CHI CHI at the Avalon Hotel Palm Springs Ratings and Reviews
We wanted a nice place to celebrate American Thanksgiving and Avalon Hotel/Chi Chi was suggested so we made the trip from Indio.....we had the turkey dinner special...not your traditional meal, but it was tasty....the Brussel sprouts however were way undercooked and pretty much impossible to cut...and no potatoes... :( ...service was good at first and then dwindled off, its cozy but the tables were close and you could hear everybody's convos....I might try it again...overall it was a nice evening....
Amazing ambiance but extremely expensive. They also bring out bottle water and charge, for environmental reasons I do not really believe in bottled water if your tap water is good. They poured tap water in to our glasses as refills on top of the bottled water so the tap water is clearly good.
This is a special occasion type restaurant for sure. Food was good. Service was great.
Hotel looks gorgeous.
We have dined here on several occasions and have always had a great experience. The staff is very accommodating and go out of their way to insure your every need is satisfied. The menu is limited but you will find something for everyone on it. Food is very well prepared and the flavors are intense.
Harrison was great and we knew him from the previous Citron. The cauliflower appetizer was very good. After that it was downhill for the food. The chicken in my zucchini-pasta dish was dry and very chewy. Both roast chicken dishes were dry and tasteless. The charred octopus presentation was ordinary and the taste was"OK", first and last time at Chi Chi until changes are made. Sorry.
Love this place! I've only gone for dinner a couple times and it was fantastic both times. The Branzino was about the best I've ever had. They have a special 4 course dinner for the summer that is about the best deal I've come across this summer. I've been here many times for breakfast/lunch/brunch and it's always wonderful. Love sitting by the pool with my dog. Highly recommended!
My sister and I were the only diners at 9pm on a weekday. We both ordered the chicken ($36 each). It was served on the bone and my two pieces were leathery tough and inedible. I tried to eat it as I was really hungry and the flavor was good but it took over a minute of chewing to get any of it to go down. I had to spit out much of what I chewed. I ended up just leaving the chicken on my plate (one and a half pieces) and ate the mushrooms around it.
My sister said one of hers was tough and inedible but the other was better so she ate that.
The waiter was extremely friendly and apologized, offering to have more cooked or bring us something else. We declined since by then it was getting late. But when the bill came he had charged us the full amount: $72 for 1.25 pieces of mediocre chicken. We were going to book a couple of nights at the hotel but after that we decided not to.
We had the 4-course restaurant week menu and it was great! The flavors were balanced and delicious! Wasn't sure how it would be since it is a restaurant in a hotel but it was yummy and the service was on point! Bonus: we saw actor Peter Dinkledge (sp?) of Game of Thrones at the bar...fun night overall!
The restaurant week menu was excellent - chi chi embraced the week instead of serving small portions and things that don't represent their regular cuisine to encourage you to order from the menu. The food was excellent and dining poolside was was beautiful. We even saw a Hollywood star which made the visit even more special. We'll definitely be back!
What a wonderful surprise. We had apprehensions, at first, because this was a reincarnated restaurant from a previous one that wasn't that great. We were there for dinner for restaurant week and they offered a special 4 course dinner for $39.00. What a bargain. However, their regular menu is very expensive, but, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's also located in the Avalon Hotel which may speak to why their menu items are so expensive. Maybe they cater to the Los Angeles crowd? Service was good, however we felt a little rushed at the beginning because we just received our cocktails and the waiter was immediately asking for our order. But when we told her to give us time, she was more than accommodating. All-in-all a great dinner for restaurant week. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant.
We dined at several places in Palm Springs last weekend. All were wonderful, but this is the one I would DEFINITELY visit again ... in a second! I will recommend it to anyone I know planning to visit Palm Springs, too. The ambience was incredible for brunch, and so comfortable even outdoors at 11am. Our group of 5 each ordered something different. All of us raved about our dishes, but the Avocado Toast and the pancakes were clear winners.
We had been to Chi Chi before and had good memories, so we went back for a birthday dinner. It was wonderful start to finish. We started with drinks at the bar, and moved to a lovely table near the pool outside. The food was excellent, very fresh and flavorful, with plenty of choices. We had one steak dinner, and a salmon entree flavored with very interesting, but not overwhelming spices. There was an amazing cauliflower starter, and the caprese salad was exceptional. All of the staff was super nice and we were well taken care of. I will definitely go back and recommend to all.
So glad we visited Chi Chi on our Palm Springs break. The service was attentive but not intrusive and very chilled. We sat in the shade with a perfect view of the pool. For lunch I had the Ahi Poke with an iced tea. I'm still drooling over this dish. I don't ordinarily like fish but this was fresh and good quality, perfectly seasoned and marinated. My friend had the shrimp tacos with the cactus cocktail. With the lime and freshness, we thoughly recommend this pairing! The only fault with either dish was that there wasn't more (and the portions weren't small!)
To me, this is the best restaurant in Palm Springs. Tasty food that's not overly seasoned and not something you've seen 100 times. Healthy without being a sprout fest. Creative without being (shudder) trendy. In particular, try the Ahi Tuna main (seared outside, cold inside, like it should be) and the octopus appetizer (seasonings and veggies just right to set off the perfect char). Honestly, that's how those dishes should always be prepared, but how many times do we get shoe leather tuna and rubber octopi? Appreciate a good kitchen. Also, a good wine list and creative cocktails. The ambience isn't hipster chic, just casual chic. Chi Chi's isn't trying too hard, they are just doing things right.
