The food was not good. We were especially concerned because it did not seem fresh. We went on a weekend night and there were many open tables yet it took a very long time for our order to get to our table. The manager did come out and apologize for the lack of freshness and long time it took the food to get to the table. He comped one of the items. I understand the manager was trying to recover, but we will not be returning.
The friendliest servers around with good drinks and food. Definitely a regular favourite of mine
It was delicious. We had the Hawaiian fish, lemon grass hot and sour soup, a Mardi Gras roll, edamame, crispy salmon, duck spring rolls. Several martinis. Great service.
The Sake Oyster Shooter was amazing!!
Excellent food, duck salad was great, and sushi was fresh. Alcohol a bit overpriced. Service was very good but a tad slow, understandable given its really busy on the day we went
2nd bday celebration and it hasn’t disappointed.
Good, not great, Sushi near Tulane University. I ate there with my 9 year old son over HOmecoming weekend. Service was friendly and quick and the sushi was solid.
WOW was our experience @ Chiba fantastic! By far, surpassed our expectations & well worth the trip. For both locals & tourists alike, it's the perfect diversion from the traditional Cajun/Creole overload we were on during our three day stay in the French Quarter. We were greeted by the most hospitable host who allowed us to scan the room for the perfect spot. We choose a booth just off the bar & again, were greeted with the warmest, friendliest & most adorable bartender who also served as our waitress. Being a party of 4 vegan females...we can be a tough camp at times. She patiently explained our options not only on the menu, but also around town. This spacious, Asian inspired eclectic warehouse setting was the perfect mix of both sophisticated & totally hip. Clean, inspiring & lotsa local art. The food was presented beautifully & was absolutely delicious. All eight of our thumbs are up high & HIGHLY recommend this New Orleans CAN'T MISS!
Food was good, the special bread pudding dessert thing was amazing. And Robbie our server was great
We didn't think it was possible to get a bad meal in NOLA. Sadly, we were incredibly mistaken. We love sushi and have had it in many cities all over the world. This food is absolutely terrible. Very poor quality, nasty fish. We are back home drinking tea and trying to settle our stomachs. So very bad.
My boyfriend and I had a great date night at Chiba. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. Our waiter Rob was delightful. Overall great evening. Would recommend for anyone who is looking for quality sushi in the Nola
Selected by family for a graduation celebration and the restaurant was able to meet expectations for a very wide range of ages (2-70) and palates (including vegetarians). Wait staff very pleasant.
Everything we had, appetizers, nigiri, sushi, dessert, and sake were excellent. Our server, "Don" Rob was amazing. Attentive, friendly, professional, amazing. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for good sushi in New Orleans!!!!!
If a party of two, the window tables are very nice.
It was very quiet. Service was prompt and the menu had a ton of variety. Sushi was very good
Great sushi. A notch above most. Fresh and flavorful.
Whitney is the best! We eat there a few times a month and treats us great. She remembers our drinks, the dishes we liked from the previous visits, and always makes great recommendations. I strongly suggest you try this spot. The Mexican Grand Prix is my favorite! Truly a unique and creative dish!
I find that there's a dearth of good sushi in NOLA, but I'm glad to have found Chiba. The service was very good and the sushi was all fresh and well made. The seaweed salad was particularly large in its portion, which is unusual. The décor is very modern and overall the place has a very nice vibe.
we came on christmas day. The hostess informed us that even though we had a 9 pm reservation, that they overbooked and it was a 45 minute wait. I asked multiple times for a free table, and eventually we were seated. We ordered a soup and it came cold, and had to be sent back. We ordered 3 rolls, to keep it simple -- no specialty rolls. it took over 1.15 minutes for the sushi to come. To be fair, it was christmas day and packed. But they overbooked and the food was average
Fantastic service and food. Love the late-night hours, and all the happy hour options, since I work in the service industry and live nearby. This place is my favorite for sushi!
The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was impressive.
Our waitress, Hannah, had knowledge of the daily specials. She got our food out in a timely manner too! We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us free dessert!
I can't wait to go again!
