Chez Loma Ratings and Reviews
Not a good experience at all. The server was very inexperienced, she wasn't able to talk about the food with any knowledge at all. I ordered escargot , which the menu stated came with sweetbreads. Whelm the dish came I noticed that there wasn't any sweetbreads in the dish. The server had no idea what sweetbreads are and looked confused when I stated that there where none in the dish. I asked her to speak with the chef, which she did and reported that "the chef said we are out of sweetbreads". No apology or offer of substitution or compensation. My beef bourguignon was tasteless and appetizer sized. The room very cold, music to loud.
Don't go to this restaurant it is very disappointing and not worth the money. We spent $100 for 2 entrees and 1 appetizer and 1 glass of wine, totally not worth it !
Dining at Chez Loma is a treat. If you’re an onion soup fan, it’s a must order. Their mussels are also scrumptious and little bread rolls addicting. Poached salmon was delicately flavored and served on a unique blend of tasty vegetables. Dessert poached pears are also excellent unless you’re getting the gingerbread Carmel sauce cake, yum. We enjoyed their courteous and friendly wait staff .
My server was inexperienced and did not ask if I wanted a second glass of wine. The bus boy did not fill my water. We were celebrating our anniversary. I don't eat meat and asked that bacon be left off the dish. She brought my meal with bacon. The food was good once it was right but we were completely ignored. The waitress knew she messed up but made not attempt to make us feel better. I was very disappointed.
Dinner for four, asked for a quiet table, had to ask twice for music to be turned down. Food was OK but not great. Ran out of fois gras which two of our table had ordered, when the waitress who seemed overwhelmed returned she only brought one menu to re-select from. I had the filet for a main, undercooked and cold when I got it. Two had the seabass which they liked. Gingerbread was dry and looked like a large brick. Mehhh.
Food was good, but quite pricey. Server was attentive. A little disappointed that I indicated on the reservation it was a milestone birthday celebration, and there was no acknowledgement by the hostesses or wait staff. A restaurant at this price point should do better than that.
I love Chez Loma. An icon in Coronado, it has maintained its authentic French cuisine quality, it has friendly wait-staff and servers, its atmosphere is superior with the right balance of quiet energy. Very European without being stuffy. We stumbled onto Wine Wednesday and their Happy Hour keeps the prices manageable, but we keep this as our special occasion dinner destination.
The food was excellent and service was wonderful. The restaurant is in a historical house. It may be noisy or quiet depending upon where you are seated. My wife’s salmon was cooked to perfection. You couldn’t tell from looking at the menu, but they do accommodate vegetarians/vegans. They chef will prepare a locally grown organic roasted vegetable dish. It is wonderful. I don’t know why they don’t add it to the menu.
Was seated for a reservation. Waited over 10 minutes and nobody came to even greet or say that someone would be with us. Promptly left 11 minutes after being seated. It was also interesting to note that a lot of supposed regulars (mostly older Caucasians) were seated in back but the ones seated in the section near door (mostly Asians and black). Another table near us complained about how they never filled their water or came back to check up on them. Sad experience because I heard such good things and had listed this place many months in advance and didn't even get a chance to order food.
We discovered this wonderful little restaurant on a trip to San Diego 3 years ago; it hasn't lost a thing with time. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was authentic French cooking and excellent, and the price was relatively modest. I recommend it highly.
We decided to try Chez Loma for French Food. I had the 3- beet salad and, Coq au Vin which were truly authentic and delicious! The small restaurant is charming and we both thoroughly the entire evening! The soft French background music made for a perfect evening! This place is a winner!
Arrived at 6:40 for a 6:45 reservation but was not seated until 7:20! I saw several other tables being seated that came in after me while we waited in the bar. One couple told me that their reservation was after ours but they were seated 30 minutes before us. The manager/waiter said she was sorry in the most un-empathetic way. Also odd, the bartender told me that she couldn't transfer my drinks to the dinner bill and I needed to give her cash. If you want to try French wines, like burgundy, you need to get a bottle as most of the wines by the glass are not French. The worst thing about this place is their attitude.
The food was excellent! The wine list offerings were pleasing as well. Overall, the entire dining experience was very positive and the service was professional, attentive and friendly. Chez Loma is a gem and I will definitely visit again, when I'm in Coronado. Actually, Chez Loma is a great rationale for making a subsequent visit to Coronado.
Chez Loma is a marvelous date restaurant. It’s in a cozy home just off the main drag on Coronado Island. What’s not to love? Chez Loma is a casual, quiet, romantic little gem with great food. And it’s always a treat when Sabrina is there — trust her recommendations!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Chez Loma and couldn't have chosen a better spot in our home town. This was our first, but won't be our last, dinner there. The second story table seating could be a bit too cozy with seats in a line against the couch seating on one side, so the person next to you could be very close...this night (Saturday) no one was seated at the two areas close to us, so it was great. There were other circular tables with couples dining that created a nice atmosphere but also some privacy. We will request a table next time.
The food was delicious and very well priced for the quality. My duck l'orange was the best I've had, and it is my go-to special occasion dish; tender slices cooked to perfection in delicious sauce; potatoes au gratin were very tasty and the green beans were sauteed with garlic and very fresh. My husband ordered the short ribs and said they were very good, served in a casserole-type plate with veggies and a rich sauce. We had 2 glasses of wine each (happy hour still in effect, so it was a nice $3 per glass discount; we inquired beforehand about corkage - $20, so we passed on that).
Our waitress was excellent, attentive, friendly and efficient (red hair, don't remember her name). She was assisted by an equally efficient, pleasant young woman. The bread was warm and wonderful and the food came at a good pace, not rushed, but not too long either. All in all, a fantastic experience and perfect celebration (complete with creme brulee, yum)!
A wonderful restaurant for a date. The service was excellent and the food was, too. The server was very accommodating. When we first arrived the heat was on high and it was so warm, but she immediately took care of adjusting it when we mentioned the temp to her. Our appetizers were good - beet salad was nice and fresh, crab cakes were good. Our meals were excellent. The beef bourgeon was yummy and my husband finished all his meal, too. The setting is like a house and it was nice to be seated in a room with not too many other people. There were about 6 tables in our room (and looked like a bit fewer in the next room) so it feels cozy, but not too close to your neighbor. Recommended for a special evening.
Classic French at it's Best!! Awesome. So good, we went back the next night!! The service was amazing (Sabrina). It could not have been any better! We started with the escargot, outstanding, and moved to Bouillabaisse and Boeuf Bourguignon as main courses - then finished with the Gingerbread. If you make it to Coronado - you must go here!! You absolutely feel like you're in a Swiss/French chalet and enjoying the food and atmosphere!
Not unexpected to find a crowded restaurant on Christmas Eve. They were catering for 150 instead of a normal 50 covers. We had a good server but we were surprised by an expensive three course Prix Fixe menu and no a la carte. Surprise grew when our server suggested that we choose from the three dishes offered for each course right up front.
The wine was nice, as was the lobster bisque. The rolls doughy and undercooked. Both entrees were small for example the scallops (4) looked ok but each had been sliced in thirds so only 1.3 in total.
Time for deserts to be told there were none of two of the three choices (including those two we had pre selected) left. There were no alternatives offered. We had just one of the remaining dishes and wish we hadn't. A cold gingerbread pudding that was dry and tasteless. It finished an awful meal very appropriately. Finally they tried to charge in full for the course they couldn't supply.
The worst meal I've been subject to for years. You'd think they could multiply 50 by 3 and cook enough to cover a basic menu
