Chez Oskar Ratings and Reviews
At brunch here before heading to the airport. I had my luggage and sat there eating and drinking mimosas for a few hours with my luggage. The staff was incredible; check on you without being in your face. Offered great food recommendations and their favorite plates. I would definitely come back to eat there next time I am in NYC.
Discovered this place a few blocks from my apt on Decatur. The décor is really nice and I'm happy they pay homage to Black folks who changed history. Especially considering the neighborhood/community they inhabit. They offer a good happy hour with some really tasty (although somewhat "weak") cocktails. I had 2 margaritas and felt very sober after. But they were really delicious, if that means anything. They also have this cool All-You-Can-Eat Mussels deal every Tuesday, which I'm excited to try. My main gush is about the ambiance- it's a really intimate set up with some nice tables in the back that give a good view of the neighborhood. I was in the main space by the bar, so not sure what the annex room looks/feels like. The hostess (who may have also been the owner/manager) was very warm and welcoming and our server was really nice about our order changes. I would def return but maybe pick some diff items from the menu.
The server came to take our food away when we greeted someone and we hadn't finished. That was not cool. And he gave a tight lipped apology when we informed him that we weren't done. Servers are to ask if the person is done and not clear out the settings, especially when the dining utensils were not at the finished position.
It's definitely a cute place, you can bring someone special here and you won't be disappointed. The service was great! I came here early in the day and the ambiance was great so I can only imagine that at night it's even greater. The food was pretty good but could be better. I won't complain too much though because the prices were also reasonable. I would come back here.
Went for All you can eat Mussels Tuesday. Nice atmosphere. Easy to talk with date or friends. Roasted Garlic head with the bread was nice touch and deeeelicious. The mussels were ok,,,not the best I ever had though. They seemed to lack the flavor I wanted in the different flavored broths. When I added some of the roasted garlic and lil salt, they were better. Overall it was a nice eve, but the mussels left a little bit to be desired.
My friends and I enjoyed the food, drinks and the service. Some of us have been here and felt it was a good place for friends to get together for diner. Everyone enjoyed their meal in this relaxed stress free setting. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and anyone who wanted to hang out with their friends.
This was our family's first time at Chez Oskar and we were delighted with the food and overall ambience. Our son was in from graduate school and we wanted to take him to a fun place close to home and this was perfect! Everyone was friendly and welcoming and we were easily able to relocate to a good, more private table in a less noisy part of the restaurant so we could hear each other. It was a Friday night, and we still had a good time. We will go again soon!
Loved Chez Oskar before the move and still do after our first visit to the new location. It has the same vibrancy and coziness and the food is great. Had the octupus and the steak, both very tasty. Cocktails a bit too sweet for my taste but overall very happy to have Chez Oskar in the neighborhood.
Chez Oskar was wonderful. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our brunch date very much on Sunday morning. The entire staff was so attentive and sweet. We ordered a few items to try and they were all delicious -- the spicy lamb burger, moules frites, crepe with broccoli rabe and raclette, and the croque champignon, which was the open-faced sandwich with mushroom with an over easy egg (a lovely vegetarian option to the traditional croque monsieur/madame). I found the entire meal to be very delicious and well worth the money. Needless to say, I'd love to go back. They have all you can eat mussels on Tuesdays and I'm excited. Hopefully, I can try that one day since I live all the way in Boston. Till next time!
Born/Raised in the neighborhood.
I remember what store(s) sat in this spot since I was a kid.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a quaint and cute little "French " bistro in the heart of Brooklyn. I grew up in this area, but now it has been enhanced by small cafés and coffeehouses, unique restaurants and small businesses. Chez Oskar is a delicious addition to the many new businesses that have opened up in this area. I found that the goat cheese and onion appetizer was quite large and delicious, easily shared by two persons. I ordered a glass of wine, Cote Du Rhone, which was quite nice. For dinner I had the lamb burger with sweet potato fries and I enjoyed every bite. My eating partner had the ribeye steak with truffle fries, and the steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare. The portions are really exceptional and worth the price, which was reasonable. The young lady who was our server was very pleasant and accommodating. I would gladly go back to this restaurant, especially since I was too full to have dessert! The only tip that I have for them is to put the croque madame/monsieur on the dinner menu, as they have in the small restaurants in Paris. I was looking for that.
Very poor service food was bland . Served us a bowl of mussels that were half empty. Waitress forgot my second helping and we sat there 30 minutes before she asked if we were doing ok. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Fort Green but it lost its luster when they moved. I'm assuming it's not owned by the same people anymore
