This restaurant is fantastic. The service is outstanding. The food is incredible. We have had a different menu each visit and each time the options have been great. I'd recommend the restaurant for a date night, celebrating an event, or just to try it out because you want amazing combination of food, drinks, and service.
Delightful 6 course prix-fixe meal at Chez TJ. Everything (food, service, fun factor) just keeps getting better and better.
Highlights for me were the first few courses - the bite-sized caviar with cucumbers and cracker was just perfect, as were the one-bite oyster & crudo course.
Later courses were all well-cooked/well-executed, everything perfectly seasoned. No big surprises but that's a good thing.
Service was meticulous throughout.
This is a great venue to celebrate special occasions. Definitely not kids-friendly.
Just really good start to finish.. It was a delight.
Great place , awesome food, wonderful service . We enjoyed it so much
Amazing experience. Great ambiance. Delicious, creative, fresh, beautifully prepared dishes. Great, off-mainstream wines. Professional, friendly service. Great views of the garden
Highly overpriced. Decent quality food. Good wine program. Good service.
Superbly executed tasting menu, very creative.
Some of the dishes were wildly successful and others were creative but not quite the tasty mouth explosion you would expect. Looks-wise, every single dish was delightfully plated and presented.
The wagu beef was offered and we glad we took it. Simply mouthwatering and delicious
Very fresh, creative and delicious food from a set menu. We have eaten at all 3 Michelin restaurants and many 2 and 1 star restaurants in the Bay Area. This place is much more than a 1 Michelin star restaurant!
The food was full of artistry and craft, beautifully presented, and tasty. I never expect to enjoy every single dish equally, but I appreciated them all. I had the vegetarian options, my husband the regular menu, and I could hear them carefully ensuring that all diners' preferences were accommodated (let them know when you book). The tiny courses combined to provide a sensible amount of food spread over the 3 hours. The cheese course was optional but included (they were clear when something would cost extra), and they offered us extra bread after it was first served, so you don't need to go hungry; equally I didn't feel that I'd overindulged. I can't do justice to a wine pairing but enjoyed taking tiny sips of his - they all seemed good choices. Overall, Chez TJ very much lived up to what I'd expect of this kind of fine dining. In the region we've tried Atelier Crenn (hands down favorite), Manresa (good but felt the price was a bit high), Coi (beautiful but the flavors didn't work well for me). Personally I'd rank Chez TJ in second place on that list.
It's great to have such a tasty, high end restaurant on the Peninsula! We love going here for special occasions and appreciate not having to drive very far. Every course we had was yummy!
This Michelin-starred eleven course prix fixe for two cost over a thousand dollars once we added the a glass of sparkling rose to start, the optional nightly wine tasting, a cheese course, wagyu beef for one of us, and a gratuity, but we'll never forget it. Every course was amazing, and served with just the right amount of information; and the sommelier was delightful, knowledgeable, and clearly excited about every pour of the delicious and interesting wines. We learned, enjoyed, and will never forget. We also got a little drunk, as the wine tasting was generous, especially relative to the amount of food. The only thing that was not amazing was the dessert course, which was OK, but less interesting and subtle than everything else. Chez TJ is a once in a lifetime experience for all but the very wealthiest, but, if you love an appreciated food and wine, it's worth treating yourself and someone you love.
Gorgeous inspired food. Absolutely delicious, beautiful and ethereal. Lovely evening. Perfect service.
There are better experiences available in the bay area at this category. Difficult seating, too much foot traffic and all the staff congregating near our table. Too much time between courses, even for a restaurant in this category. The food was very nice but all the other unattractive elements made it hard to enjoy fully.
Had an awesome and memorable experience. Owner was very friendly and we sincerely appreciate his hospitality.
This was one of the most extravagant and decadent meals I've ever eaten. The service was amazing, the wines delicious, and the food was simply amazing and sublime. It's a pricey dinner but worth every penny.
I would advise that it is a bit pricey...our bill for 4 with only two having wine pairings was almost $1500 including tax and tip; more than I'm willing to spend for most special occasions. Although the service was good, it was not the beautiful dance you receive at French Laundry. So, although we enjoyed it, I'm chalking it up to a one-time experience.
Service is 5 stars , food is wow factor! Place is nice and clean. Got a lot of parking at the back not in front of the Restraunt but it’s all good. Best food I ate so far
I went with my fiance to Chez TJ for our anniversary. The food was incredible and the staff was friendly and helpful. I appreciate the personalized touches like the 'Happy Anniversary' card they gave us as well as catering the food to our preferences. This was my first time and won't be my last.
