Chez Vincent & Hannibal's on the Square Ratings and Reviews
I have always loved going to Hannibals/Chez Vincent's, but I am more drawn toward the Hannibals side, especially when there is live music. I was lucky enough to come on a vintage night. Zoot suits and flapper dresses and a man singing (crooning?) like he's Frank Sinatra. Fantastic ambiance, delicious food and wine, our waitress was exceptionally pleasant but not pushy. She gave us the right amount of time to extend our visit and enjoy the music as long as we could.
I was very disappointed, having heard good things about this local favorite from friends. I thought I would try it out during the extended days of Magical Dining Month. The food was very below par for even moderately priced restaurants, much less for a high-end dining spot. French bread was dry and crumbly, ahi appetizer sauce was too pungent, many of the veal slices were so hard that an ordinary dinner knife could not cut them, the vegetables were limp and wilted, the chocolate cake was stale and sodden. The service was polite but a bit random (several different waiters served various items) and not very attentive. I am not a hard-to-please diner: the Magical Menu food quality was superb at other high end restaurants that participated.
While the food at Chez Vincent's is good, it's not the best French in Orlando. We dined on the Magical Dining Menu and for $35 it is a good value for the 3 course meal and lots of options.
The thing that really brought down my rating was two things. First - we were sat as a group of 8 on a split bench and seats that is directly next to an air conditioning vent. A FILTHY a/c vent. When I asked the general manager about the vent and when it was last cleaned, because those of us who arrived early and noticed is thought "that hasn't been cleaned for a long time" due to the amount of dust build up, the manager said "it gets cleaned" but never would admit to when it was LAST cleaned. Not good. He then followed it up with "I can't clean it now because the dust will go everywhere", which was my concern about being sat NEXT TO the vent with all the dust on it that some would be flying over toward our food. So, dirty a/c vent first major issue. It makes me wonder how clean the kitchen really is....just sayin'
Second issue - the way it was handled. After the comments from the general manager he simply walked away. Didn't even apologize for it being dirty. Didn't offer anything as a "hey let me help make it better for you" in return. Even on the magical dining plan, with 8 adults dining and bottles of wine purchased our meal was well over $400. It's not like we were cheap diners. Even at the end of the night not a second comment was made from him. When I paid the bill at the end of the night I mentioned the dirty a/c vent to our server and he said he would look into it and he was sorry. Well, at least he said sorry I guess.
We have dined here before, and actually friends of ours, not with our party, walked in and so I know others who dine here as well. It's pretty good, but unless they clean up their act I won't be back.
We all had the magical dining menu for a friend's birthday dinner on a Monday night. Light crowd . We had to ask twice for bread and when it came, it was stale. Disappointment for French restaurant. The escargot was rich with garlic notes but over cooked and slightly tough. Ahi tuna was perfectly cooked with a divine honey sweet sauce. The grouper was outstanding but should have been noted how spicy it was. Chocolate cake slice was consistency and flavor of Mom's good chocolate cake.
Excellent wine selection and superb manhattan martini.
Bistro, over-sauced proteins, but then the buy the bottle book is generous choices and prices. DarlingWife always the DD.
the farther inside from the windows, the dimmer the table. byo brightlight, however reader glasses offered by wait staff ( always bring my own).
The food was exquisite, I completely agree with the Orlando Sentinel' s review of this being the best French food in Orlando. However, in my opinion, service accounts for at least half of the overall experience, and that is where they bombed. We were not even offered a wine list, or asked if we wanted anything else besides water to drink until after the appetizers were taken away. The server seemed uncomfortable in a fine dining restaurant, and would have been better serving at a sports bar. Our dinner plates were still sitting empty in front of us when the desserts came, causing an awkward experience while they staff held dirty plates in one hand and melting ice cream desserts in another. It also didn't help that one of my friends and myself were consistently bumped by servers as they walked by us. Not sure we will choose Chez Vincent next time; we may give it several months to make some improvements.
While Chez Vincent is authentic French food, it was so old feeling and hot and messy. There was one server for the whole restaurant, and I had to ask several times for things. Water was dropped on the floor and never cleaned up. It was hot sand muggy. The food was good, hot and tasty, but no recommendations given.
