About Chicago Firehouse Restaurant

In January 2000, The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant opened and became an integral part of the changing South Loop neighborhood. On December 10, 2014, a devastating fire started at the restaurant. Thankfully, all employees and firefighters were safe. Matthew O’Malley immediately vowed to rebuild.
Over the course of two years, the restaurant was redesigned and rebuilt. The redesign includes a larger bar area, the addition of a solarium with floor to ceiling windows for increased seating, enhanced private dine rooms and a beautiful 2nd floor veranda. Guests will now enter through the Firehouse’s original entrance on 14th Street.

The server was amateur and did not do a good job of maintains the table. Wait times for each course was delayed, the lobster bisque did not include lobster chunks and the 20oz bone in ribeye was over cooked and lacked flavor.

The servers excuse for every issue seemed to be she was a new server since 11/2017 and the menu is being revamped. I’m not sure if “menu changes/ revamped” was code for new chef.

I made a comment/complaint to the manager about the food and service because I had never received such horrible service on my visits to firehouse and his response/demeanor was I only have been here 3 days sorry. It was a very nonchalant attitude and a shrug of the shoulders as to say oh well your service was bad.

Needless to say, I will not be back or recommend firehouse to anyone. Which is shame because I live I. The neighborhood and I try to support the neighbor restaurants since it’s only a few.

Entrees were either overcooked (filet flights) and therefore dried out or in case of Filet Oscar the topping was completely cold. Lobster Bisque was quite good however. Raised issue with server and nobody actually cared. All eight in attendance agreed we probably won't return.

We were told they have very good streaks here, and holy smokes were they not kidding. The steaks were phenomenal, along with the side dishes.

It is on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Great food and great service. I highly recommend this to couples.

Server was fantastic. The place was empty and we waited at least half hour between apps and dinner. The prime rib was tough and the pork chops was tasty but dry! The lobster mac and cheese was lacking cheese, it was noodles and a few pieces of lobster. We brought the kids there years ago and it was fabulous. This visit was diasppointing.

This could’ve been an off day. Nonetheless, service was slow, our waiter was curt and the food was average.

After waiting 35 min for our server to take our brunch order, we finally flagged down the 1st employee who’s attention we could grab (it happened to be the manager) and asked him to send our server to the table. Our server arrived shortly and delivered stank attitude service the duration of our meal.

Beautiful space; however, given the range of fine dining options in the Loop, my experience deters a return trip.

Rather boring dinner for New Year's eve! I was told earlier that there would be live music, and then when we got there, there was nothing special going on. It was like the restaurant thought that NYE was an average Sunday night! They have music there all the time, but not on New Year's? God only knows why not! Maybe the staff wanted to go home early so they could party? Very disappointing.

We were very excited to try this restaurant but were very unimpressed. The restaurant itself is a very cool place with a great ambiance but other than that it misses the mark. They were out of the braised short rib and Mac and cheese on New Year’s Eve. The oysters we had were low quality and very fishy. The Brussels sprouts tasted like the cook dropped the salt shaker in them. And the filet was just average. The service was also pretty poor. They gave us the wrong drink mixed drink and wouldn’t bring the correct drink after we questioned the mixup. We won’t be going back. For a pricy dinner I expect a lot more.

My husband and I came here for date night and overall had a great time. The food was good... The brussel sprouts were delicious! The drinks were really really strong...A little too strong for my taste, but the restaurant had a nice ambiance. We enjoyed the live band, and all of the staff were helpful and pleasant. My husband ordered the steak Diane, and loved every bite. I had the scallops... They were ok. The lobster Mac and cheese could use more seasoning. Overall we were pleased, and will probably attend again.

Overall very happy with our experience but the steak temperatures were not spot on. Didn’t send them back but medium rare was medium plus and the medium well was medium to medium rare. Mushroom side were over cooked. Everything else was great. Super friendly staff just wish the steaks came out a little better.

My first visit since the Firehouse reopened. The interior looks completely different, much more open and very attractive. Part of the (beautiful) outdoor patio has been incorporated into the interior so it's almost like an atrium. We were greeted immediately by the hostess and the table service was good as well. The food was very good and ample portions. The only slight issue was the scallops could have been rinsed more thoroughly ( tiny bit sandy) but were well prepared. Delicious creme brûlée for dessert! Overall, very nice evening and will definitely be back.

Revised. I went a little hard with no help to fix things. Apologize. We did not enjoy our Xmas eve dinner.
Great space just horribly executed.
-service was not personable and quite slow for ordering/running drinks.
-every single dish we ordered besides the steak frites was not good or there was something very wrong. Check the oysters before you send them out. A lot of shells pieces and they were bad smelling, very bad.
I’d be remissed to not mention the host being really kind and nice. Most likely will not return.

