Chianti's Italian Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
Service Sucked: Sorry to be so blunt but it is what it is. My husband & I went here for dinner on a Tuesday night. It wasn't busy. The waitress took a long time to greet us. Took our order and someone else delivered our food. She never came back to ask if the food was good, if we wanted more wine or water. My husband had to bring our empty glasses to the bar to get water refills and he asked for the check. I had the Shrimp Fra Diablo and the sauce was VERY watery and it was all at the bottom of the dish. The food was cooked well just wish the sauce wasn't like water. The bartender brought us our tab and when the waitress finally showed up to retrieve it she never apologized. Perhaps she had an off night so we still gave her a good tip. But jeez
We went as a family for a Christmas season dinner. The ambiance was OK, but a bit loud. I was disappointed to have to ask to have our table candle lit, but then noticed only one other was lit on our side of the dining room. We ordered three different entrees. The swordfish special was very good, the pasta bolognese was good, but the veal saltambucca was VERY disappointing. The cheese was not melted, the veal was in odd square shapes that seemed very unnatural, was tough, and the overall dish was lukewarm - as if the kitchen were in a hurry to get it out. Not awful, but expected better.
Chianti's has excellent Italian food and seafood. Portions, especially for the Italian dishes are always large enough for another meal to take home. My husband has the veal sorrento, which is layers of veal, eggplant, cheese in an authentic tomato sauce with pasta on the side. I usually get the bolognese, but was tempted by a swordfish special and I was glad I made the choice. The service there is efficiant, the wine portions are generous, and especially given the size of the portions, Chianti's delivers great value with excellent food.
I was very disappointed with Chianti's during this visit. I have been coming here for many years and have always loved it. It seems like there's all new wait staff working here except for bar staff. I has a reservation and was seated right away but after 10 minutes I had to flag a hostess to ask if waitress knew we were seated. We finally got menus and waters. Our waitress was new and couldn't open a bottle of wine and had to bring it back to the bar to get help. I had to ask her about the specials for the evening . We ordered our meals and calamari for appetizer. The calamari was excellent. My wife's pasta meal was great but I ordered swordfish with just butter not lemon butter and it came out cooked DRY. The waitress had to go get me melted butter from the kitchen which didn't help much. I sure she didn't communicate my request properly to the kitchen. I should have sent the meal back. What bothered me most about the night was our waitress never came back to our table to fill our waters or even ask us how our food was after serving it. Very bad experience overall. We do love the Chianti's but food and especially service its not the same as before. We might try again one more time but I miss Vinnie. Anyone who has been coming here for years like me knows what I'm talking about.
We were seated quickly then were approached by three different servers, then waited. Had to ask for bread, never got a dish for our appetizer. Meal was good. Given the tab, server never came by, ended up paying cash and leaving. Was told a server had got injured and taken for treatment probably skewed the whole setup.
Our last try turned into a fiasco, made reservations expected a short wait. But time came and went, many other groups were sat. Then noticed that groups would come in be greater by their "friend" then go to the head of the line. Told the hostess that we were leaving, she was upset but had no control.
The third time I hope goes better.
They didn't do anything wrong, I just was not overly impressed. I'll start by saying that it looks more like an American Pub on the inside than it does an Italian Restaurant. This was my first time dining here. The crowd was older. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The prices were average to above average, so that was not great when compared to the food. It did take a while to get served. My chicken parm was average, but my significant other got a $25 steak that wasn't great.
Very warm inside (low AC?), soggy overcooked pasta, and very average food. Expected more! Picked this for my son's going away to college dinner (party of 7) and we weren't impressed. Wish we went to the Trap next door. Better food by a long shot. Nice waitstaff.
Had some issues with the reservations, call back numbers and website. Very frustrating.
Once there, we all (17 of us) had really good meals. Everyone was very pleased. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. She did a great job for us. We will definitely go again.
Service is very good, the portions are plentiful, and the food is very good! It can be noisy, especially when seated next to larger parties (6+). Avoid sitting near larger round tables and long tables, as these people tend to sit back and shout across the table. They've forgotten how to be considerate of others. A drawback is that the entire dining room is open, and the bar is in the center of the room, which creates an amount of noise on its own. Look for seats along the edges of the room and in corners... much nicer and quieter. On weeknights, only one half of the dining room is opened (generally). This tends to make it even noisier. But, you can't beat the food and the service, and the prices are very fair!!
THE FOOD (VEAL FRANCAISE) WAS EXCELLENT. I AM VERY "PICKY" WHEN IT COMES TO PASTA SAUCE, AND YOURS WAS ABOUT THE BEST I'VE TASTED IN MANY YEARS, THE WAITER (MICHAEL) WAS VERY POLITE AND HELPFUL. I WOULD NOT HESITATE ONE MINUTE TO REFER YOUR RESTAURANT TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY
One member of our party was extremely upset with the waitress because he felt she did not show enough concern when the top of the red pepper shaker fell of and the red pepper emptied onto his food. I felt he was out of line with the extreme to which he wet. I am sure that TJ will hear about it when he returns.
Chianti's has been a favorite place of mine for many, many years. The food is always fantastic and plentiful. I love the outdoor seating in the summer.
They have a happy hour menu at the bar during the week that is awesome. The bar tenders David and Kylie are the best. Fantastic service every time !
Wonderful waitress, great service, and very quite with over 100 people . All of our party enjoyed the comfort of a relax atmosphere, without being rush in or out the door. The food was cooked to order, not this pre cooked food. Three course meal was Excellent in favor, amount on the plate, and arrangement of the meal on the plates. Easy to order flowers and delivery was on time. Flowers were perfect on the table
When we pulled in parking lot awning said "banquet" There was no sign for the front door. We drove around to a top parking lot to find that it was a different restaurant. Must admit it was a little confusing and we had a 97 year old guest so did not want to climb stairs. When we got to the right place, we were seated right away and had a great server - very friendly and knowledgeable. I split a filet with out guest and it was perfect size for both of us. Ordered med rare, but it came medium. Husband had veal dish that was perfect. Chocolate cake came with large serving of ice cream and was a nice treat to share.
I love Chiantis. However on Mother's Day I was unaware of the special menu. The dish I usually eat was not included. I understand why they chose to have a specific menu, but I would have gone elsewhere having known that beforehand. We paid a lot of money for lunch and it was good, just not what I am accustomed to from there.
Food was very good, but restaurant was overcrowded due to Mother's day reservations. We sat in the back in a gloomy private area and thus felt disconnected from the rest of the restaurant. The bar selections were limited even for basic juices and liquors, which was disappointing. The staff did their best to serve us but were overburdened with other large parties in that area. There were only two servers for that private room in the back that I saw, and there were at least 4-5 large tables being served. Food was good and came out as ordered.
May or may not go again, although good, nothing out of the ordinary. Many other restaurants in the area offer similar food, prices and ambiance.
We had a gift certificate and decided to try it out. Glad we did. True to other reviewer's comments, it was very loud. Small place with tables on top of one another. If you don't mind this (we didn't), the food and service were fantastic. Our waitress was a real pro and never left us waiting. We splurged for the fried mozzarella - best we've ever had. Served with their pink vodka sauce. I cook Italian and consider myself to be a bit of an Italian snob being from the Boston-Providence area, and this place measured. My wife had the chicken sorrentino special and I had the Alla Matriacia house special veal with onions, mushroom, mozzarella and crispy prosciutto. Both dishes were what we considered fantastic homemade Italian food. Gave them 3 stars for ambience, but as my wife commented, that's how it is in the North End of Boston as well.
