What Insiders Are Saying
Chez Oscar is a neighborhood French bistro with friendly vibes and some decent French classics.
I'd been there before and had a delicious steak and so recommended it to my friend. However, after being ordered medium it came out quite well done. A disappointment.
It was my birthday and they treated us to a delicious chocolate treat. It was quite rich and shared by 3.
Very attentive wait staff.
Excellent moules and lamb meurgez sausage. Sweet, attentive service.
This is my second time at Chez Oskar. I was visiting from Montreal, and it is one of my favorites spots in Brooklyn, not only for the food but the atmosphere, the people and their amazing service. Will def be going again and recommending it.
Had a great dinner. Food, wine, and Service was phenomenal !
Chez Oskar is one of our favs! The food is always good with a great atmosphere and the chocolate cake is to die for! Sometimes, however, the drinks are a miss - they're a hit probably about 85% of the time. But even with that, it remains our favorite place in Brooklyn!
My wife and I have been patrons of Chez Oskar since they were located in Ft. Greene. The food, staff, and ambiance has always been on point and never disappoints. Help them help you and make sure you have a reservation - especially during the weekends.
They didn't make it clear that it was going to be a fixed menu until the last minute and even then it wasn't made clear that there was going to be a significant upcharge.
Favorite date night spot for my partner and I. Its got such a chill vibe, sort of dreamy and romantic and urban.
Good food and very artsy feel. My family loved it. The lamb burger was so yummy.
The hostess found us a great table and the food was awesome
Great food in a pleasant atmosphere!
Lively, funky atmosphere. Spicy lamb burger and coq au vin were excellent. Service is prompt and very courteous. And prices were very, very reasonable. Great neighborhood spot.
We went to Chez Oskar on a Thursday night (our first time there) and had the Fondue as our starter. We then ordered the Cauliflower Steak and the Duo of Beef. The preparation and presentation were excellent as was the service. We hope to return on a future trip to Brooklyn.
The cocktails and wine were great, the food was solidly good (everything was tasty but a bit overpriced - the fondue was a bit bland and the steak dishes a bit basic), but the service was fantastic! There was an issue with one of the dishes (and 3 of our party had ordered it) and both the response and the fix were prompt, friendly and generous. Overall a really pleasant and relaxed experience!
I've been to Chez Oskar maybe 5 times now since it opened in Bed Stuy. My wife and I come here for major events--birthdays, anniversaries, NYE--and even just to stop in for an appetizer and sangria during the summer. We've always had a wonderful experience. The food is great and the service is spectacular. This last visit was for NYE with my parents who were in town from California. We were not disappointed and it truly was a meal and experience to remember. Thank you to the entire staff who clearly care about their customers and work so hard to ensure everything is great!
The staff and food are incredible. We enjoyed every moment. Best mussels
Great happy hour n unlimited mussels night
AWEOME! Love the decor! Staff was knowledgeable & attentive. Bartender was fabulous!
While I like the ambience of the restaurant I could not say the same for the food. I went for dinner with 2 friends and we were all disappointed. We ordered the 2 sangrias and a cranberry Sprite they were all horrible but our waitress exchanged it for a pornstar martini which was great. For appetizers we order the grilled baby octopus was awful the lobster crepes in still waiting to taste the lobster and the baby back ribs which was so dry and tasteless. After that disappointment was didn't bother ordering the entrees. We just got the check and left.
Truly excellent experience at this restaurant. Everything was cooked to perfection. Wine list and bar both very well stocked with just the right amount of quality options across a range of price points. Service was very attentive and friendly (and in at least one case authentically native-speaking French!). Staff was welcoming and hospitable, and the gentleman that was assisting me for the latter half of my meal made wonderful suggestions. Decor is quaint and cozy, and belies the underlying quality of the service and food: the unassuming appearance underpromises and the incredible quality and value of the food and drinks along with the great service overdeliver.
Absolutely check this place out! Just don’t take my table!
