing variety complemented by an exceptional service team. Our waiter Joao was fantastic! Definitely come hungry and ready to feast for a couple of hours. We left the restaurant satisfyingly full, but too stuffed. A must for anyone in the area to experience!
After first round of meats came around - they never returned unless asked for. Two of us were not ready for meat when first round came, assuming they would be back. Never happened. We asked for the specific meat - but it never returned. For the price we paid, I would have figured they would be by a couple of times.
The other day I came across in my clean-up a Kennedy Center program from the late 1970`s featuring the Vienna Philharmonic performing Beethoven`s 9th Symphony conducted by none other than .....Leonard Bernstein. That is the ultimate pleasure to the ears. Chima falls into the same category but one where it imparts a similar artistic pleasure, but as poetry to the palate. Two perfect marriages.
I made a reservation based on an email advertisement that led me, the reader, to conclude that Chima was offering a special for the holiday. The add implied that the meal, which was a regular $42 per person was $19.95 with a special of 4 brunch style drinks, offered for reservations prior to 3 pm. This was not what was available. The meal was the regular price and the $19.95 was for the drink package. I know I was certainly misled and would not have made the reservation if I had correctly understood the email ad. The cost was explained to me prior to seating, but since we were already there, we went ahead with the reservation. I think the ad was deceptive and I was disappointed. While the meal was excellent, I would not have gone if I knew the special involved only a drink package.
Excellent salad bar with unexpected and well-prepared dishes including meats and cheeses. Brazilian Grill always has an element of fun with the wide variety of meats. I did find the pork and chicken to be dry, but the top sirloin was perfect. I would recommend!
So what exactly does "Proper Attire Required" mean anymore? The restaurant displays the sign at the front desk. If a guy in gym shorts, tee shirt, and high-top sneakers is proper attire, what isn't? A bikini? Naked? Another man had on a tee shirt, shorts, and flip flops. A woman had shorts so short I could almost see her butt. This greatly diminishes the ambiance of this otherwise fantastic restaurant which charges quite a bit for the experience. Why even put up the sign if you're not going to enforce it? If you lower the experience, then how about lowering the price, too?
Made the mistake of celebrating 4 birthdays with 6 guests on Father's Day evening with only one father attending. Restaurant looked invaded by children, casual wear and groups. The staff were personable and welcoming, the bathrooms were not. The salad bar remained incredibly orderly and stocked despite the excessive diners but had the same 5 meats visit our table thereby requiring requesting the beef ribs and chicken. Never got to taste the salmon which was what I primarily wanted. The servers were personable and explained the shared tables dishes well however the bottled water was excessive and I felt tricked. The complimentary cheese popovers and meatballs were unexpectedly tasty and then the fried banana and plantain were lovely compliments to the meat entrees. The turkey salad and mashed potatoes were underwhelming and cold. The variety of salads, bread, cheese and bar items were outstanding and welcomed by the entire group causing debate whether there was room for the meat selections yet when the spears arrived we found ourselves in Heaven. Delicious! Well prepared and decent portions. Again, would have liked the salmon. The manager assisted my husband who uses a walker and made suggestions. Personal service is a huge asset in this kind of environment. My complaint and questioning of returning stems from providing the dessert menu but then surprising the table with 4 birthday desserts. Felt a little gouged at that point. A $500 bill and then only the one "step-dad" was provided a gift card for a return visit. Would have been more diplomatic and business-smart to provide to all guests so they may consider another attempt when Father's Day is not crowding the ambiance of the dining experience.
The salad bar had many options including seasonal options. The caesar salad was excellent as was the peach frisee salad.
The main course included so many meats! The cajun ribeye was excellent! The filet so tender you could cut it with a fork. The selection was wonderful. The salmon with passionfruit sauce was excellent. My son and husband enjoyed themselves immensely. Come hungry to get your money's worth!
My family took me there for Father's Day. The services and the meats being brought to the table was horrible. We where seated in the back and it seemed as they forgot about us. At one time we went 20 minutes before they brought meat to us. The entire two hours we where there we only had the boneless chicken come around twice, the I had to ask for it. The fish never came around or the beef ribs. The place was not super crowded or semi-crowded.
I would say dont sit people in the far back left if the runners are not going to come back there.
Very, very , very disappointed to spend my father's day there with that type of service and treatment.
Went to Chima for Father's Day and I did not realize how expensive this place was, one of my daughters barely touch the meat and she was charged full price anyway, they had promised a Father's Day picture and it turned out to be an iPad taken the picture, all the gauchos attacked a table at the same time leaving us with no choice but to turned down many good meat cuts .
Some people were in flip flops for the $$$$ and people dresses in shorts and tang tops and flip flops prices should of been more reasonable with the kind of crowd the restaurant was accepting.
The food/meet here is great, but I thought it to be way overpriced.
The service was good, but we were often waiting for meat and had to ask a few times for specific kinds of meat and never saw some kinds (pork). It was busy when we arrived (lunch on Father's Day) but most had cleared out before we were done,.
Family of 3 (with a 12 yr old) bill was over $200 after tip. Not worth it imo.
They do accommodate those who like their meats well done, which isn't common. I appreciated that.
This restaurant is a hidden gem amongst various office buildings and just outside of the Mall. The atmosphere is five star, the music was five star and the food was five star. Our waiter was exceptionally nice and we enjoyed every bite of the food. I highly recommend it for all occasions.
