Enjoyed Steak Diane and Walleye Pike.
Staff was over the top GREAT, food was superior and great ambiance
Great food and drinks in a nice dining room. Large portions and a large menu.
Worst NYE experience ever-if I could give less than a star I would. We never even were seated for our 9:15 reservation and finally left for another restaurant after 9:45. We arrived at 7:30 and checked in at the host stand, explaining that we would have a drink in the bar but would like to be notified when our table was ready. The bar area was small, and no seats at the bar were ever available for a casual drink as it was filled with people eating at the bar. The room had a door leading outside to what was obviously the smoking area, literally right next to tables and booths where people were eating in the bar area. The constant stream of people going in and out to smoke let in freezing cold air and cigarette smoke. After an hour standing in the cold air, we were breathing in so much smoke we moved to the reception area by the host stand. It was cold but the air was less smoky and smelled a little better. The music was not as loud there also. At 9:00 my husband approached the host stand to remind them we were there for our 9:15 reservation. There was a group of people there for a 9:00 reservation. They had been there for a while also. Several groups of people came in, just arriving, seemingly knowing and greeting the host, and were seated right away. 9:15 came and we approached the host again to ask to be seated. We were told to wait as our “table was not ready”. 20 minutes later we were still waiting, and the 9:00 reservation group had also not been seated even though three other groups arrived and were seated. We even stood up so a group with walkers could sit, thinking we would be polite and we would be seated before them but they were seated right away. My husband and I approached several times and the host was rude and defensive, saying tables were still full and he could not ask people to leave. The host became very hostile and we left to eat at Morton’s Steakhouse after waiting 45 minutes for our reservation. Morton’s was excellent-great food and service.
Nye with family
Tables were too crowded. People kept bumping into me as they squeezed between tables.
Wow! A simple three letter word that embodies what Chicago Prime is all about.
Entertainment, great food, and excellent service. Just remember, it ends and one must return to reality.
Thank you, George, for creating such an oasis.

First time guest. We had a wonderful time for my husband’s birthday.
The fillet mignon was outstanding and we enjoyed Tony Ocean in the bar.
Very nice Christmas dinner. Veal Chop & Filet we’re prepared very well..
Every moment during the meal was great from the greeting when we entered, the service and meal. Wonderful experience.
We were a party of four on Christmas Day, and had never been to Chicago Prime so my expectations were moderate at best. We have been to virtually every other steak house both downtown and in the suburbs, though, and I would say that Chicago Prime is on a par with Mortons or Gibson's, i.e, classic not innovative. My moderate expectations were exceeded, much to my delight. Everything was spot on, including the service. I think my favorite dish was the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer, but all the food was very good. I would go back.
All that said, this is not a place to go and expect "value." It is a classy, expensive place that provides a certain kind of experience for special occasions.
Christmas Dinner tradition with best food and service anywhere
Both the lamb and pork were undercooked and we took it home for the dogs. The service was spotty due to the amount of people there for Christmas. The other foods were very good but for those prices, I expect the meal to be top notch. It wasn't.
Always a warm, friendly & welcoming place. Staff is great, Ric & Cara are always attentive to make sure eveything is perfect. George makes time to visit every guest. Would definitely recommend!
We have dined here before, however, this time it was disappointing. Service was immensely slow (understandably it was over Christmas break), however, this would be unacceptable for anyone. Food had to be sent back and recooked. Overall, it was disappointing, because in the past I would have rated them five stars across the board.
This was our first time there and we were celebrating a birthday and an engagement. Our guests said the steaks were the best they had ever had. We only had to wait a few minutes for the table to be set but it was in a nice corner and we were able to toast and get a little loud. It was a very nice experience, one that I hope and am sure that we will do again.
I made reservations a month ahead for Christmas Eve and we get stuck at a very small table right bye the bar! Never was asked if this was alright- definitely never would have agreed to sit there. Very disappointed with everything. Have eaten there many times before. Will never make reservations on the Holidays to eat there again.
Our service was superior as was the food and the upscale, classy yet casual atmosphere. The calamari appetizer was cooked to perfection and I wish they bottled their red sauce to sell as a take home purchase. It was way too good. I actually ate it by itself with a spoon after the calamari was finished. When the bottle of wine came, the server used a new creative self-rotating decanter device to aerate our wine which was very cool to watch! The main course was salmon which is always the best you can get anywhere and we finished off by splitting the Cherries Jubilee Flambe. I am not typically one who enjoys ice cream desserts and thought I would not enjoy it but since my wife wanted it, I agreed. I must say, it was incredible! Seems to me that there is nothing this restaurant does not do well, maybe because it's family owned and they actually care about the quality of your experience. We will surely come back and bring friends.
