Chili House is always great. Friendly, delicious and helpful with ordering. Never a bad meal!
We were disappointed that the restaurant was completely out of one of the most popular items in the menu: THE CRAB! My husband & I are pescatarian so that left us basically with the option of shrimp.
The customer service wasn’t great: slow service, menu items unavailable & all the dishes came out separately with extended wait times which interfered with our dining experience.
I ordered the Peking duck since only 20 are available each day. Within five minutes of my party’s arrival, the chef brought out the duck and started carving, at which time I have not even been served tea or water. The food was good but the service (with the exception of one server) was chaotic at best.
One server was argumentative when my mom did not wish to sit next to the door while other servers walk about but do not pick up empty dishes when delivering food to the table. There needs to be some proper training of the wait staff. I felt so rushed to finish my meal and run.
It was perfect for our large group. We brought some special bottles of wine and enjoyed it with their fantastic food. Great night was had by all!
Overall experience was good. The Peking duck was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere. We will definitely go again.
Loved the duck!
I don't know what they did this time, but they totally improved since few years ago. improvement on service and staff friendliness. I went here about 2-3 yrs ago and had a really bad experience. My friend and I were hungry and came in for dinner. we waited almost 45 min, then when we got seated, we ordered a lot of food. our food came then suddenly we wondered about the steam rice. they told us last minute that they "ran out of rice" after we had all ordered these salty spicy foods. that was a big mistake for the restaurant. also, this time around I think the waiters are nicer and more attentive.
La comida es excelente, pero las crepas del pato pekinés no estaban calientes. El servicio fue muy bueno.
We were there for the pekin duck and they told us that without “reservation” in advance for the duck, there was no chance to have it.
There was not any warning at the time of booking the table.
Excellent Peking Duck and Beijing potstickers. Entertaining tea service
if you like spicy food then this is your place. Non-spicy items include excellent Peking duck among others.
There are hundreds of Chinese restaurants in SF , but very few that are really good. . This one has excellent, innovative cuisine. One very rare item is that on two recent visits, the servers were extremely friendly and EVEN helpful. That is rare.
We especially liked the siu mai pork and shrimp dumplings, the spicy Princess Wings, the Peiking Duck and the spicy pork dumplings and the vegetable delight. All of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful.
food is ok。we came for peking duck that is the only purpose worth the trip. the sichuan dishes are ok but not really distinctive. we made the reservation in advance but still waited more than 30
min after the time lot to get to the table. they actually stated they can not effectively manage the workflow. also it took them more than an hour since we were seated to bring the duck out(it's pre-ordered). another evidence for lack of good management. it was like we had a second meal. Luckily the great taste duck made the day.
Food is fantastic- Roast duck amazing; dumplings and pot stickers amazing. Everything really well done. Warm and friendly service. Highly recommend!
We went there last Friday with friends.
Food was delicious. We ordered spicy wontons, beef, duck and crabs. Everything was fresh and incredibly tasty. The waiters were super nice and professional. Best authentic Chinese restaurant in SF, no doubt !
Fantastic food, great presentation. It does get busy so I recommend going early and making a reservation for groups bigger than 5
Delicious authentic Szechuan cuisine. Only draw back is that we made reservations and still had to wait 30 min upon arrival. It’s that popular.
Food was great. But the environment is not as good as the pictures showed
Delicious food and great authentic location for a Chinese New Year feast.
The Peking duck as delicious and the price reasonable. Coming here again soon.
Service was just so-so...friendly but inefficient. Food was delicious. We had a great time and will be back for sure. If you've not eaten here before and like spicy Chinese cuisine or want the best Peking Duck this side of China -- come here!
Busy, noisy place but with rapid seating, if you make a reservation. The food was good, specially the wonderful hot and sour soup. The other two dishes we ordered, garlic shrimp and beef in chili sauce were pretty good not great. We want to go back as the menu has lots of other items that sound appealing.
Peking Duck was sublime and they even made soup from the bones. Everything was spectacular!
OK food but not worth the drive. The roast duck is below par. A little burnt.
We were 1 out of the only 2 tables there that morning. The server sat us and never came back to check on us for an order or anything. She had no problem helping the folk next to us. We left.
It was a good, family gathering spot for us. We made our reservation through Opentable then called to reserve an order of their famous Peking Duck. We were seated almost immediately even though there was a line. A staff came by to confirm our Peking Duck order & it was served, quickly. Food was good, service was prompt & friendly. An enjoyable meal. Will definitely return.
Gross bathrooms, mediocre food, but cool looking tea service. I won’t be back.
We came because we heard that Chili House had the best Peking Duck in SFO. I hadn’t had it since I lived in Beijing 10 years ago. We reserved a duck a few days ahead and while it was good, it wasn’t over the top amazing. However, it was one of the few places that I found, that served it the traditional style with wrappers instead of buns. They offered salt and pepper fried or soup for the remaining duck parts...we really didn’t want either. We also had some dumplings that were really yummy, delicious smashed cucumber salad, and we REALLY enjoyed the 8 treasures tea service! Good experience overall.
The food was pretty bad. The hot and sour soup tasted burnt. The peking duck was beautifully presented but tasteless. The shrimp had an usual taste...not sure . The only positive was the elaborate ceremony of pouring the tea. That was entertaining.
Delicious food very tasty. Great tea. Peking duck is the best!
As advertised, high quality, good value. Will definitely be back!
Fantastic food, great vibe. We had their Peking Duck (reserve in advance - they only make 20 per day!) and the best eggplant with garlic sauce we've ever experienced. Traditional accompaniments, carved table-side. The server offered soup or salt & pepper from the remaining duck bones. We couldn't believe the amount of rich, delicious soup they brought to the table. Wish we had time to go back.
Made reservation for party of 5. When we got there at reservation time, the restaurant had plenty of larger table but waitress wanted to give us a table of 4 with a seat on the side since one of the party was in a wheelchair. Told her we are uncomfortable with a small table, which she ignored. We decided to leave instead of arguing. So never was seated and didn't try the restaurant.
we had Peking Duck. Very disappointing. Duck was room temperature and the hoisin sauce was very unpleasant. A big disappointment, especially at $40+, as was a chili oil bowl with tofu. Unpleasant taste.
The only good dish was a vegetable dish sauteed with garlic.
I will not be back
We love the Chili House.
Norman and Walter are outstanding servers.
They also make outstanding recommendations.
Chili House is simply amazing. This is no ordinary Chinese restaurant. Every dish is incredible. We were with our young son so some of the extra spicy dishes were not going to work out. Even the basil chicken and Mongolian beef were sublime.
Very authentic and delicious food. We enjoyed the tea service performance. The restaurant was full with locals which indicates not only good food but good value. Chili House appears to be a great place for special celebrations.
Had a reservation but there was still an hour wait. Food was great once we sat down.
Went in for lunchtime dim sum and was not disappointed. I need to come back for dinner to try some of the main specialties.
