This was our second visit to Chez TJ. Last time, we went for our anniversary and it was cozy, delicious, inviting, and comforting. NB They had lost their Michelin Star at this point.

Now, they have regained their Michelin Star but this time, it was stiffer, more formal, and frankly, less fun. The somm last time was so friendly and the entire staff was incredibly welcoming . The food was more 'trendy' and still pretty good.

We just wish it felt as warm and welcoming as it did last time.

I think the effort to provide creative / unusual / one-of-a-kind dishes is overdone. To have plates of multiple unique bites each with an exotic foundation, rare morsel, and complicated topping, one after the other, is too complex for a single meal. I kept wondering who the chef was competing with.

Food was very disappointing. Except for the caviar dish all else was rough / undistinctive. In addition, all fried items were heavy and greasy. I don’t think this. 1 Michelin star restaurant. If I had been alone I would have walked out.

The wine suggested by the sommelier was excellent.

This was the most wonderful dining experience my partner and I have ever had. An exhilarating gastronomic journey, each presentation complete with a narrated backstory. We opted for the (non-grand) wine pairing, and without being a huge drinker myself I really had to pace myself! It was like a marathon. 3.5 hours is about correct, we arrived at 9:30 and it was the perfect time for peace and quiet. Next time, we’ll dine here in the day - so our pictures aren’t so dark! What a lovely experience.

There were so many delicious dishes. You are there for a few hours so you shouldn't go for a quick meal. But it is definitely worth the time commitment and it certainly did not feel like we were there so long since there were always new dishes coming out of the kitchen and friendly staff to answer any questions we had.

We been here many times. We like the spring and summer menu more because it’s lighter. The winter menu food is a bit more heavier, but overall very creative.

So amazing! An assortment of amazing small bites that filled us up. Very professional friendly and knowledgeable staff always will to answer our questions. Loved the whole experience and will definitely go back again!

A different yet wonderful dining experience. I love that you don't know what you are going to get as a dish. The surprises were worth it. Everything had amazing flavor and the plating was superb. The service was great as well. Even though you are there for about 3 hours, it did not feel like it because of the food and service, and of course my date.

The food is very good - but it isn 't world class. Considering the exorbitant price ($250 per person with a flight of wine) this is terrible value as you can easily get food as good for a quarter the price elsewhere.

My biggest complaint was the insufferable condescention of the pompous waiter who could hardly stop name dropping long enough to let us eat the food. This place goes out of its way to make you feel like you are privileged to be eating there, and they merely deign to serve you. This is an extremely pretentious place to eat and it doesn't appear to be ashamed of it; pity it isn't actually a good enough place to justify the attitude.

This was our first visit to Chez TJ after multiple meals at Chez Panisse, the French Laundry, and Manresa over the years. And as a confirmed foody for whom Alice Waters personally cooked my wedding meal for my first marriage back in 1977, the standard tasing menu at Chez TJ was in the same league as all three restaurants mentioned above. Every course worked, and the standard wine pairing was exceptionally matched to each course. The care and nuance in each course was unparalleled, and despite the price of the meal my wife and I felt we got our money’s worth. A truly memorable experience.

The food was absolutely delicious and we'll definitely come back! When we visited, there was a very loud group (of 4 people only!). We asked for a quiet place and were immediately moved to another table that was much more cozy. I'd 100% recommend this place. The service was very good, very attentive. This is a great place for a special occasion dinner.

Went there for business occasion. The 35 yr old restaurant, operated in a humble Victorian home built in 1894, is famous for its French cuisine, and lately seems to be inspired by Japanese zen. Omakase style (Chef’s Choice), keeping the surprise all the way towards the end. Every bite is like heaven. A lot of dishes are seafood related or light dish, goes better with wine pairing. My favorite dishes include Abalone, Osetra Carviar w/ Sea Urchin, Lamb Chop, Duck, Black Cod w/ Oyster, Pineapple w/ white chocolate, and Black truffle (add-on item). It was pretty neat that we were able to check out the kitchen and staffs. Quite pricy if ordered with wine pairing and a few add-on items (i.e. champagne, black truffle), however, a great experience if under special occasion.

Great tasting menu that varies continuously. Huge focus on local ingredients (they even have their own garden for vegetables) with a French and Japanese influence in cooking style. I have been there twice in one month and both times got very different and original menus. As for the wine pairing, very good set of wines mixed between California and France. Amazing quality for the price of the menu.

Out of this world experience. Food is an art to the chef and his team. Attention to every detail throughout your entire dining experience. Impeccable wine pairings went perfectly with each course. The wait staff is engaging and friendly, yet very professional and attentive.

Chez TJ is our favorite restaurant on the peninsula for a special occasion. Better than Baume and deserving of a second Michelin star. Chef seems to have gotten even more inventive recently. The food and wine pairings are outstanding. The service wonderful. Expensive but worth every for the food and wine lovers looking for a special experience.

Party of 6 (3 couples), and though they called in advance to speak about occasions, dietary restrictions, etc. when we got to the restaurant they would not allow us to do both the tasting menu's and insisted that the entire table did the same menu ....very inflexible ! I have been to several restaurants and as a couple we have always tried different menu's and half the fun is in tasting each others. Given that their corkage is steep ($55 per bottle) which we don't mind paying for a special bottle/s from our cellar, they were really rigid when we requested about opening a 3rd bottle of wine and could not deviate from their 2 bottle corkage max. Note that we had already ordered 3 expensive bottles from their wine list. To our surprise they add a 20% service on your entire bill even on the wine. We always appreciate our servers and were happy for them. With great friends, it was the closeness of friendship, fun, and laughter that made it a memorable evening. The food was good but for the $$ it just didn't wow me.

The restaurant is in an old house, and a bit stuffy. Food was OK, but not worth $300+/person. Service was very attentive and friendly, but not as enjoyable as I would have liked. There was nothing really wrong about the overall experience, but also nothing really incredibly delicious, compelling, extraordinary, which you'd like for that price range.

Even if it were $50/person, I'm not sure I'd come back soon. However, I do understand why it cost so much to do such intricate dishes with exotic ingredients and complex preparations and personal service. I just didn't find it as enjoyable as I'd like for the price.
