Chez Vincent & Hannibal's on the Square
Had their sampler plate, both the meat and the fish. Both had one or two things that were not very good. Ordered a Ceasar salad, but never got it.
Good food, terrible server
My husband and I just returned to our Bay Area (CA) home after our quarterly check in on my aging parents. We wanted to treat them to a special dinner out and selected Chez Vincent, as we have many fond memories of family dinners there over many years. I had hoped the restaurant was still as special now as it was the last time we dined there a couple of years ago. If anything, it was even better! We had a comfortable table and while there was a good crowd on Saturday evening, we could still carry on an engaging conversation without having to shout. Our waiter (very French!) was attentive, informative, and accommodating. He was particularly helpful in selecting a (French) wine that worked for each of our entrees (we live in California wine country and need help with these things). We’ll definitely return to Chez Vincent on a future visit!
Food was very good and well priced. I’ve had better duck breast but it was still pretty solid.
Food quality has gone way down over the years. The cheese plate looked like something I would put together at home for a snack for my toddler. The filet was just ok and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. Won’t be visiting again.
Very attentive service. They have French server which provides you with honest recommendation. Food is really well presented and flavorful. You have to try at least once.
Celebrated my wife's "special" birthday. She wanted the best and selected CV based on past experience. Throughout this area we are fortunate to have solid choices of good restaurants and very good restaurants, but for "special" there are only two. Ambiance was charming and the food fantastic; both enhanced I believe by the exceptional service. The knowledgeable and attentive server engaged easily in conversation, was confident in his recommendations and managed well the pace of the course delivery by keeping an eye on us, which does not happen that often at all establishments. The dining was everything and more. No surprises, no disappointments. It clearly reminded us of why we keep CV in our top tier while challenging us to reconsider our criteria to promote a few more occasions to "special". Great visit. I'm already looking forward to Arbor Day.
We go to Chez Vincent often The food is always of high quality. Service is always good, but our waiter that night was outstanding. Our go to place for a night out.
Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere and superb service
Amazing ambience & excellent food! The service & location is also very good!
Food taste was average for floridian french food, however presentation was subpar. For the price paid, this place is way off the mark, and we will not be coming back. That being said, it is light years ahead of Le Coq Au Vin, which is akin to the McDonald's of french food, and is light years behind many average french restaurants in Texas and California. That being said, although the quality of the plating of my sea bass was on the level of Furr's Cafeteria, the taste was excellent, and cooked excellently. My wife's grouper unfortunately lacked any quality presentation, and was quite overcooked and hardened.
We went for lunch. We started with the excellent mushroom soup. What a treat. My wife had the salmon. She raved about it. I had the chicken crepes. I love the sauce. We had a most enjoyable lunch.
Love this restaurant but disappointed that there wasn't a note that Valentine's Day would have a limited, more expensively That menu did not even have escargot the appetizer my wife was looking forward too. Would have changed our reservation to Saturday if I had known of the limited menu and the price
Tonight we were caught in the menu bait and switch. To be honest, there’s no such thing but it’s the only way I could describe our evening at Chez Vincent.
I booked a table well in advanced for Valentine’s Day and I was pleased to see they had many openings. My wife and I arrived on time and were immediately shown to our table by a greeter who turned out to also be our waiter. He recommended the sea bass as he handed us our menus. I quickly noticed that the menu we were given was for a price fixed 3 course meal. I handed my menu back to our waiter and said I wasn’t interested in the 3 course meal and asked for the regular menu. The waiter said the price fix menu was our only option this evening and embarrassingly acknowledged that Chez Vincent did not inform guests of this offering at the time of booking or prior to our arrival. This is not what I was expecting and needless to say my wife and I were quite disappointed. To make matters worse we felt very rushed through our meal as the courses came out on top of one another. It didn’t make sense because every table around us was empty and there was no line at the door, so it wasn’t like they needed our table. We likened it to being at banquet which only took away from the enjoyment of the meal.
Needless to say we will not be dining with Chez Vincent anymore. On the bright side though, we hope to have many laughs sharing this story with our friends, family and clients.