What a find! I was looking for a restaurant that was near certain train lines and Chez Oskar was on the list. So glad we went! The food was 100% amazing, from the grilled octopus, the cheese plate and well marinated olives to start. Entrees that we enjoyed were the pork chop special (best grilled chop EVER), the beef 2 ways, the salad coreenne with salmon and the cauliflower steak. Fine and affordable wine list. Flourless chocolate cake was AMAZING. The services was inconsistent - we had to look for and call our server over several times after being left waiting for too much time. The place just wasn't busy enough to warrant that, plus she was on her phone texting (it seemed) mot of the time we were waiting. Needless to say, we will be back for the food and will hope that the service will match the food quality.
Love everybody there!
Polish girl was awesome too!!
Good food, not too loud, attentive service while eating. Only complaint was it took too long for waiter to pick up my credit card when ready to pay. Not very unusual.
Kitchen closed in 20 minutes upon arriving at 4:10pm but they still waited for us to take our orders. Really nice staff, perfect setting and mood, great place to go any day. Would recommend going after 5:30pm and getting the Grilled Squid. It's a must try!
Showed up 5 minutes early to the reservation. They didn’t have a table ready for another 30 minutes (at the earliest). What’s the point of making a reservation if you have to wait another half hour?
This is my beloved local spot. Cant go wrong. Always a good time with my neighbors. The food is great and the vibe is right. Also love the decor.
Great place for our date night. Mussels, octopus, duck, bottle of wine, and a cheese plate to top it all off. All spectacular.
First time here and this place did not disappoint. The brunch menu was diverse, the customers were of diverse nationalities and the atmosphere was comfortable. I tried the avocado toast. It was made differently (more like a flatbread) I loved it. Paired with 2 fried eggs and a tasty green salad. Topped it off with a Bellini and call it the day. Will return for dinner in the near future.
LOVE this place! Second time I've eaten here and this time I brought overseas friends. It was a little warm but the server turned on a small fan and things got better. We were there for brunch and my friends ordered a wine they enjoyed so much they went looking for it to purchase and take home. Lamb burgers and fries were delicious, as was the beet salad. Attentive unhurried service. Will be back for sure!
We celebrated my mom’s birthday on Monday around 8 - Chez Oskar has live music during this time and its amazing. Really adds to the ambiance. Our hostess and server went above and beyond to make it a special evening. I asked if we could sit by the window and put a candle in our mama’s dessert. They kindly accommodated our requests. The whole restaurant joined in singing happy birthday! More importantly, our mom was surprised and really happy. Thanks so so much!
It was cool. Too bad my date wasn’t.
Excellent food. We shared two starters- grilled octopus and duck confit tacos. Big portions and very tasty. Then had puddings. My flourless chocolate cake was light and deliciously smooth. My friend had the creme brûlée- she said it was in her top 3 creme brulees ever😃
Music was good but unnecessarily loud. Food was good! Server didn't check back after we got our meal and then she forgot to bring what I had asked for. I had to ask a different server to bring me what I had asked her for. The pinot noir by the glass was not a good one. Love the ambiance, and the friendly people. We'll be back.
Very good food. The restaurant becomes comfortable quickly and the staff are professional. All dishes are well prepared and ingredients are fresh. Food Presentation is attractive.
Dinner was great as usual. We had a great time and we will be back.
I didn't know Chez had moved from its original Fort Greene location, but it's still a wonderful place and I had a great dining experience. I love the ambiance!
Celebrated my daughter's graduation with a party of 8.very friendly and attentive staff. Great food and service..
Great spot with quirky decorations for a cozy vibe. Sizeable (and delicious) portions. Reasonably priced drinks!
We come here a lot since it's close to home. When visitors come with us I always tell them "foods great but service is veryyy slow". We had a table of 4 last week, burgers and mussels. That's it. Food came 45 minutes after ordering. 1 hour after we sat down. 5 tables in the main dining room. Not busy. But this is typical there. It's almost like they are on island time. In the Caribbean you get great food but service is just so slow. Staff is friendly. We come often but thought I'd share..
The food and service were excellent. Our cocktails were well crafted. The octopus and the mushroom appetizers were superb! I would not order the steak again, just not that exceptional. But I would definitely go back and try the mussels this time!
