Best French restaurant in Chicago! I would recommend the Escargot app and Duck entree. Will definitely be back.
Chez Joel is always excellent. I had the house salad for the first time, which was great. Everything else was excellent also. The service was a bit slow, but it likely was not her fault. I sent her away for a while while I enjoyed my wine, and it took a while for her to get back. She was very pleasant though.
Service was very good. We arrived early and Sam at the desk was so helpful and made us very comfortable. We sat at the bar for drinks and appetizer when shortly after our table was ready. Food was very good.
Over the years, we've never been disappointed at Chez Joel.
Chez Joel presents French bistro fare in a creative manner with beautiful looking and delicious tasting ingredients. Friendly, efficient staff.
The best French restaurant in Chicago. Truly, Chez Joel is a taste of Paris on the prairie.
Everything was so delicious ! We will be going back soon
Happy we could get a table for two at 7:30 on short notice. The waiter was friendly but there was a definite problem in the kitchen. Long wait for the shared first salad course. And even longer wait for the entree. The lamb shank special was dry. My wife's sea bass was perfect. Dessert, warm almond cake, which I ordered without ice-cream because I am lactose intolerant, also came long after the expresso was served (not very good espresso). Why serve the coffee right away so that it is either cold when the cake comes or I have finished it?
Love this place ! Took my wife for her birthday , they gave us best table in the house , very romantic , gave free desert and champagne. Wonderful night .
Was hoping for more. Menu looked great, but the food fell a little short of expectations... dessert was burned on bottom and parts of top, pastry was chewy and not flakey. Very nice people.
We’ve been celebrating special occasions at Chez Joel for many many years and once again it was memorable. Food, service and ambiance are outstanding. The owner sent us two glasses of champagne to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Needless to say we will definitely return for a delicious dinner in the near future!
Food was delicious, well presented, and lovely. Tried mussels for the first time as recommended by other diners. Very delicious! Sauces we're great. Can't wait to come back to Chicago to try other dishes. We had the rack of lamb and red trout. Beautiful and delicious. Be sure to get the creme brulee.
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, attentive service, very authentic French food. Would recommend and would return to try the other menu items that looked great.
Second time here and was great again! We had a wonderful evening! Thank You!
My favorite place to go for great food and service!
Great ambiance, great food and service. Thank you Joel and Maggie. Southside forever
This place was an amazing experience. The food was outstanding, better and more authentic than any other French food I’ve had in the U.S.. The service was delightful and the ambiance is charming. Highly recommend for any occasion!
The food was overall pretty good, with the exception of the escargots, which were VERY salty.
Steak and salmon were both delicious. Wines were excellent. Service as always was friendly, professional, and not obtrusive. Brought two other couple along. Both are planning to return, as are we.
Took my 11-year old daughter here for Valentines Day. I was a little concerned it wouldn't be kid-friendly, but the servers were so incredibly attentive to us and especially to her! We both loved the pre fix menu. While they were very timely with each course and in checking on our table, we never felt rushed. It was a wonderful experience, and I will definitely be back!
Absolutely fantastic. I love this place.
Absolute favorite restaurant! I have been coming since I was a child to special family events and now celebrate wedding anniversaries with my husband here. The food is sinfully good, I have never had anything that wasn’t amazing. The service and owner are fantastic. The decor and thoughtfulness of every aspect of the restaurant is great. A must go!
Pleasant service, great food for the cost, drinks were to die for, cute restaurant, and ultimately an incredible date night. Will return for many more memories.
Excellent French bistrot-style food, attentive service, lovely ambience!
I love the relaxed feel of the restaurant. The service was well-timed and friendly. The menu for restaurant week was a great variety for those wanting a meat or meatless option. I would love to return to explore more of the menu. The mushroom soup with truffle oil was amazing. The salad was refreshing. The Mussels and sauce they were prepared in were amazing. The steak was very tender. I loved that the cremé brûlée had the right touch of sweetness.
Went here before a hokey game with my son and loved it! It is a gem of a neighborhood restaurant with great French bistro food. Service is great too!
It was my first time here and I was pleasantly surprised with how full we left after enjoying the restaurant week menu options. I recommend the escargot, the sauce it comes in is delicious. The salmon was also excellent. Our server, I think Agnes is her name, was very nice and attentive.
The only downside was another server, who looked like Wario, was very rude to a busser that accidentally dropped silverware. The server yelled at him on the floor and seemed to be agitated with everyone he worked with. It was very unprofessional, I hate to see people treat their co-workers like that.
There was also a really cold draft coming from somewhere, possibly a back door of the restaurant.
Overall my date and I would come here again to enjoy the good food and romantic atmosphere.
First time at Chez Joel with my partner, we were due for a nice date night and decided to give this restaurant a try during Restaurant week. No regrets what so ever, every one was very friendly and helpful. Plus the food was amazing in our opinion. We had the Cornish hen and NY steak strip, as our main course and everything was cooked as asked and came out in a timely fashion. We definitely will be going again.
Fabulous as always! We have been going here for years and it is wonderful every time!
We think of chez Joel always for a special occasion because the food is delicious, the ambience festive and the service very attentive. We’ve never been disappointed.
Even though this is not our immediate neighborhood, we never feel the drive is burdensome. The valet service is efficient and reliable.
The escargot was good, but not amazing. My husband’s salmon was out of this world - done to perfection. The steak I ordered was tasty too. Desert was simply divine and I would definitely recommend trying the creme brûlée. I was a little disappointed with the French 75 cocktail I ordered but that’s because I like my cocktails on the sweet side. Overall, this place is a neighborhood gem and a definite repeat!
This place is very amazing and cozy! Excellent service paired with excellent food! We will be back soon ! je t'aime❤️
The food and service at Chez Joel was very good. I was disappointed that I could not use my Dining Reward Card because they did not know how to process it. I hope Open Table will instruct all of their participating restaurants on how to process the Reward Cards. This experience will not stop me from returning to this restaurant.
Restaurant was packed so the noise level was high but we were seated immediately, the food was great and our server Amber was very attentive.
We had a great meal but our waiter was very busy with other tables so we had to keep waiving him down. It was good but not as good as it’s been in the past.
The food is amazing, the ambiance is great and the service is awesome. You will not be disappointed.
Always the best French restaurant in Chicago. Hidden gem!
Beautiful, quaint, French bistro with great tasting food. First time there and cannot wait to go back. Food was wonderful and the portions were just right. Went for restaurant week and enjoyed what they had to offer on the menu. Will surely return and order off the regular menu next time. It looked great!!!! It is, however, very small inside. Tables are very close together. I find that to be like restaurants in Paris. The small places were always the best. This is one of the best in Chicago as far as French food and atmosphere.
We dine here often and enjoy our experience every time, both inside and outside.
9 of us came for lunch during restaurant week. The menu is fabulous, the food is delicious and the service is impeccable. Chez Joel never fails.