Valentine’s Day dinner. Set menu did not disappoint. Food was fast and delicious.
We were served prix fixe Valentines diinner. The food was excellent as usual. The restaurant did not recognize our Open Table reservation, but seated us anyway. The ambiance is very good. The server was skilled, but rushed us. Overall we had a good experience.
We were there for lunch on Valentine’s Day. I enjoyed the poached salmon with dill sauce. My husband enjoyed the trout.
Waiter offered us wine but then nothing else and so we had to ask about beverages like tea, fountain drinks, cocktails, etc.
bread service was given to neighboring tables but never arrived for us.
we ordered a cheese plate appetizer and it arrived looking like scraps on a random dish plate with some bagel thins and a bit of jam. I love cheese plates and so was very disappointed.
The entrees were cooked very well but drowning in sauce rather than accented by it.
It’s a small intimate restaurant and might have been very nice if there had been quality control.
The menu looks like a diner with an array of food from french toast to burgers to pate'
The food was mediocre at best .. i had the duck ... asked for light sauce and arrived swimming in tastless sauce. Others had the salmon, again asked for no sauce... arrived with sauce. Lamb chops (2 chops) was underwhelming.
The live music was a nice touch.
Best to describe this restaurant as Cruise Ship food.
We went out for our 40th anniversary tonight. If you want to celebrate something special do not go to Chez Vincent. The food was very good, but they don’t even try to make it special.
Excellent food and service! We ate in the formal restaurant and not the bar area. It was quite and romantic, and the food was phenomenal. We hope to make this a regular place for us to go.
Not a fan. Rice was so salty, I couldn't eat it. Would never go back.
/as always, the dinner at Chez Vincent was excellent. The quality and preparation of the food is always top notch, and this time was no exception. The only not-so-great entree was the rack of lamb. The taste was great, the size of the serving was very tiny, really tiny! Everything else was wonderful. The service was very good, European in nature (not hovering and rushing you out the door), and we very much appreciate that style. The wine list is very good with lots of by-the-glass choices. You really can't go wrong at Chez Vincent!
I was there for lunch on a Saturday. There were only 3 tables seated. We should of had exceptional service but we didn't. The waiter seemed indifferent and uninterested. I had to ask him to tell us the specials of the day. Of our party of five only two of us liked our meals. The swiss burger was huge, but undercooked and the beef in my crepes was tough although the sauce was delicious. I hate writing a poor review but Chez Vincent's is just not what it used to be;-(
Menu looks nice and items are typical French. Their food is solid, but seasoning is pretty much outdated. It tastes like food in Paris in 1950's or days gone by. I had pork, the sauce over it was extremely salty and did not taste the mustard flavor at all. Service was slow and service staff's knowledge of foods and drinks is very limited. It was empty and quiet and felt homie.
I had an amazing and authentic experience! The food, service and ambiance were immaculate. I would definitely recommend for a nice romantic night out or just to simply have an amazing meal/experience.
Food was delicious and the owner of restaurant Vincent greeted us and made us feel comfortable and welcome.
It was a delightful experience and evening.
I took my assistants there to lunch so they could try authentic French cuisine. We all had a great time and more importantly, loved the food. My party was very impressed with the authenticity, the presentation and most of all the wonderful French flavors. I had the escargot and they had crab cakes. The escargot was piping hot with just the perfect amount of garlic and butter. The crab was chockfull of crab. Some of us had the French Onion Soup. The soup was hot, full of flavor, and comforting with all the cheese and delicious caramelized onions. For our entrees we had Beef Bourguignon Crepes and Filet Mignon. Pure heaven. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch and dinner. I believe they also serve brunch.
