   I have been going to the Chili House quite a few times with various friends. The food is alway delicious. This time, we ordered the Chinese cabbage with chili pepper, the Peking duck and Steamed pork dumplings. Everything was simply outstanding. We try something different each time and we always enjoyed the food.

   Peking duck must be ordered 24 hours in advance. Cooked to perfection and plenty for 3 people. Staff is absolutely amazing too. Great experience.

   Avoid, unfortunately, I read the reviews and tried it out, and it did not live up to expectations and is a poor price performer. Not all bad, the steamed dumplings, and service, were excellent. A couple of dishes were fine but expensive. But we went because we were in the mood for pekin duck, which was dry and tasteless for $69! The serving was remarkably large, so maybe this is one of those places that gets good reviews because of large servings, but the duck is really bad and a disappointment. And this is also one of those places that I felt physically terrible (as well as regretfull that I had spend $150 for a bad alcohol-free lunch) later in the day.

   They took our booking for 8:30pm and when we arrived they said we would have to be quick as they closed at 9pm!! The main courses arrived before the starters, and they asked me to go to the till and pay at 9pm when I was half way through my meal. The next thing they had the cleaners and hoover out whilst we were still eating at 9:10pm! Very rude staff, avoid at all costs. Stay in China town.

    There’s nothing more frustrating than waiting when you are on time for your reservation and seeing other people who arrive after you get seated first. We had a 6 pm reservation for my birthday dinner and arrived on time. We stood waiting for 1 hr, watching as others who shoved past us got seated first. It also didn’t help that we could not speak Chinese and people who could were able to navigate their situations better than us. We were finally seated at 7 pm, and the food was good (pan fried noodles and beef roll pancakes pictured below). Was the 1 hr we spent eating worth the horrible 1 hr waiting experience? No. I would not eat here again, and I wouldn’t recommend any non-Chinese person eat here at a busy time either.

    Enjoyed the food, but the reservation system was a joke. Many people were sat ahead of my existing reservation. It seems that there is a printed list that a waiter holds of all the reservations and then there is a separate list for walk-ins. I saw that the waiter was trying to sit walk-ins while reservations were behind by 45mins. It seems to me that this process is quite broken and the restaurant should stick to seating reservations if they plan to take them.

    We had to wait about 20 minutes after we arrived for a 7 pm reservation on Christmas day. Boy, was the wait worth it! The restaurant was packed but service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. The portions were generous. The pancakes with the moo shu pork were amazing - delicate, almost like rice paper. The only disappointment was that we learned that the Peking duck was sold out for the holiday when we called to order it an hour before our reservation. As we ate, we watched longingly as someone carved platter after platter of roast duck. Our server took pity on us and gave us a taste of the duck that we were missing out on. Yum! A great dining experience!

    What an amazing place! Read the reviews and made sure to reserve the Peking duck in advance. Spicy wontons and mini lamb flaming clay pot were a hit. I can’t handle super spicy, but I really enjoyed the spicy wontons.

    My sister and I dined there on Christmas Day. I did not realize that they had added a 20 percent gratuity on the bill. I know this is customary for parties of 6 or more. I have never seen it added on a bill for two people. I did not pay attention to the details of the bill as we were in a rush to leave. I used my credit card to pay for the bill and put $15.00 cash as tip. The waiter came back returned my card and took the cash. He asked me if the $15.00 was for a tip. I said yes. He had the opportunity to tell me right then that the gratuity is already included but never said anything. I actually called the restaurant the next day to question the price of my bill and that is when I was told they were adding gratuity because it was Christmas Day. Sneaky!! Food was okay. Ma Pao Tofu with pork was way too salty.

    Packed on Christmas day for lunch. We had a 1:45 reservation but there was a glitch that day with open table and people’s reservations either didn’t show up or the times were incorrect. There was a line out the door with walk ins and the guy manning the list clearly had his work cut out for him. He handled it everything with composure and somehow managed to get everyone waiting seated in a reasonable time. After that the wait staff were quick, friendly and helpful. Food came out fast and was delicious. On our next trip to SF we will return for the famed duck which we sadly didn’t order.

