"If your a serious foodie" or "if romance is calling, sail on up" - literally - to this "French gem" on the Vermilion River, where the "sumptuous" menu and "professional but friendly" staff earn it the top rating from Food and Service in the Cleveland area; "well worth the drive" west of downtown , this "ethereal experience" (the perfect place to propose!") also includes a phenomenal wine list", "charming old world dining room" and "relaxing" riverfront cafe. Proper attire required. Touché a martini/wine bar was opened in 2007 and offers a "small plates" menu and a great selection of adult beverages.

We had a 8:30 reservation and arrived early and had a drink in the bar up stairs. We were not seated in the Resturant until 9:45 or so. Our waiter came over and we explained we had drinks and wanted to get right into dinner. We received water and did not get our waiter back until 9:25 when he asked for our dinner order.

As for our meal I had the fix menu with pairing and my wife had an appetizer, salad and main course. My meal was excellent. However my wife’s appetizer was smoked trout and was extremely salty and sent it back. The rest of the meal was OK. We started eating near 10pm when we had a reservation at 8:30. This is not acceptable at a Resturant at this high level.

We have been coming to this Resturant for over 15 years.

This is the third time we've been to Chez Francois over the last 10 years. They have not lost a step. From the French Country ambiance to the the excellent service, we would recommend a dinner here if you are celebrating a special occasion or want to treat visitors to an excellent meal. This time we have to chef select a prix fixe menu for me and my date. The individual dishes were outstanding and the overall selection fit perfectly with the beautiful summer night. We ended up sitting outside which was lovely. We were seated next to a boat access so there was extra traffic near our table, but it wasn't the end of the world. Again, we would recommend Chez Francois to anyone looking for an excellent experience.

From beginning to end this was the best meal I've ever had. Everything from drinks to deserts was perfect. Well worth the trip from Cleveland. Don't think you're going to get a fast meal, this is meant as an experience and, as such, they do leave you alone for extended periods of time but our server was always just a quick look away if we needed something.

Recommendations: I had The Irish Maid for a cocktail and it was incredible (and, honestly, it takes some doing to make a cocktail that really stands out. The veal sweetbreads would have been up there for best thing I'd ever eaten IF I didn't then have the Bananas Foster for dessert. That was....just wow. Get it and enjoy. Artichoke hors d'oeuvres were also quite delicious.

So go and enjoy an incredible meal.

We have had the pleasure of eating there several times. My husband & I agree that this was probably our best meal there. We ordered a grilled salmon dish that was a special that evening & it was simply outstanding. Our daughter was with us & ordered the filet mignon and she gave it 10 out of 10!
Our server Michael was also excellent! Our only small complaint was not being informed of the price on the special. It was our oversight also for not asking! Overall, just a great night looking out over the Vermilion river & enjoying fantastic food!

The table we sat at on the balcony was beautiful. We could watch all the boats come in and out. If interested in wine be prepared to pay a lot more for it. The half bottle cheapest, was 60.00. And full went up to 500.00.
We didn’t order any appetizers as they had no gluten free options. We were told that the chef had sea bass and snapper fish this evening that sounded delicious. So we ordered that. We both had Martini’s that were very good.
Our main entrees of fish came out at an average size piece with veggies. We enjoyed it but were disappointed when the bill came and we were charged 52.00 a piece for a piece of fish. For each one of us. There are just as nice restaurants in the area that have the same offerings and don’t gouge the customer. I have no problem in paying a fair price for dinner that is higher grade but, this was definitely not a great value or fair price for a piece of fish.

Excellent food. Our waitress couldn't have been more considerate. We were the last to leave on a midweek evening and were never hurried. Wine list could use additional quality but less expensive bottles.

This restaurant is a MUST for very special Occasions! Service is impeccable and the food is beyond description in variety, taste, and presentation! Expensive but a dining experience unparalleled. The water is so beautiful and the building quite historic. We had a phenomenal time!

This is an authentic effort to deliver French food and service. I respect that. Although friendly and well meaning service is below par for this restaurant. Little things not done all add up. If I’m willing to spend $400 for a dinner for 2 I’m expecting more assertive service. Although I received a reasonable wine recommendation i found the iPad wine list a task. Printed wine menus please. Again I would recommend for the ambiance and food quality. Professionalise the service and it could get a Michelin star.

The sea bass was ordered by my wife and myself. While delicious and fresh, it really wasn't a standout dish. The softshell crab was just o.k. Onion soup was fantastic. The Ferrari Carano Tresor was the best. We love the restaurant, but the past couple times, the food wasn't what we had come to expect. They did a private affair for my wife's retirement and that was the best night of friends, food and fun we have had in a long time. Absolutely a most memorable dining experience.

Our waiter Sean was attentive, helpful and friendly. The cuisine did not wow but was good ; the location/ambiance was also meh. L’Albatose on the east side was hands down a better dining experience across the board. My dining partner who has had many fine dining experiences concurred.

Extremely accommodating and ready to serve. Attention to details and watchful eye of the servers on our party's needs. Food was excellent and properly prepared. Strong wine list and knowledgeable server to help in correct choices of entrees and of course the wine. A well orchestrated birthday dinner ! Thank you from Akron!

This was our first time to Chez Francois and it was an incredible evening starting with the beautiful ambience, friendly and professional service and of course the absolutely amazing menu! We had the Prixe-Fixe dinner and every course was fantastic! The wine list was vast and high end so there was a lot to choose from....which complimented the menu even more! We are anxious to go back for the Bastille Day Celebration! I highly, highly recommend!

Charming setting, top notch service and food. Eating outside is recommended as you get views of the river, lovely homes and Lake Erie. Feels worlds away. The staff is gracious and expert. The food is absolutely wonderful: lobster bisque with large chunks of claw meat and a puff pastry topper. French onion soup with rich broth and gooey cheese. A delicious amuse bouche that evening of gazpacho. We enjoyed the lobster with filet mignon - a generous portion - that was expertly prepared. Creme moullee and fragrant coffee to end a scrumptious meal and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.

We went to chez François for our 12th wedding anniversary. We have tried many French restaurants in NE Ohio and this was the best overall. The only menu item that wasn't the best was the French 9nion soup (L'Albatrose wins the best onion soup prize). Everything else (including entrees, desserts, and ambiance) Was the best we've had.

Staff was couteous, polite, and very attentive.

Beautiful view of the water and boats in the outdoor dining space. Service was very good. I was extremely disappointed in my meal. I ordered lobster ravioli which was a dinner special. It was floating in a pool of butter. The pasta could have been thinner. There were slices of Parmesan cheese with mashed potatoes. Not a refined dish. All of their entrees have way too many ingredients. They claim to be a French restaurant but this is not French cooking.

My husband and I have celebrated our birthday(same day) here for 30yrs! Always an awesome meal. I say every year just going to get several orders of the artichokes and a salad, but when the waiter names off some of the specials I can't resist. With any luck we will celebrate our next 30 bdays here.
