Chop House is a Chicago staple that offers more than turf. The food is done just right!
Hector is the BEST! Such a hard worker and team player!
Outstanding in every aspect from reception to packaging the leftovers, unpresidential service and food. This is real Chicago Fine Dining!
Had to walk up 3 flights of stairs to be seated in a corner. Our food portions were large, however my prime rib was undercooked (ordered medium came out med rare), I sent it back and when it was returned, it was well done. Servers walked near our table several times with water refill and rolls/butter. Never once stopped over at our table to see if we wanted any refills. For te reputation and prices that they charge, I expected more.
I reserved a table here for our son’s birthday. The reservation process was not exactly friendly admonishing me that we could not be more than 15 minutes late and there would be a $15 “Covid fee”. The hostess greeted us and said Happy Birthday to our son. The paper menus gave more rules about not taking your mask off unless eating or drinking, a 2 hour limit to be at the table blah blah blah. The waiter took our drink order and came back with them and disappeared. We called him over 30 minutes later to ask for bread which the bus staff brought. We wanted to order appetizers but couldn’t find our waiter. By the time we called him over we decided that we would be better off ordering dinner since we had already been there an hour. He took our dinner orders and we waited again. Eventually we asked a passing waiter for more bread which he brought. Finally the meals came out. The food was very good but the server never checked back. We sat and waited and waited and waited for the plates to be cleared and finally had to catch his eye again. I had hoped that there might be a little piece of cake with a candle in it for the birthday but by this time, our son had to leave. The rest of us would have loved desert but figured that we’d be there for another hour waiting for that. The waiter apologized saying there had been an “emergency “ and we could speak to the manager. However the manager was also taking orders at other tables so we declined. They tack on a 17% service charge (for a party of 4) so you cannot tip according to the service you receive. The bill came to $400 without appetizers or desert. We won’t be back. Capital Grill or Maestros has similar pricing but much are much more diner friendly and welcoming. I have a feeling Chicago Chop House doesn’t care though.
Amazing food! Our server was personable and respectful of our space. Felt very Covid safe.
Quality of food was excellent, especially during Covid. We got steaks, the spinach, truffle Mac and cheese, drinks. Waiter was really good and attentive with just the right cadence. Definitely going back and sitting outside.
Went for birthday dinner. The service was outstanding, food was excellent.
Great atmosphere, food, and service every time we go there!!!
My waiter, Franco, was very nice and friendly. He made my date feel welcome for his 1st visit. The lobster escargot is amazing!
The Chop House has long been one of our favorites, but this most recent visit was disappointing. The petite filet was incredibly tough. I had to ask for a better steak knife to cut through the gristle of this $50 steak. The steak's flavor was mediocre. My companion's pork chop was better as was the always good french onion soup. My wedge salad was terrific, helped offset the disappointment with the steak.
A little pricey for appetizers/entrees/2 drinks and splitting dessert but everything was delicious and the service was exceptional!
The food was good. But we were outside and when a bee landed and crawled around on my plate, I stopped eating and was not even halfway done. I was still charged but did not get to really enjoy the food. The service was a little slow as the same thing was close happening to my daughter's food and the waiter took forever to bring a box.
But the brunch was really good and the ambience was good besides the bees.
Our server was having a bad night. I believe his name was JB. Long story short his poor attitude and lack of attention showed in the service we received I probably wouldn’t return there because of that. The service overall from staff just wasn’t that great. We spent a ton of money in there to receive terrible service. The Lobster Mac was delicious though !!
Food was excellent , we had a dry aged cowgirl and the dry aged grand filet - both steaks were fantastic. Lobster “escargot” to start was a great choice. However it took us a little over an hour and a half from being seated until main course arrived - service was not that attentive , restaurant was very busy and I understand covid presents additional challenges but still seemed very slow.
Food was great but service was very slow. They had one server working the entire outside area on a Saturday night. He was doing the best he could so I don't blame him- management.
Not a reasonable price restaurant, the food prices are over rated
My daughters birthday was an amazing experience for her first time fine dining
The beast steak and freat malbec
Food was excellent and the server was superb. However I do have to say it was quite expensive. We split a salad and split a potato. I had a cowgirl ribeye and my date had petite fillet and we had three glasses of wine. With the tip the bill was $275. Tip was included in the check. I know that wine can add up to the bill so without the wine it was probably around $225.
It was my birthday dinner and it was exceptional the waiter was very attentive and made sure as soon as we were seated he greeted us and asked if we would like water
Amazing service and great food
Very disappointed in the taste and quality of the food. I will never choose to dine here again and strongly recommend against it. There are much better places than this.
Incredible service and even better food. No doubt I’ll return!
Everything was great
Very attentive staff. Live music was nice. Steak cooked to exact order.
If you want a remarkable dinner experience with old Chicago flair, this is the place!
The food was great had the New York steak with garlic butter it was great.
Fantastic as usual!
The food was delicious
We were in there by ourselves
Requested a high top by the piano they put us upstairs by ourselves
Server did not love having my two girls with us. They are extremely well behaved and he made a comment about turning off their iPads
Again only ones eating on the entire second floor
In these times in Chicago I wouldn’t be chasing away people that can afford the high price tag of the Chophouse or that are willing to visit downtown during a pandemic. Next time will visit a more welcoming spot.
We really enjoy Chicago Chop House! It has become one of our favorite steak house restaurants in Chicago! We can't wait to return.
First let me start with the COVID protocols: as soon you checked in, the hostess checks your temperature. All tables were spaced out for social distancing. On our table was a bottle of "Chop House" hand sanitizer. All of the staff was wearing masks at all times and we were required to have our masks on at all times except when actively eating and drinking. The staff is amazing in their attentiveness (shout out to Joseph, J.B and Omar). Food is fantastic, from chicken/waffles, East Coast oysters, benedicts, waffles and French toast. And of course those $5 Moet mimosas. I have been there four Sundays in a row and not had a bad meal or experience. The chef is also very accommodating in allow additions to dishes, like steak on the Chilaquiles (totally recommend) or the addition of pecans to my French toast. Total dining experience for me.
The food was not great... I think you could find better steaks in the city but for sure a cute location.
JB, our server, was great. Best prime rib ever!
Meat Was Fatty & Side Dishes Had No Flavor, Very Over Priced....
Waiter Didn't Check On Us After The Food Hit The Table.
Great food, drinks, service & atmosphere. Top dollar on the bill, to match. Worth the price if you have it.
Amazing service. Amazing food. Will be back next time we’re in Chicago!
The food was perfect & our server JB was awesome!
We discovered that the Chop House was serving brunch and decided to check it out. I have to say that their brunch selections are on point. Highly recommend the East Coast oysters, the chicken/waffles, French Toast (classic and strawberry) and the Chilaquiles (ask for steak to be added, excellent dish). Service is amazing, from the hostesses to our servers that we recently had (Joseph, J.B., and Omar). And of course they have amazing deals if you are on Facebook ($25 bottle of Moet, $5 mimosa made with Moet, 25% off brunch food).