A couple rolls are named after formula 1 drivers and tracks. Interesting twist to see such a thing incorporated into the menu. The only downside is the servers don't always know what items have been 86'd for the night. Overall 4 out of 5 stars. Check um out.
Great Sushi!! Great place to eat!! Would highly recommend.
Great service, high quality Sushi at a reasonable price. Took my Sister here for her birthday we had a great time. Service was spot on and the food was incredible! We can't wait to get back.
Everything we ordered was delicious. The wait staff was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. The portions were nice sizes and the prices were good. I highly recommend.
Sushi with a twist! Not your same old sushi rolls and the sashimi is artfully presented. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
This was my third time back enjoyed the crispy salmon every time .
They have the freshest fish, it is amazing. The sashimi is the best I have had.
Chiba is pricey but you get what you pay for.
over expensive and very little food for the price. was more hungry when i left than when i arrived!
My wife and I find at Chiba for the first time. We recently moved to NOLA from the Inner Loop area of Houston, where there are many good Japanese restaurants.
We thought the food at Chiba was excellent. The service was attentive and friendly. We do plan to come back. However, in the interest of improvement, I did find the wine list to be overpriced and not particularly of interest to me. And, the nose level was much too high - they should consider investing in sound dampening accoutrements.
After a couple of days of good but predictable NOLA food, we said Enough....let's have sushi. We very very happy with everything, from drinks to final bill. The spicy scallop hand rolls were wonderful.
Chiba is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in New Orleans. Others cannot hold a candle to their fresh, delectable rolls and sashimi. Try the refreshing Tuna ceviche for a tangy appetizer and the satsuma-strawberry roll for an entree. If you're lucky enough to catch their happy hour, it will become one of your favorite places to be at 4 o'clock. Perfect for a date spot or just a night out with friends. To top it all off, Chiba is located on booming Oak Street where you can get everything from coffee, craft beer, high-end cocktails, live music, and so much more. Never had a bad experience, and the service is always friendly yet professional. Although it may be pricey for some, it is definitely worth every penny. I highly highly recommend it.
There are only two sushi restaurants in NOLA that I like: Chiba and Rock-N-Sake. I think they are equally good but I'm often not up for parking in the Warehouse District. So I was thrilled a few years ago when Chiba opened. Oak Street is just a great area and easy to get to from most parts of the city, so that's a big plus for me (and for meeting friends out when we're all coming from different locations). I keep going back because the fish is absolutely fresh, their rolls are creative (in a good way), and they have an excellent sake menu. I'm so spoiled by the quality of the sushi at Chiba that I just won't go anywhere else (other than an occasional trip to RnS). The service is always friendly and the bar scene is fun. The only negative for me is that I find the music to loud (so they probably know who is writing this since I sometimes ask them to turn it down). I would much prefer they play more relaxed music--would fit the atmosphere of the restaurant better anyway--at a lower volume. I would probably linger even longer and have even more sake. :-)
Chiba always has high-quality fish and creative sushi dishes. It's a little pricy, but mostly worth it. Their happy hour is unbeatable and their sake list is extensive. Not a place I can afford every week, but definitely a fun spot for a fancy sushi night out! (As an aside, they have one of the best waitstaffs in the city!)
The specialty rolls are twice the price of a normal roll but the same size as normal rolls with some stingy additives placed on top. Nothing we ordered tasted remarkable. It was an overall disappointing and bland experience.
They were short a sushi chef the night I went and they took forever to get my meal. Poor planning and cramped seating.
My wife and I went here for a fun Valentine's date. The place is very neat and has a great selection of food. We ordered the steamed buns and a variety of rolls. The buns were such a neat item and would definitely come back for them! The rolls were good as well, but nothing really wow'ed us. The service was pretty slow, but they were very apologetic saying that they were short staffed as well as extremely busy.
Tried something new for my birthday. Great atmosphere, younger crowd that obviously didn't have to factor in the cost of a babysitter for their evening. Waitress was great in covering recommended sashimi and drinks. We will be back for our next date night.