    Happy Holidays! We had our family Christmas luncheon of 14 people here December 25. We reserved ahead, which I strongly suggest you do for any holiday. There was a line out the door of people trying to get seated. We also reserved our Peking Duck prior. And by the way, 5 stars on the duck, and the beautiful presentation. Everyone in the family has different tastes, so each person ordered a unique dish. We especially enjoyed Honey Walnut Prawns, Mongolian Beef (nice & Spicy) both Tea Smoked Duck and Peking Duck, and all of the dumplings. We were very indulgent, even had the crab. I would say that the bill came up to $46 dollars per person, but we were not shy with ordering. Every dish was excellent and fresh, with delicious seasonings. The wait staff was really hustling, as the place was hopping. They were attentive to our needs, and friendly. It is not easy to be a service worker on Christmas. I truly appreciate their hard work. We will be back!

    The Peking Duck was delicious. The meat was moist and the skin crispy. The prawns are awesome and the braised fish in chili sauce. Definitely will come again.

    Best Peking duck I’ve had in they city and equal to several places in China. The server had the right advice to order the duck first and then other dishes if we weren’t full. But we were!

    Came for Thanksgiving. They definitely need more staff and update their reservation/waitlist system. They still use pen and paper when tablets would keep things more organized. We had a reservation, but still ended up waiting over an hour for a table because they accidentally skipped us on the paper. It was busy, so this was understandable, but they can make our lives (guests) and the limited amount of staff’s lives a whole lot easier if they just upgraded with the times.

    We had heard really good things about Chili House so we were a bit disappointed by our experience. Nothing was particularly bad per se, but nothing wowed us either. The food was a bit too greasy although maybe we just happened to order the wrong set of dishes. Also, we had hoped to have the Peking duck but when we got there, we found out we had to reserve one in advance! Don’t forget to reserve a duck when you are making a reservation!

    Make sure to reserve your duck. On Thanksgiving, the later in the day you make your reservation, you might have to wait longer than you expect. Plan ahead and eat a snack, give them a break they are working really hard and their food is worth the wait. They have done so much to improve the holiday flow. It’s the best duck in town, so go with the flow or go somewhere else. Shout out to the staff for making our holiday meal so special every time we go!

    Whenever I am in San Francisco, I always go to the chili house. It is a favorite of mine and my family’s. The food is delicious, we have never had a bad dish. I highly recommend it.

    It was booked as best duck, however it was ok but nothing special. I am a regular at Peking Duck in Chinatown in nyc and it’s far superior. Also the dumplings were mushy and tasteless. I would not recommend Chili House!

    This place definitely deserves its name. More than half the items on the extensive menu are spicy. So if that's not your thing, this is not the place for you. The service was good and the food was good as well. From the hype online (i.e. famous chef with VIP clientele, we had definitely expected a bigger place with more different décor but in the end the food is all that counts. The place was packed, and many of the guests were Asians so that's a good sign. The only disappointment was that we had specifically searched for dim sum and the menu had a limited amount of dumplings.

    Chili House is amazing. I've had several items and they've all been great - my favorite was obviously the duck (which you have to order in advance) and the string beans. I'll be going back for exactly that meal again soon!

    I made the reservation for my son’s birthday. I made sure to reserve the Peking Duck special which we all enjoyed. I’m glad that the restaurant gives the option to make soup or another dish of the duck pieces with bones. Nothing is wasted. The rest of the entrees we ordered did not disappoint either. The servers are very attentive and nice. A good place for a family meal. Or, any occasion.

    Guess what, Chili didn't honor my Open Table reservation because they didn't have it on this blood re my reservation from Opentable. I showed the proof of my reservation with Opentable. It should have been a Zero rating for our meal went downhill from there with service, food, costs, etc., etc. This may dissuade me from making a reservation with OpenTable, going forward!