First time return since the post fire re-open. So disappointed in the reception, and seating in the upstairs overflow, rather than the main dining room that we had once loved. Had we known, we'd have chosen another venue. I would like to have heard about the restaurant's re-build journey rather than the hostess (with attitude) no longer a manager at a place down the street. Set the tone for the cold room we were seated in. That said, the food and server were both excellent. No, we will not return.

This is the 2nd time at the new and improved Fire House.
Food was awesome!
We asked for bar seating. We were seated at a lovely banquet. It was very dark in our lovely corner.
Our guests (interior designer) kept offering suggestions for the problem to no avail.
Our waiter was not the best either.
Couldn’t be bothered with lighting.
Was not very professional nor attentive for the amount t of money we spent.

Very disappointed in the food. Took a bit more time to get our main course and when it arrived it wasn't hot, at best it was lukewarm. My pork was too pink in the center. Not wanting to disturb our party I took it home and microwaved it. Also a large party was in the main room so it was difficult to hear our friends conversation. Was so looking forward to this dinner in the new Firehouse, I probably won't return.

I went after work to meet a few of my girlfriends for holiday dinner and drinks, and we were pleased to find there was live music in the Bar! We had to stay in there for a cocktail (or three), because the ambiance was hard to leave. We were then seated by our host (who had the cutest velvet boots), and took us to our table. The Dining room was a wonderful experience and our server George really took great care of us girls. We shared a seafood tower and a punch bowl, and I got the filet, which was cooked perfectly. It might be the punch talking, but I think I'm in love.

I am very reluctantly writing this review. We have tried direct contact with the restaurant and have been put off multiple times. Someone will call us back. The manager is out and will call. We are done trying to understand. Dinner turned into a 3 hour event. Waiter was distracted. Sat with dirty dishes between courses for at least ten if not twenty minutes. Steak was served not even warm. Given the choice of 15 to 20 minutes for a new steak while holding up the table or reheat the steak that was not cooked properly. Waiter had warned there was a kitchen issue. Sides sat on the table cooling as our guests waited. Gave up and asked for take home bags. Got home and the steak and potatoes had not been packed up. All this for the low price (after removing the steak) of $446. We did not want money. We wanted a nice birthday dinner. I was embarrassed that we chose Firehouse that we had really promoted.

Big fans in the past. Super disappointed in the evening and follow up. Guess they are busy enough that one complaint does not matter.

Restaurant owners have contacted us. Just a bad night. We will work through this together. Willing to give them another chance 12/ 14

Had the rib eye steak; melted in my mouth. The creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts were good also. The prices were higher than I expected since everything is ala carte. Would be nice to at least include a salad with you order. The rolls could be improved; bland. It's nice to have a variety of bread/rolls .

My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here. I chose this place because of the location and the building, beautifully redecorated. We were greeted and seated immediately and received excellent service. They serve our favorite: lobster bisque, plus my wife's favorite wine, and even one or two beers I hadn't tried before. The only long wait was to correct my dessert order, but I can't complain since it was complimentary (I let Open Table know the occasion). Our only complaints are the prices and the lack of a restroom on the first floor.

New renovation is very nice. However we were seated in the central section at a 4-top table where the only light was a small oil lamp on the table. There were ceiling recessed fixtures but the manager refused to turn them on -- even with a dimmer. We sat and ate in the dark.

We had brunch here which was fine. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was very good. My reason for marking it down a bit was for the extra call you get on the phone AFTER you make a reservation on Open Table. Chicago Firehouse is not the only restaurant that does this, but I find it terribly annoying. You make the reservation, then get a voicemail asking you to call back and confirm the reservation. The entire reason I use Open Table is to NOT make a phone call, let alone have a reservation require two steps, BOTH digital and phone. There were only 3 tables in the entire restaurant booked for brunch... I think they could have taken a chance that we were going to show up without the additional harassment.

The restaurant is super clean and organized. The bar is very large. The staff is pretty friendly...The hostess was good; not exceptional but the waiter and busboy were in deed outstanding. They really wanted to make sure we liked everything. A glass of wine at the bar was $11. Maybe that's normal these days; I'm not sure. They sat us in a very nice, quiet booth and we started with a salad. My wife thought her salad was "brown". I couldn't tell but she sent it back. I had the wilted spinach salad and it was great. I loved the egg, the dressing, the candied nuts on it - It was perfect for me. And plentiful. Then I had the skirt steak and fries ($24). I really enjoyed it. The cooked it just right and it was quite tasty and tender. The fries were good too. The wife had a cheeseburger ($17). She said it was excellent. I also had a coke which came in a little glass bottle - very much a treat bc I'm sure the soda in those glass bottles have more fizz and more something that just makes it taste great. Loved it. No dessert - we were ubering off to the theatre right after. Some of the steaks here are $40 and up so be prepared to spend some money. You are treated extremely well. The waiters know you are spending some money so they really take the time and effort to make it worth it for you. I will come here again and think you will be glad if you come here as well.