Fantastic professional service, with a personal touch. The food is exactly what you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. Unforgettable.
Everything was delightful. They made us feel welcome and it was an enjoyable evening. Peaceful and though dining rooms were filled it was quiet enough to carry on a decent conversation without having to raise ones voice. So much appreciated in this day and age of concrete floors and warehouse ceilings for all noise to bounce around.
Food was tasty. Bites of some items we had never had before. One piece of lobster didn't seem cooked and was very rubbery, but it was only one bite of a dish with another piece of lobster muscle AND one dish of 9-11 depending upon how you count it out.
It was pretty nice!
The young sommelier did a very good job introducing each wine pairing.
Out of 7 dishes 2 were not so tasty, the fish and dumpling dish was too salty, and the complementary cheese dish was not so tasty.
The desert was average. The petit fours were fine.
I ordered an espresso which was more of a black coffee than a fine espresso.
Honestly, I don't know why we don't go here more often. Every time we do, it's simply amazing and this visit was no exception. The food was just ridiculously good, and the service was amazing. We like to joke around with the servers and at first they tend to be formal, but as we interacted with them, they became more familiar and casual which is a HUGE plus for us. We can't recommend this place highly enough to foodies seeking what will be one of the best meals you ever enjoy.
Have been to Chez TJ many times. This latest trip did not disappoint. Excellent variety of ingredients, elegantly presented. Always a terrific experience though I think the pacing of the courses could be accelerated a wee bit.
Really not worth the price. I researched the menu online and was a bit surprised by the $195 preset no choice menu. ..so they should be more upfront/ clear about that. Also, no full bar. So don't expect an aperitif or digestive.
Great first fine dining experience! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. All of the wines we had as part of the nightly wine pairing were great. The staff was extremely attentive and even noticed when my water cup was taken away for a minute. Our sommelier was great with answering all of my questions related to wine from explaining the differences in fermentation to the history of some of the vineyards from where our wines were from.
Wonderful experience, as always. Food and service were sublime. Only drawback is we can only eat there every couple of years because of the high cost.
This is one of the best meal by far! If you are into wine, I would recommend doing the wine pairing with it. It’s a must try experience, at least one. Every item on menu was sooo good! Expensive but worth the $$$.
Delicious and inventive tasting menu, excellent wine pairings and fantastic service. A bit pricey, so definitely won't be rushing back except for special occasions.
The pre-fixe meal was incredible from start to finish. Knowledgeable staff, quality ingredients and attention to every detail made dining here a memorable experience. Chez T J is unpretentious and lets the quality of the ingredients and love of the chef’s desire to prepare great food shine through.
Excellent flavor combinations, balance of textures, portion size, and the presentations were so appealing - clearly very thoughtful of the food. And the wine pairings were all so unique and complimentary of the course. And what a nice treat and surprise to end on a smorgasbord of tiny sweets for dessert. Loved my meal and the great service. Will definitely be referring and going back..
Chez TJ has, I fear, lost it's way. I dine there every year or two. When I visited two years ago I had an excellent meal for a good price, around $100. per person plus wine and a serving of some excellent caviar. When I returned two weeks ago I found that the set price was $200 per guest and diners were only given the menu after the meal was over. The chef wished to surprise us! I would much rather be able to know what I was eating beforehand. In addition there were too many courses, somewhere around 6 or seven "main" dishes which left me overwhelmed and stuffed. Not good value for the money. In contrast, I visited Chez Panaisse in Berkeley a week later and had a much more satisfying meal for half the price. The east bay classic still has it's chops and served us an unpretentious 3 course meal with excellent serving staff and a classy atmosphere and great wine list.
I hope they get over their case of the gastronomic vapors before I return.
Exquisite cuisine, great ambiance, attentive but unobtrusive service, and a tasting menu with well chosen wine pairings - can't beat this little neighborhood gem in Mountain View for a perfect dinner to celebrate a special occasion. Pricey, but worth every penny...
Overall, the experience was good and we enjoyed a nice meal with some very interesting new tastes. The pace of service was OK but maybe slightly too fast for such a setting and michelin starred place. The fact that it is in a victorian house is very nice but also a double edged sword: we were in a small room with three other tables and one of them was rather noisy so that hurt the ambiance slightly.
Food was good but too much deserts to feel completeness. I would still recommend but we may not go again until they change menu.
Very restricted menu. Good overall experience。
