This was our first night out post pandemic. We were so pleased. Really enjoyed the dinner. Service by Amber was terrific! We felt very safe and encourage others to come back to chez max. As wonderful as ever!

All food was good and overall just the right amount. Service workers were excellent. The foie gras is absolutely delicious. The foie gras portion could be a little bigger.

We had a great time! The atmosphere was romantic and quite, the service was excellent, and the food was good overall. I didn’t like the sauce on my order but my husband’s order was really good. Next time I’ll choose something else :)

It was great being back to our favorite restaurant. As always, everything was perfect! They haven’t missed a beat in this ever changing crazy time. Looking forward to sitting at that gorgeous bar in the future! Thanks Brian, Skip And Rollin for holding it all together for us!

Great food, great restaurant and atmosphere.

We have had dinner here the last two weekends. All dinners have been excellent, (four different selections) and perfect serving size. Waiters and staff are very friendly and helpful. After dinner drinks in the bar each time and great conversations with the Brian. Great place for romantic dinner.

Our first time there, Chez Max doesn’t disappoint. Our server, Brian, was terrific. If you go, be sure to have the escargot en croute for an appetizer.

My two sisters and I had an early dinner in the bar at Chez Max. Once again, Houston gave us exceptional service. The Cosmopolitans and wines were on special for Happy Hour and we were all pleased with the food - fried oyster appetizer, steak salad, salmon salad, burger, onion rings, and chocolate lava cake which we split for dessert. Owner, Brian came by several times to be sure all is well. Another great evening at Chez Max!

My husband and I went to Chez Max for a late dinner and requested seating in the bar to be able to order a light meal. We were pleased with the well-priced wine list and ordered a bottle of the Drumheller Columbia Valley Merlot for $25. It complemented our steak salads (high quality meat cooked medium rare as requested) and chocolate soufflé's for dessert. Owner Brian (who waited on us) and bartender Houston were attentive and friendly, making sure we had an exceptional evening which we did! Very highly recommended!

Food was just average. Prepared well but just not at a level that was expected. Overpriced.

We made reservations for what under normal circumstances should’ve been a great evening. What we weren’t advised of was that they were hosting a monthly woman’s wine club event. It was very, very noisy. We had great difficulty trying to have quiet dinner conversation at our table. Most of the time we just sat quietly “enjoying” the cafeteria level buzz of activity that filled the restaurant. We paid for a 5 star dinner but had a 2-3 star experience... except for the food. The food was outstanding, I just wish we had have had it boxed to go and eaten it at home. They really should advise people when reservations are made that they have events like this going on. I will definitely not return because of that.

Lovely dinner. Such a treat. Fabulous service. Great food- we had the ceal and rockfish. Nice wine selection. Charming atmosphere...great winter place but need an outdoor space for when the weather is nice.

The best food and fine dining in Richmond, especially the Dover Sole.

Second time at Chez Max and both have been outstanding experiences. This is a great place for that special occasion. Highly recommend.

As always, we had a wonderful dinner! My husband's Dover sole was cooked to perfection as was my duck a l'orange. We love Chez Max for a fun dinner with friends (as was the case on Valentine's) as well as for a romantic date night. Couldn't have had a nicer evening!

Chez Max is a local prize that is worth visiting. Their food and associated service is top notch. The ambiance is cozy and personal, a place where you feel comfortable knowing that everything will be perfect. You will not be disappointed!

We had a delightful intimate quiet dinner at Chez Max. Oliver was an outstanding and attentive server. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Not only a wonderful place for a Valentines dinner, but for a frequent date night. We will be back.

Excellent, as always. We are always treated like old friends. Some new things on the menu to go along with the old favorites. We'll be back soon.

I would have given 5 stars for food except the filet mignon came out medium where medium rare was ordered.

My husband and I had dinner at Chez Max last Thursday night. We enjoy the Richmond restaurant scene and had heard about the restaurant before, so we were really looking forward to the night out in the West End. Unfortunately, our experience was not stellar. The positives include the hostess, who was friendly, and the cocktails, which were well-made. I had a cosmo and my husband had their version of a manhattan; both were very good. However, although our waiter was capable, he was non-conversational and clipped, giving us the impression that he'd rather not be at work that night. But the food was our real complaint. Scallops for an appetizer were just okay, as were our salads. For entrees, I had the chicken breast, which was undercooked and covered with a tomato-based sauce that was bitter and drowning everything else. I had 3 bites and didn't finish the rest. Since my husband loves fish and often orders a special, he had the sole, which is a house specialty. However, he found it to be dry and tasteless; definitely not worth the price. Perhaps it was just our particular night there, but we would not recommend dinner at Chez Max.

The Owner always checks on everyone to make certain they are have a good time.

We have been to Chez Max many times over the years and will continue to return.
It is the most outstanding restaurant in the Richmond area and is very popular.
We also highly recommend celebrating special occasions there

This was my favorite restaurant for very special occasions. However, our experience this time was not like we have found in the past. Our waiter was very much in a hurry and literally snatched our plates from us. He served our salads before our soup and when he realized this, removed the salads and returned with our soup. The whole evening we felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant. Our special birthdays became not so special because of the service. There were other issues but for our next special occasion we probably would think hard about returning to Chez Max.

Celebrated a family birthday. The evening was delightful. Food was good and the service was wonderful. Definitely return again.
