About Chicago Firehouse Restaurant

In January 2000, The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant opened and became an integral part of the changing South Loop neighborhood. On December 10, 2014, a devastating fire started at the restaurant. Thankfully, all employees and firefighters were safe. Matthew O’Malley immediately vowed to rebuild.
Over the course of two years, the restaurant was redesigned and rebuilt. The redesign includes a larger bar area, the addition of a solarium with floor to ceiling windows for increased seating, enhanced private dine rooms and a beautiful 2nd floor veranda. Guests will now enter through the Firehouse’s original entrance on 14th Street.

Loved the old restaurant before the fire. Was eager to go back after the re-build. I will try it again sometime but this time was a bit underwhelmed. The scallops which I always ordered in the past were very "fishy" and I just found the restaurant to be more "bar-like" in atmosphere rather than fine dining; however the prices did not translate. Nothing stays the same in life, I guess.

Food Expensive, side dishes small for the price, waiter tried to steer towards items that were not what we wanted with limited knowledge of steak items.

The Firehouse not only renovated after the fire, they revamped their whole dining “experience”. So refreshing! Finally, a south loop restaurant restaurant that is deserving of five stars across the board! 😁 👍❤️

There was construction nearby so there was infernal beeping and loud diesel motors. The steak tartare was just piles of raw meat in large chunks that were sinuey and chewey.

First time visit to Chicago and was looking for a nice place to take my wife for dinner. This place turned out to be just a few blocks from where we were staying. Expensive, but great food and service!

My wife and I celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Firehouse because we had our wedding dinner there 7 years ago. We used to go there often before it burned down. When it came back we were thrilled! We made a reservation and saw our waiter David it was a great reunion. This time we went and had a server by the name of George who basically ignored us! We don't drink and that's were he makes his money . There were a lot of company dinners going on and that's where his attention went to. The dinner was "okay" the side dishes were horrible...we were very disappointed!

Arrived 5 mins early and asked for a table outside, was told to wait at the bar while our table was being prepared. After ten mins of waiting went to hostess to ask what was going on and they said the server outside was overwhelmed and they asked us to wait an additional 15 mins, in which i said NO and asked for a table inside. They never offered to sit me n my wife inside, i had to. But the manager did comp us a free bowl of lobster bisque and one free drink. Overall good food and nice people but very unorganized up front.

Good service. The food was good, especially the bread. The price was a bit high. The steak was good but I just don't think it was good enough to be priced at $68. Del Frisco's and Gene & Georgetti cost the same/less and they are arguably two of the best in Chicago.

This is a very interesting restaurant with a nice menu. My only real complaint is that we asked for some condiments for the burger and they didn't bring them until towards the end of the meal.

One of the best restaurants in Chicago. Excellent food. Varied menu so it's not just a steak house. Relaxed atmosphere but smart enough to impress. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Excellent meal with a great ambience. The Firehouse had a fire and completely remodeled. The space is wonderful with several options for dining, room with windows, outdoor patio, terrace, and a front room with bar and booths. Will definitely go back. Would highly recommend if you don't want to be crammed into "the place of the moment" but just want great food, good value, and a relaxed experience.

Not sure why this place is so highly rated. Service is the worst I’ve had in Chicago and the food is only fair. We were not acknowledged for 20 minutes after being seated and only after I flagged down a server. Also, couldn’t seem to get eating utensils with the appetizers until I asked. Neither the server or manager was apologetic. We will never be back and certainly won’t refer our friends.

A good and reliable neighborhood steakhouse if you are craving something above bar food but don't want to drive far or generally want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the River North area. Has a lovely back patio for outdoor dining and valet parking.

Beautiful bar and dining areas, bartenders were very attentive. Food was very good (Dover Sole and Pork Chop) with the exception of one of our side dishes, the corn elote (too soupy). Our waiter could have been a little more attentive. We wanted to order another glass of wine with our entrees, but he disappeared for too long once they arrived. Deserts were huge, definitely shareable. We will return.

First time back since they reopened. Six in our party. Honestly felt it was overpriced. The sides came out room temperature at best. Service was great. Decor was beautiful. I don't see any of us coming back. Too many other options in the city.

Had a great time there, went for a business dinner, the steak was fantastic! The server we had was Phillip, he did an excellent job of serving us and making great suggestions for both wine, dinner and dessert. We sat outside in the courtyard they have, was nice to be outside. Strongly recommend this dining experience.

This was our second time back to the Chicago Firehouse since their remodel and reopening. It is bigger and better than ever. Beautiful inside and out and the food seems to have gotten even better which is odd since it was so good before. The service is what sets this place apart for me. Our server Philip was extremely attentive and even more friendly. We had another amazing dinner at the Firehouse. Will be back for brunch! There brunches are amazing! Also, love the secluded outdoor space.

One of the best classic Chicago steakhouses, with a brighter, updated interior since the fire. Glad to see the place back in business & doing well. The bone-in ribeye was packed with full flavor & delicious! It even beat the bone-in filet for flavor, and that was no easy accomplishment.

Will be back!