Great local restaurant
Wonderful experience, thank you George, Arie, Myles, Josh, Cara and Sheila.
Great service from Tony. Food to perfection
Great restaurant. Great menu and wine list. Service is excellent if somewhat intrusive. Expensive but great food.
The evening was great to be with my wife but it ends there. Tony was the waiter who did a horrible job. He did not interact with us, got our order wrong, blamed the bar for the 10 minute wait for cocktails, but yet when he took 15 minutes to even approach the table when we were seated, along with him getting our salad order wrong, and then informing us that at 7:50 pm on a Saturday night that they ran out of Prime Rib. Tony never presented the steak plate presentation and was too busy directing his attention towards a party of 8 vs the dinner me and my wife were hoping to enjoy. The Manager comped an order of cocktails ($23.00 value) only after my wife complained about the poor service. Tony demeanor and level of service seemed to drop even further once a complaint was made. What a shame that such a terrific spot has failed to the degree it did. It will be tough to return anytime time soon based simply on the lack of service and the inability to correct the problems once they were aware of them.
Attentive and nice staff, festive atmosphere and terrific food. My wife and I shared a crab cake full of delectable crab, and a wonderful honey mustard sauce. My new England clam chowder had lots of flavor and hit the spot. Our entrees were spectacular, jumbo fried shrimp and prime rib cooked to perfection juicy and melt in your mouth beefy goodness.
The seven of us get together several times a year for dinner at a local restaurant - this time it was Chicago Prime.
Our reservations were for 6:15 PM on Friday the thirteenth.
We arrived a few minutes early and were immediately seated in a combo booth-table. It was an excellent location as we were sheltered from most of the noise in the restaurant. Our server was professional and cordial and, after taking our drink order, gave use time to chat and review the menu. We passed on appetizers as we are all over 65 (and as young as 85) and cannot handle that much food.
I had a filet with wild rice as a side while my wife opted for the Dover Sole (you don’t find Dover Sole on the menu at many restaurants). Others in our party selected various dishes and sides, including the Pork Chop (which was absolutely delicious), Shrimp DeJong, filets, with a side of mushrooms, and more.
We passed on the dessert as we were full from the dinner.
A nice option is they offered a $100 gift card for $75 - a great bargain for us seniors.
We will definitely be back.
The food was very good. The drinks were outstanding (ask Joshua at the bar for the Spicy Cranberry Mint Martini), but the cost was a bit beyond what the value was.
The staff and food are both amazing!!! This is our favorite restaurant in town.
This is one of my favorite steak houses in IL. It is not a big chain, it is a family business. It is personal, not over the top showboating. I used to be a big fan of Gene and Georgette in Rosemont, (that was better than the down town location), but all the staff that I interacted with over 4 years suddenly disappeared. The atmosphere went a way. I am glad I found this gem. I strongly recommend it. Price/performance ratio is good.
George the owner is always so welcoming. He’s a terrific host. Tony our server was fantastic, rememberers everything, didn’t even write our order down. We had before dinner cocktails at the bar and Miles makes Terrific martinis and old fashioned’s
Love this place, service, everything about it! Sam is a wonderful server and George is nicest person!
Great food and service.
Outstanding meal experience. Everything was outstanding from ambiance to service to food.
Had a 6pm reservation and had to wait until 6.45 to be seated and they were all out of turkey and most desserts. The staff were very apologetic but seemed very frustrated.
They ran out of turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Nothing else matters or can redeem that. Didn't help that they made us wait for our reservation.
Had 415 reservation before Thanksgiving. Lobby was packed. Gave hostess my name; told it would be a few minutes. Okay cool. Waited and waited. Asked hostess if we would be seated soon; she said just a few more minutes. Waited and waited. Told hostess we had been waiting 45 minutes. No apology just another promise of a “few minutes”. Finally left at 515 pm. Had to eat fast food for Thanksgiving dinner. NOT cool. Never again. We hadn’t been there in awhile and the restaurant in not aging well.
Despite being very busy, Service and quality not compromised at all.
Fabulous service and great food! Always a hit with us!!
We had a great Thanksgiving lunch , service was great, we didn’t try the thanksgiving special but the regular menu is great, there is no kids menu but our daughter got chicken tenders and French fries and she was super happy.
