   An upmarket experience which last from the beautiful entrance area all the way through to the attentive staff and the exciting menu which is only outdone by the arrival of the wonderfully presented and glorious tasting food. Not the cheapest but well worth the money.

   Two of us arrived for the set lunch menu on a Saturday, this place is renowned for it's a la carte menu so did not know what to expect at this hour? Had the caeser salad for starters, excellent, other half ate chicken tikka with wasabi mash, also excellent (she said). For mains I ordered the Malaysian chicken curry, which was on par if not better than some dedicated Malaysian/Thai restaurants. Other main was sea bream which was apparently delectable . Overall excellent price to quality ratio: £40 for lunch with alcohol and a tip.

   First ten minutes of entering were not great, being welcomed by a seemingly unenthusiastic waiter and the restaurant was empty. Admittedly though 7pm on Friday is slightly before the atmosphere builds and when we left at 9 the restaurant was fairly full. But with the restaurant empty and idle thumbs, being asked 3 times in five minutes if we’re ready to order seemed excessive Good: My food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Big selection of interesting dishes Waiters very attentive (but overly so at beginning) Warm goodbye Bad: Unenthusiastic welcome My partners soft shell crab was very soggy and spinach/goats cheese main course wasn’t so great. Mint cocktail with bourbon just tasted of bourbon. No real flavour. Value for money - £75 for two people, two course, two cocktails didn’t seem great value. With the positive hype online for chez mumtaz I wasn’t blown away. Nice restaurant but there’s better ones in St Albans.

   It was for my boyfriends birthday. Both never been to Chez Mumtaj before and we loved it. The food was incredible and the service was very good. Great value for money! Would definitely recommend!

    We have been here several times now over the last 10 years, and although this was our first visit in a couple of years, as usual the food was very tasty and very well presented. As a family of South Asian heritage, it is hard to find Indian food of a taste and quality that makes it worth coming to a restaurant and paying good money for. Even the parents, who are not usually impressed by Indian restaurants, said the food was delicious, value for money and worth the journey. Compliments to the chef and the long-serving staff. This is a great local restaurant which could justifiably charge much higher prices in London. We hope the quality remains as high for future visits and would definitely recommend anyone reading this to eat at Chez Mumtaj.
