Chez Francois - Vermilion Ratings and Reviews
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. My husband is about to get surgery for cancer and we wanted to close out 2017 in a romantic fashion knowing it will be a while before we can do that again. The food is actually a 5, but the appetizer, which was a shrimp cocktail dish in a cheese fondue, burned my mouth when it was served. I did not say anything when it happened because I still had it in my mouth when I was asked about it and was doing everything to avoid burning other parts of my mouth my speaking. I just nodded. Regardless, I would go back AGAIN and AGAIN! Thank you for making our New Years Eve special. I LOVE the chef, wait staff, etc. Note to self...cheese holds heat...think back to being a child and eating a hot piece of pizza...ouch!
This was a special occasion get-together with visiting dear friends who had been to Chez Francois before and couldn't wait for us to experience it, too. On one of the coldest nights of the year, we enjoyed the warmest, unhurried evening in this beautiful gem of a restaurant steeped in history. The food, the service and overall ambiance could not be better. At the end of the evening , Matt the owner stopped by our table and pulled up a chair and answered all of our questions we had been wondering about the history of the place. That was a very nice way to finish out the evening! If you want a truly memorable dining experience, you won't be disappointed with Chez Francois on the water in Vermilion!
Dinner for 6 at the best restaurant in the state. Expensive, not an everyday thing, but worth the $$$ when you want a special meal. The wine list is amazing - massive and fairly priced. Our whole evening was seamless. Atmosphere, service, food and wine all impeccable. Entrees for everyone, shared appetizers and desserts, and 4 bottles of wine (no clunckers) for ~$700. Have that same meal in New York or SF and you would pay 2-3 times the price. We're lucky to have a place like this in the Cleveland area.
Our evening was meant to be a special night for our 85 year old mother, however, it didn't turn out so well. When we arrived there was snow packed along the curb so she had to climb over the snow and ended up falling. Luckily I had one of her arms secured with mine but it was slippery and down she went. Needless to say she was very wet and shook up. The rails leading down to the restaurant were snow covered and my sister had to clean them off with her own gloves because my mother needed something to hang on to. That should never be especially with the prices that are charged at your restaurant. All that should have been taken care of. We have dined at your restaurant over a dozen times and one of my daughters had her wedding reception there. The food is very good but the price has skyrocketed and unfortunately because of that and the fall of my fragile mother we won't be returning.
We have been coming here since the new owners took over about 20 years ago. If anything they have gotten better.
Quality, service and quantity are all better. They would be 6 star today.
Hats off to the two gentlemen who own the business and pay personal attention to its operation.
Our first visit to Chez Francois will have us returning in the future. We entertained friends there to celebrate some special milestones in their lives. The ambiance of this restaurant reminded us of some country restaurants we visited in France. The view overlooking the river was spectacular, and was supplemented by a clear December evening with the festive Christmas lights from both the restaurant and the neighboring residences reflecting off the water. The restaurant staff was fantastic from our arrival to the finishing touches at the end of our dining experience making this a very special occasion. The wine and dinner offerings were substantial and varied, and the veal and lamb dishes we ordered were prepared and presented creatively.
The food, service, and atmosphere was outstanding. This is the third time for me and have always experienced one of the best meals and time spent. I drove an hour, but would drive longer if necessary. I also would like to comment that the decor for the holiday is beautiful.
The birthday card that the staff signed was so special for our daughter. She loved it as well as the wonderful dessert wishing her a Happy Birthday. Thank you again for a great time.
My wife and I love this place, one of the few places my wife eats her meal the way it is served. Meaning she doesn't add anything like salt to it. You will never find a wait staff that explains your entire meal to you the way they do. I've heard it so many times, but I let them go because they all seem so passionate about it.
The Madre D is one of the owners and enjoys getting to know his customers, we have eaten here when well knows are also there and he treats everyone like your the most important person there.
If you are the kind of person who believes you get what you pay for, then Chez Francois is a must, you won't be disappointed.
Everything was as it was billed. The most exceptional part of the experience was the service. The food was very good and you do not go away hungry. The price adds up quickly however and dinner, appetizers, desserts and 2 glasses of wine will take you north of $200. The evening was grand in every respect.
We found the evening a complete pleasure. Good food, Nathan and Josh were better than good, as was the bartender (we were early - but he took care of us and arranged our reservation earlier. /we plan on coming back in March for a Birthday and we just might make it a regular place to visit on our anniversary. The Grey Eagle and Pocahontas
Compared to what it should be capable of, our first experience with Chez Francois was a severe disappointment. From the smoke that drifted over from the small crowd huddle outside the entrance to Touche, to the mandatory descent of an awkward set of stairs, to the lack of acknowledgment of our arrival for several minutes, and finally to being asked the same "are you celebrating anything tonight?" question several times (the answer to which was provided at the time of reservation), the first impression was a complete fail. Table service was a bright spot, and there are no complaints with it. The food, unfortunately, was overall mediocre. The salad was good, and nicely presented. The veal "medallions" were breaded (!) much to our surprise. Had they had any taste it would have helped, but alas they were bland. The trio of the sea were each slightly overcooked, thus chewy and added nothing to the meal. The sauce was good, and while I generally prefer to taste the food and not a sauce, in this case more of it would have been appreciated. The dessert, a chocolate mouse tort, was good. The atmosphere was busy but not chaotic, and while loud it surprisingly did not interfere with table conversation. But it was not romantic, and from what I could see there was only one secluded table in the main room.
Even at our favorite restaurant, The Refectory in Columbus, Ohio, we have on a couple of occasions tried something that was not to our expectations but the greeting, service, and atmosphere has never disappointed. Perhaps we just chose poorly on this meal at Chez Francois, but to find something so mediocre on a menu in this type of restaurant is...baffling.