Very disappointing ! We arrived early for our reservation in Chez Vincent, so decided to have a cocktail in the restaurant next door, Hannibal’s , this was pleasant and noticed that this had a door through to Chez Vincent . So this was actually one restaurant in two parts ( the decor was different but the menus virtually the same). The problems started when we headed into Chez Vincent , there was only one other table with guests which we always find disturbing. We browsed the menu and looked at the wine list , this looked great with a large amount of the various champagnes . Our waiter was French and explained to us where he was from, this was of interest as we spent a great deal of time in France before we relocated to the US . I ordered a rather nice bottle of champagne, but the waiter explained that the restaurant only had one bottle of Champagne from France, Dom Perigon priced at $270. He said that other than that we could only have American Champagne. Having spent so much time in Champagne in France, we know that Champagne can only be harvested in Champagne. How can a French waiter in a French restaurant not know that what Champagne is and where it is made? We decided to leave the restaurant before ordering water or food and went to our favourite restaurant, Luma on the Park, where we got a decent bottle of Champagne reasonably priced with superb service and delicious food.
Fantastic environment for a date, personal service, great value. The food was exceptional. Will certainly return.
Amazing food and service , the server was full of knowledge and recommended great wines and food
Very disappointed! We come to this restaurant every year for my birthday and anniversary and have always loved it!
We found the service was very poor... had to remind the server about our salads and even then when he got them he still forgot one! The goat cheese was much smaller than it used to be.
Used to enjoy the European waiters that used to work there.
Portions were much smaller than they used to be.
Escargot was a little bland... used to love dunking bread into the garlic butter!
Not sure we will go back
Chez Vincent is always outstanding for a special occasion. Not inexpensive but definitely worth it.
Really enjoyed this restaurant. We dined with friends on New Year’ Eve. Everything was delicious and our set was attentive. The prices seemed reasonable and presentation was awesome!
Very nice experience for a first visit. Loved the food, although there should be more gluten-free options or ways to make current menu items gluten-free. (Would be nice to see a flourless chocolate cake on the dessert menu.) We wanted to order the special chocolate mousse dessert but they were already out at 7:30pm???? Only thing that bothered me was that we had a reservation, it was not full and they insisted we sit cramped along the wall banquette between other 2 tops or set a table next to the bar. I was told we could not sit at a 4 top although there were several open. So they set a table for us by the bar. However, when 2 guys showed up shortly afterwards, with no reservations, they immediately sat them at the open 4 top!!! That is not cool! Server, Eddy, was nice.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Service is lacking and needs attention but the food overshadows it! We will be back!
Seems to be a throwback to the 70’s or 80’s in terms of menu and decor. That said, there is something kind of nostalgic and nice about the place. Went here for Christmas dinner and had a really good meal. Food was cooked well and was very tasty. Portions were good. Service was attentive and helpful. As to going back, I am not sure I would - too many other spots that offer a little more in terms of ambiance and food choices.
We so enjoyed our dining experience at Chez Vincent. The cocktails were excellent, and the meals we had were exceptionally prepared and so delicious. The service was on point at each coarse. We all noted how complex yet subtle the flavors are with each dish. As an example, the blue cheese sauce on the lamb dish had just a hint of the cheese taste and was buttery in the way a good béarnaise can be. The portions are a perfect size so that one can enjoy dessert without feeling too full. In particular, I very much enjoyed the atmosphere and the unusual decor. It made me feel as if we were in France somewhere just off of the beaten path. We are already planning Chez Vincent as the place where we will celebrate as a family again very soon.
We’ve dined at Chez Vincent many times over the years. We always enjoy it. I usually get the trout Amanda and my spouse gets the salmon. This visit was for Christmas Eve, just the two of us. We had a 7:30 reservation. We arrived a few minutes late and found the place packed. It took us several minutes to get to the welcome desk. Looked as though they’d overbooked or took lots of walk ins. But after a few minutes we were led to the quiet table we had requested on the Hannibal’s side. We had a perfect corner area where we could be private and yet surrounded by tables of reveling families. We ordered fois gras for an appetizer. My entree was rack of lamb and my husband’s was a perfectly done steak. The portions were just right, not overwhelming. A glass of wine for me and a beer for hubby and fantastic warmed bread left us refusing dessert. The server was great and even took off the cost of our drinks as they’d taken a long while to come. We didn’t mind as we were making an evening of it. A kiss on both cheeks Vincent G! Merci beaucoup.