There were 5 of us enjoying the Magical Dining experience at Chez Vincent's on a Sunday evening. Chris was very attentive & also patient with us & offered some good recommendations. The service was excellent, keeping our water glasses & bread basket filled, & making sure we had everything we needed during our meal. We all enjoyed the delicious appetizers especially the escargots & warm goat cheese salad. The entrees were all delicious & we enjoyed the grouper, the pork tenderloin & the coq au vin. My husband who normally focuses on the main course protein, was raving about how deliciously sweet the carrots tasted. We tried 3 different desserts, & my favorite was the creme brûlée. Chef Vincent kindly came over to introduce himself & offered us an after dinner port! We will definitely all be returning & bringing others to this wonderful Winter Park gem!
Went for Magical dining experience. Fixed prix menu with wine pairings was very nice. Vegetables and desserts were outstanding, entree good, service was excellent. Bartender was outstanding. Chef came around to check on tabled. Heard great things from other tables about the frog legs!
The Magical Dining portions are so small, you leave hungry. I was pointed to our table vs being seated. My Grey Goose martini was not Grey Goose. Food was covered with so much sauce could not even taste the tuna. I could go on and on but will NOT go back.
It is disappointing, we enjoyed Magical Dining in the past, but now you are treated like second class citizens if not ordering off the regular menu.
Our reservation was for 8:00 p.m., and we called ahead that we may be running late due to traffic. We arrived about 10 after, and were informed that our table was still occupied but the couple were in the process of cashing out. Unfortunately, it took them about 20 minutes to leave the table, and we were left standing in the dining area for the time being. However, the wait staff were extremely helpful and gracious, and when a spot opened up at the bar, our waitress sat us there and the bartender helped us choose our first bottle of wine. The service continued to be great and our server was so attentive, and it made the rest of the night so enjoyable!
We are fairly regular patrons of Chez Vincent and always have a good meal there, excellent wine choices, pleasant ambiance in a comfortable French dining room and friendly and professional wait staff. The owner Vincent is congenial and circulates among the diners when he can be spared from preparing the delicious meals. Chez Vincent is our go-to restaurant when treating local friends and out of town visitors.
My wife and I enjoyed escargots as our appetizer and creme brûlée for dessert. For our main course, I had the grouper in Grand Marnier sauce and she enjoyed her salmon in a raspberry and sherry reduction. Our server was attentive and helped us with our dining decisions. The wine list was extensive.
Entrees were great server was good! The creme brulee was ok. We had a reservation for two but they put us next to the piano performer... the performer is great lovely man but we could not talk at all! It was my wife's birthday and we could not talk much!. The neighbors on the next table were complaining too. I would suggest that the performer sings a couple of songs and takes a break leaving more time for people to have a conversation. I think i would like to come back but if I get the same table I will ask for a table change
Not thrilled. I may have high too high of expectations for this restaurant. Although not that crowded and with plenty of staff, the service was lacking. Most of the servers were talking and concerned about who was going to be doing whatever. Very little attention given to the customers.
The food was average. Nothing that outstanding. It was good, but certainly not outstanding or anything to make me want to go back anytime soon.
May have been an off day for them.
Excited to finally try this restaurant after hearing about it over the years. Went there for the magical dining menu and was not disappointed but underwhelmed with the food. Nice cozy layout and great ambiance. Service was good and thoughtful. Unsure if the underwhelming food was due to the magical dining but the food came out rather quickly as if it was already prepped and waiting. The French onion soup had good flavor but was served in a glass bowl. The soup also looked a mess and didn't show the prototypical cheesy crust you would expect. I was super excited to try the coq au vin as it's one of my favorite dishes. The chicken was good but lacking some seasoning and the wine reduction sauce not as flavorful as it should of been. The dessert I had was underwhelming but my dates creme brûlée was very good. Not bad overall but I would rather go to another French restaurant if given the choice.
The service and food here is wonderful…Beef Filet cooked to our request with a light sauce, tender vegetables served creatively and a large fluffy mound of mashed potatoes. The appetizer of escargot in puff pastry was delightfully delicate. The Creme Brulée excellent as well as the chocolate crepe. Server took an extra moment to select a cabernet and chardonnay glass of wine based on our description of what we usually like…perfect. Always dependably French!
