About Permanently Closed - Chez Jacqueline
This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - Since its opening 30 years ago, Chez Jacqueline has managed to capture the real and true flavors of the Côte d'Azur. Located on MacDougal Street in the West Village, the charming neighborhood bistro offers simple (direct) sustaining food for which Nice is famed. Whether it's the traditional 'soupe de poissons' served with garlic croutons and rouille or the Daube Nicoise, tender braised beef in a pungent, red wine sauce, Chez Jacqueline's cuisine is as close as one can come to Nice in New York.

Chez Jacqueline - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is an old favourite that caters to Greenwich Village locals. The food is standard French bistro, always tasty, reliably good; the ambiance traditional French country style; the service friendly. Their pre-theater menu is especially good value.
there were 3 of us and we all order the same dishes and they were delicious and the portions were just right, the goat cheese croquettes were way too small and only 4 on a plate, they should of gave us 6 so each of us could have 2 each. Keep up the great food and hope u last another 40 years.
CJ advertises that it has been in existence for 30 years--and it feels like it. The best part of our experience there was the waiter. He was excellent, but nothing else was. The glass of wine was fine, the martini not (avoid). At 8:00 on a Friday night there was one other two, the rest of the restaurant was empty and stayed mostly that was until we left. A very strange feeling....The bread was fine, the pasta okay, the mussels not. And the bill without dessert but with tip was over $100. We won't be back.
LOVE this place. My husband came in after running several blocks in a downpour. We were DRENCHED! They offered us napkins to dry off and then the waitress brought a table cloth for me to wrap up in as I was cold. The service was friendly and on it. The food was fantastic and we particularly enjoyed the Onion Soup. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning when I return to NYC next year.
Recently had dinner on a weekday night with some with colleagues. Decided to go to Chez Jacqueline since it's near the office. The weather was beautiful this night and the window of the restaurant were all open and the lights fairly dim. It was a lovely ambiance. We shared appetizers which were all good - grilled shrimp, haricots verts with chicken livers and olive tapenade. Meal was spaced out just perfectly. Entrees came out of the kitchen still steaming and were all outstanding. I've had too many meals at pricey NYC restaurants where the entrees are served barely warm. Ugh! I had the black linguini with seafood which was fantastic. Portion sizes are more than generous. Bread is delicious and served warm - no charge for bread which I know some restaurants are now doing. Geez. Will definitely visit again and highly recommend.
I took my family to Chez Jacqueline for a pre-theater dinner. I have been here before several times. I have always had at least a good meal here, but this time everything was perfect! The food was delicious and our waiter was very friendly and helpful. All around it was simply a terrific meal.
Had a really pleasant dinner here - quite a small place; soups and entrees (I had a black pasta, my wife had the cassoulet) were all very nice, tasty, etc. Nice service, nice ambiance, quiet but nice music. Also a very nice price (and a moderately priced wine list by NY standards). We will add this place to our list.
You should be aware that Chez Jacqueline will cancel your reservation after you've paid your check. Yes, they cancel it with Open Table so they don't have to pay any thing. This is the third time this has happened, and each time I call back it was a "mistake" THREE TIMES!?!?
The food has gotten worse, and the attitude as well. Very snooty for such a casual Village place. We will never go back again and would definitely NOT recommend it!!
I've eaten here a couple of times, when attending events at the Greene Space (in the neighborhood.) It's friendly, warm, cozy; and the food is reliably good. Only disappointment on my most recent visit was the cheese board -- inadequately described by the server, and not sufficiently varied -- just 3 cheeses (including a mess of stilton which had fallen apart, and a tiny wedge of brie...) I know this place can do better than that. Cheeses notwithstanding, I will come back to this enclave of warmth, civilization and (mostly) good food.
