Perfect For:
  • Special Occasion
  • Good for Anniversaries
  • Good for a Date
In January 2000, The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant opened and became an integral part of the changing South Loop neighborhood. On December 10, 2014, a devastating fire started at the restaurant. Thankfully, all employees and firefighters were safe. Matthew O’Malley immediately vowed to rebuild.
Over the course of two years, the restaurant was redesigned and rebuilt. The redesign includes a larger bar area, the addition of a solarium with floor to ceiling windows for increased seating, enhanced private dine rooms and a beautiful 2nd floor veranda. Guests will now enter through the Firehouse’s original entrance on 14th Street.

I love The Chicago Firehouse! The atmosphere is lively and the energy is really positive regardless of whether you’re dining in the lovely formal dining room or in the bar with its beautiful, original Tiffany Co. glazed white tile from it’s firehouse days. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and not pretentious. The food is very good, decent wine and cocktail list. It’s one of my favorite, feel like spending a couple of extra buck places!

Was warmly greeted by our waiter who was very attentive. The service was great and so was the food from the chicken to the steak.

Our server, Julian, led the way in providing an exceptional dining experience. Julian was extremely knowledgeable of Chicago Firehouse's history, as well as details of their menu and was attentive throughout our dinner. His demeanor set an environment in which the food had every chance to succeed. And succeed it did. Crab cakes and roasted baby octypus were great. Soup du jour (split pea with interesting subtle spices) and puff pastry bisque were out of this world. All four of our party enjoyed first class steaks--Oscar Diane filet, 3 separately topped filets, ribeye. Specialty cocktails are worth trying.

We had high hopes as the setting is beautiful. The food is good but nothing memorable. This is definitely a meat place as the fresh fish options were very limited and unappealing. The service left a great deal to be desired. We will not be returning.

My favorite part of the meal was the cocktails - they were superb - all around. We each tried a different option. The salads looked good, but I opted for the calamari, which was a bit greasy by comparison to some of my favorite places in town. The scallop dish I ordered was downright skimpy, three scallops and some undercooked fennel with a cream sauce and canned mandarin oranges. The pork chop a friend tried was delicious, and the roasted chicken looked equally good. The creamed spinach was really delicious. We shared a slice of the carrot cake which was a surprise - instead of the massive giant wedge of cake, it was composed of numerous thin layers with a light cream cheese frosting.

We live in the South Loop and were so excited when The Firehouse reopened. We went a number of times and loved the food. We even told the owner that the food was so much better than before the fire. Unfortunately this most recent visit the quality had changed significantly. Both our steaks came out overcooked. On the second try mine was undercooked. And the steak seemed to be a lower quality. The waiter and managers were very nice and very apologetic. I asked if the chef was still the same one they reopened with. I learned that he is no longer there. Very sad and disappointed because whoever the new chef is, he does not measure up to the previous chef.

I would recommend this restaurant ONLY for special occasions like a date night, an anniversary, before going to the theater, etc. It is a very formal place and I actually liked that about the restaurant. With that being said, it's not a place I would frequent often. It is very expensive and very glamorous.

We haven't been there in 4 years. Wife and I went there to celebrate anniversary. Tim, our host, Giovanni, our bartender while we waited for table, and Matthew, our waiter were all fabulous and made this new experience at The Firehouse, the most enjoyable. We told Gio, the bartender that we were celebrating our anniversary and he spread the word to staff who with their warm wishes made our evening even more special. Thank you all and we will be back soon.

Easter brunch food was very disappointing. Carved beef was so rare it was inedible. We watched plate after plate picked up with uneaten beef on it. Desserts also disappointing. Basically just muffins.

This was our 3rd Easter Brunch at the Firehouse (1st since the reopening). We had a large party and the service was spectacular. The server was very attentive but not intrusive. The food, as always, was great. The only disappointment was no oysters this time!

This is probably our 4th or 5th time celebrating Easter at Chicago Firehouse and overall we were very disappointed. We found the selection to be lacking in comparison to other years and many of the people in our group experienced cold food! The french toast and eggs benedict were cold as well as other dishes. We didn't feel like the quality and attention were there this year and we more than likely will not be returning. Wish we felt differently as our experiences in the past have keps us coming back. Thanks for allowing the chance to provide feedback.

Less than impressed with the Easter Brunch. We were in Chicago for the weekend and thought we would try as the reviews were great. I would expect that for $200 (2 adults / 2 children) the meal would at least be warm, but food was mediocre and cold. Atomosphere was great, seemed like a good place for drinks. Overall disappointed, will never return.

For some reason the host sat us at the very first table in the dining room across from the service station... there was only 1 other table in the restaurant. Not sure why she wouldn’t seat us away from the main walkway. We ended up moving to a table one over in order to not feel that we were in the way. Also, it was dark in the dining room, the lights were not all on.. only the wall sconces were on.

The renovation/ restoration looks great.

It was a beautiful restaurant, lots of ambiance & atmosphere was nice.
We were looking for a nice place that both our kids (ages 11 & 14) and my husband and I would all enjoy. The reviews that we read had mentioned it would be a great place for kids as well as adults. I would not recommend this restaurant for families w/ kids under 18, it’s really more of an adults only kind of place. Aside from all that, I was really looking forward to a wonderful meal. The menu looked appealing but when the food arrived it was pretty bland to say the least. My husband and I ordered a filet, lobster tail, brussel sprouts & potatoes. The kids both had pastas. Nothing stood out, very sub par. We really wanted to love it, but unfortunately the food did not live up to our expectations. Too bad because it is a beautiful restaurant.

We really like the restored interior following the fire a few years ago. Food was tasty especially the Monkey Bread that we were served shortly after we were seated. The food presentation could do with some attention, and it was odd to receive what would be a half portion of an Eggs Florentine in other restaurants. Server was helpful, professional, and attentive.
