The special chorizo eggrolls are just one of many unique items on the menu at Chili U. The food menu alone is reason is enough to pay homage to this restaurant, but the drink list is quite spectacular as well. Come here early to enjoy drinks after work with friends or colleagues, and stay to have a hearty meal cooked to order.
If you want something different, just order the poutine. This Chili U original contains waffle fries, gravy and melted white cheddar cheese curds. Beyond that, Chili U does great seafood platters, including the ever-popular fried shrimp and peppercorn tuna.
Chili U did not have my reservation but thankfully they had a table for us.
First time here and we loved everything about this bar/restaurant! I loved the bar! Everything was clean and beautiful. We came to meet friends for the Cubs game and for dinner. We all had Chili and it was AMAZING- SO delicious! Loved the concept. WE will definitely be back! If you're looking for something new this is the spot!
All sorts of ways to create a bowl of chili to your taste. Nice portions, very fresh. Service is quick and prices are fair.
First time eating here, and I didn't know what to expect. My "build your own" chili turned out amazing. Prices were very affordable. Definitely a place to visit again.
Still one of our local faves. Noticed bigger portions on some items this time - awesome!
Had the shrimp Po boy with sweet potato tater tots. my husband had the burger. both were good. we tried the shrimp chili which was spicy and very tasty. we did get the tuna appetizer that was very over cooked and lacked a lot of flavor.
We like the theme of the restaurant. The food is always good. The service is tremendous.
Great food, great music, great service!! Will be back for sure.
Always good...even beyond chili choices. Prefer the chili choices over the brunch menu.
As always, Chili U did not disappoint. The food is always good and the portions are always generous. We were surprised that the place was nearly empty and the service was SLOW!
Chili U is always good, it never disappoints! We went with another couple and had an appetizer, chili and drinks. The portions are large and it is always good food and fun to create your own dinner. I always recommend this places!
Enjoyed our experience. Loved the décor, albeit a tad noisy. Fish tacos were great, my wife's hamburger was overdone though. Our waitress was very accommodating and provided great effort even though it was her first night on the job. Seemed a little young to be serving drinks though. Definitely will go back .
The name of the establishment can throw many diners off because it would seem to have a targeted appeal to chili lovers. On the contrary, the menu offers expansive choices in the comfort/bar food category. Atmosphere is pleasant, and food was executed well. We would definitely return.
One of our nearby favs! Quiet and relaxing for Monday lunch.
Very nice casual dining place. Food was average...nothing to write home about but it all tasted good. Very good beer menu. Will go again but won't be my first choice. Excellent service! Staff was very attentive.
I had an employee that we were celebrating with and so we tried out this location. Menu was great for a diverse group and all of us said we wanted to come back again to try other things.
Have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. The staff is really friendly too.
Loved the decor and atmosphere. Food choices were varied and interesting - and very tasty!
Libertyville is full of great spots to catch a bit and enjoy a stroll through the downtown, but Chili U is exceptional. The menu is very diverse, the food is fresh and the wait staff pays attention to detail.
They need more salads. Salads have consistently been a disappointment. Ambiance is great in front.
Unique place and one of our faves in Libertyville! Friend from California loved it and said he'd never had chili this way before--got Midwestern with hash browns, cheese and avocados.
Great service along with amazing food. We sat in the bar area which was subdued on a Sunday night. All four of our party ordered different chilies and we all loved it. Good beer selection to go with the food. All around terrific spot.
Although very busy when we arrived, we were greeted & waited on promptly. The server gave good food recommendations. So far we have not tried anything that wasn't good. The drink menu is superb with unique wines & good beer. The restaurant is good for both lunch with family to dinner or drinks out on the town!
The Chorizo egg rolls are excellent. Lots of flavor and interesting combination. The Lamb tacos were kind of bland. Not much flavor from the lamb, but the accouterments with it were good. The African Chili wasn't as good as remembered in the past. Kind of bland and not as spicy as I remember. Overall good, but not great this trip.
I cannot wait to bring my friends back here with me. The food was excellent and so was the service.
I loved the atmosphere in this restaurant. There were so many subtle details. The food was delicious and out of the ordinary. Can't wait to go back
Great, hearty meals. The bloody is delicious, and the food is just the right amount of greasy.
Manager always stops by to check in on experience, which is nice to see. Great food and nice servers. I'm so glad to see such a great place in downtown Libertyville! The bartender is also super friendly and fun :)
We have been to Chili U in Libertyville a bunch of times and it never disappoints. The food is always good and the experience fun. Always nice to bring a newbie there and watch as they discover the fun of building your own chili!
Food was great, interesting concept and very tasty! Atmosphere is very cool, can't wait for warmer weather so we can enjoy the patio.
Barbie dioramoas were a hit with my friends!
We met up with old friends there that we have not seen for years. The server was patient with us, allowing us to catch up. Service was outstanding and polite. Food here is really good. It is not your mom's chili. They have many different options plus the option to customize your own chili.
We frequent this restaurant--the unique chili dishes are great and we love the look and feel of the place!
Chili was delicious. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. We would definitely return.
Great service ... unique food ... chili taken to a higher level. Like many contemporary restaurants, it can get loud during busy weekend dinner hours, but this place is divided into two dining areas, which helps a lot. Highly recommended!
I've been here several times and each time I've had a delicious meal with great drinks. I highly recommend the organic vodka American Harvest on the rocks or with any other drink. It's so smooth and doesn't ever give a hint of a hangover the next day. I recommend the shrimp appetizer, it's delicous!
This is a fantastic place for drinks @ the bar with friends (In the front of the restaurant) or for a fantastic casual dinner (@ the back of the restaurant) with a unique menu that would not scare anyone away. (I.e. Menu items for all palates)
I had a really good time at this establishment. The first thing I was struck by was the decor of the place. It is well designed and a lot bigger than you initially think. There is a bar w/ dinning area and an entirely separate dinning area that is very comfy and w/ a subtle view of the kitchen. The food was good and I believe our server was very attentive. I had the African chicken which wasn't what I thought it would be but it was tasty none the less. I would have enjoyed more bold flavoring but given the neighborhood, I understand. The bread pudding dessert is definitely a plus! I really loved the peanut butter sauce that was drizzled over it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that's looking for a bar to watch the game and have good food or an above average casual dinning restaurant!
Despite the name, this place has a lot of non-chili items, and several very flavorfull vegetarian choices. We love the idea of "build your own" chili dinner (you choose the extra ingredients for the base and toppings to be added to 4 choices of chili) and the unique chili recipes in the "we make" part of the menu, especially the Thai Shrimp Chili. The mix and match sliders are great too, my favorites, pulled pork with mango salsa and the chili joe slider topped with Fritos chips.
Chili U has become a favorite for my wife and I. The food is great and they are very willing to customize their menu to accommodate dietary restrictions. The atmosphere is great for a having a great date night.
We were the only ones in the dining are for lunch, so was easy to have a nice conversation. The menu is a nice change to the same old. Will go back.
